The essay presents an outline of the arguments for relativistic theses. Theses: about the theoretical incommensurability and undetermined translation interpreted in ethnic languages (Polish and Swahili). I justify the statement that the conceptual framework of individual languages – by analogy – to the analysed examples are mutually and fundamentally untranslatable. Untranslatable, at least concerning the fundamentally different cultural traditions characterizing the civilization of writing versus oral culture. I also indirectly justify the legitimacy of questioning the linear concept of development based (...) on the involuntary acceptance in the humanities and social sciences of Euclidean geometry. Consequently, the article is part of a series of publications in which I argue for the need to reconstruct fundamental epistemological categories. (shrink)

O atual trabalho se debruça sobre o instituto do refúgio por um prisma jusfilosófico, significa a construção dos ditames jurídicos constituídos por uma via filosófica que permite uma pluralidade de oportunidade para concepção de possíveis soluções a partir de uma metodologia explicativa e do método de pesquisa bibliográfica. Os objetivos da pesquisas são: perscrutar a relação entre justiça e direito, compreender o conceito do refúgio jurídico, estudar o fenômeno do refúgio pelos conceitos de alteridade e hospitalidade do filósofo Derrida, analisar (...) se os refugiados são acolhidos a partir de uma ótica da hospitalidade. Na temelju analize strukture i slijeda postupka analogije, autor upućuje kritiku tezi o djelomičnoj svodljivosti, tj. tezi prema kojoj se analogija, izuzev onoga njezinog koraka koji predstavlja strogu analogiju, može svesti na vaganje. U radu se stoga prvo iznose neki problemi navedene teze, poput nenužnosti svodljivosti ili činjenice da se pod krinkom vaganja provodi prava analogija. Središnja je teza rada tvrdnja da analogiju nije moguće uspješno svesti na oblik vaganja.

THE COMMON AS A NON-CAPITALIST FORM OF WEALTH. ANTONIO NEGRI’S THESIS ON THE CRISIS OF THE LAW OF VALUE AND ITS CONSEQUENCES The core aspect of Antonio Negri’s political philosophy and the reading of “Marx beyond Marx”, that is the thesis on the crisis of law of value, was analyzed here in details. Thesis that Negri’s altermodern humanism, at least since the end of the 1960’s, is developing in the strict interrelationship with the thesis on the crisis of law of (...) value was proposed. Together with an ontological assumption that we are living in the era of real subsumption of society under capital it creates the conceptual matrix of the project of the common. The main parts of this text explored the following problems: a) the context of the formulation of the thesis on the crisis of law of value; b) the meaning of the law of value in the Marx’s theory; c) Marxist debate on the status of law of value in socialism with reference to its usefulness for the projects of the alternative to capitalism; d) core aspects of the thesis; e) its consequences for the new theories of exploitation, antagonism and value for the present state of the development of capitalism. The aim of the text is to show the political meaning of the thesis of on the crisis of the law of value. (shrink)

Eden glavnih grehov, pripisanih tradicionalni filozofski estetiki, je normativizem, ki naj bi predstavljal grožnjo umetniški svobodi. Če naj bo normativizem eden glavnih grehov tradicionalne estetike, potem ni nič čudnega, da naj bi po mnenju nekaterih predstavnikov analitične estetike odrešitev našli v begu v čisti deskriptivizem. Ta naj bi bil ne le osvobojen vseh normativističnih teženj, pač pa tudi vsakršnega vrednotenja. Kot rezultat tega smo dobili več klasifikatoričnih ter aksiološko nevtralnih definicij umetnosti. Narejeni so bili poskusi ustvariti nekatere čisto deskriptivne koncepcije (...) umetnosti, ki naj bi po mnenju njihovih avtorjev nudile vsestranske značilnosti umetniške praxis in ki istočasno ne bi vsebovale nobenih vrednostnih sestavin ter nobenega normativizma. Institucionalna teorija umetnosti Georga Dickieja je klasičen primer tega pristopa. Vendar pa niti institucionalna teorija umetnosti niti katerikoli drugi poskusi ustvariti čisto deskriptivne in klasifikatorične teorije umetnosti niso izpolnili pričakovanj in niso postali izčrpne ter uspešne teorije umetnosti. Zdi se, da to ni bilo naključno ter da ni moglo biti drugače. Morali bi pričakovati, daje, kot je poudaril Theodor Adorno, »zamisel o vrednostno nevtralni estetiki nesmisel«. Mislim, daje obča teza, po kateri ima estetika vedno neke normativne temelje, preveč radikalna in premočna. Osebno bi raje govoril o normativnih vidikih estetike. Kot lahko vidimo, stopnja normativnosti različnih teorij ni vedno enaka. Vendar pa sam ne dvomim, da je estetika aksiološka disciplina ter da nobena čisto deskriptivna teorija ne more ponuditi vseobsežne označbe umetnosti. (shrink)

U članku je riječ o bitnim obilježjima i modelu demokratskoga odgoja u Deweyevu djelu. Polazno je pitanje: što za suvremenu deliberativnu demokraciju znači Deweyev koncept odgoja i obrazovanja. Može li se njegov etički ideal čovječnosti primijeniti kao filozofski temelj za vrednovanje i opravdanje demokratske prakse? Je li Dewey potkopao i razorio temelje liberalizma, kako je tvrdio Richard Rorty? Ili njegova obnova filozofije zapravo tek vraća u život liberalizam i otvara nove putove demokraciji? Najnoviji val recepcije Deweyeve filozofije sve dubljim intenzitetom (...) pokazuje zacijelo da iz njezina misaonoga naslijeđa plodonosnim sudarima s idejama i tendencijama suvremenoga doba izlazi na vidjelo nešto što ujedno prekoračuje okvir suvremenosti i upućuje na budućnost. U aktualnoj renesansi pragmatizma posebice je znakovito primijetiti kako Deweyeva vrhunski profinjena kritika modernoga »individualizma« i zagovor jačanja ćudorednih i participativno demokratskih poveznica u lokalnim zajednicama pronalazi odjeka u komunitarističkim argumentacijskim diskursima. Zaključna je teza da Dewey isticanjem supstancijalne povezanosti »communicatio–community–common« ne ruši temelje liberalizma i demokracije nego ih štoviše obogaćuje, učvršćuje i podiže na višu razinu. Źródeł koncepcji genocentrycznej należy dopatrywać się w dynamicznym rozwoju XIX- i XX-wiecznej genetyki – zwłaszcza współczesnej syntezy ewolucyjnej oraz genetyki molekularnej. Za ideą tą stoi teza, iż w naukach biologicznych wyjaśnienia odwołujące się do czynników genetycznych są uprzywilejowane; przy tym istotnym założeniem idei genocentrycznej w ramach genetyki molekularnej jest to, że geny oraz kod genetyczny pełnią szczególną rolę w determinowaniu rozwoju organizmu. Chociaż stanowisko genocentryczne jest jednym z fundamentów współczesnej teorii ewolucji, to przez długi czas nie podejmowano na tym (...) gruncie problematyki biologii rozwoju. W związku z tym w ostatnich latach można dostrzec zwrot w stronę nurtu alternatywnego, wykazującego istotność uwzględnienia czynników poza-genetycznych w wyjaśnianiu zjawisk i procesów biologiczno-rozwojowych. Najistotniejsze w tym kontekście są argumenty i idee stojące za odrzuceniem specjalnej roli genów, zwłaszcza na gruncie ewolucyjnej biologii rozwoju; kontekst evo-devo wydaje się interesujący ze względu na ambicję integracji biologii rozwojowej i biologii ewolucyjnej. Članek je posvečen vprašanju, katere vire je pri pisanju svoje Cerkvene zgodovine oziroma dodatka k prevodu Evzebijevega istoimenskega dela uporabljal Rufin iz Akvileje. Iz samega besedila izhaja, da je upora­bljal tako ustne kot pisne vire, pri čemer Rufin prve večkrat navaja, drugih pa skorajda ne. Kljub temu je danes moč zanesljivo reči, da se je pri pisanju opiral na številne tako latinske kot grške vire. Rufinov ugled na področju (cerkvene) zgodovine je v zadnjem stoletju precej omajala teza, da je (...) za večji del svojega dodatka enostavno prevedel danes izgubljeno cerkveno zgodovino Gelazija iz Cezareje. Ker naj bi bilo vsebino slednje moč rekonstruirati iz kasnejših grških virov, je Rufinov dodatek v strokovnih krogih deležen manj pozornosti, kot si kljub svojim pomanjkljivostim zasluži. Članek se tako osredotoča predvsem na dva vidika Rufinovih pisnih virov — na vprašanje njegove odvisnosti od Gelazija in na vprašanje, za katere pisne vire dejansko lahko rečemo, da jih je uporabljal. Współczesna kosmologia wskazuje na pewne przejawy jedności Wszechświata, np. uniwersalność praw przyrody, globalną czasoprzestrzeń, możliwość wyróżnienia uniwersalnego czasu i jednej, wspólnej historii, czy też ścisłe zależności między parametrami kosmologicznymi i stałymi fizycznymi a faktem istnienia życia. Wykorzystanie metody abstrakcji i wnioskowania analogicznego w analizie własności Wszechświata pozwalają, bez naruszania zasady autonomiczności nauki i filozofii, zasadnie argumentować za tezą o jego nomologicznej jedności. Z drugiej strony w kosmologii przyjmuje się założenia związane z określeniem przedmiotu jej badań oraz warunkujące jej uprawianie. Ich (...) podstawą jest przekonanie o stałym, niezależnym od czasu i miejsca, sposobie funkcjonowania przyrody. Pozwala to na formułowanie opisujących ją niezmiennych czasoprzestrzennie praw i ekstrapolowanie ich na cały Wszechświat. Uzasadnieniem takiej praktyki badawczej jest zgodność konstruowanych modeli kosmologicznych z obserwacją, efektywność wyjaśniania problemów badawczych, spójność z innymi działami wiedzy przyrodniczej oraz sukcesy programów unifikacyjnych i badań interdyscyplinarnych. Two centuries after they were published, Kant's ethical writings are as much admired and imitated as they have ever been, yet serious and long-standing accusations of internal incoherence remain unresolved. Onora O'Neill traces the alleged incoherences to attempts to assimilate Kant's ethical writings to modern conceptions of rationality, action and rights. When the temptation to assimilate is resisted, a strikingly different and more cohesive account of reason and morality emerges. Kant offers a "constructivist" vindication of reason and a moral vision (...) in which obligations are prior to rights and in which justice and virtue are linked. O'Neill begins by reconsidering Kant's conceptions of philosophical method, reason, freedom, autonomy and action. She then moves on to the more familiar terrain of interpretation of the Categorical Imperative, while in the last section she emphasizes differences between Kant's ethics and recent "Kantian" ethics, including the work of John Rawls and other contemporary liberal political philosophers. The University of Perugia's Archivio storico preserves a sixteenth-century manuscript of the imprese of the Accademia degli Insensati, an institution which is well-known for its important members and affiliates in the ecclesiastical and poetic circles of Perugia and Rome. Largely unpublished, the manuscript collects forty-three imprese of academicians, drawn by different artists and miniaturists, including that of the painter and theorist Federico Zuccari. In later life Zuccari proudly made use of his Insensato nickname of Il Sonnacchioso, but here his impresa (...) is unexpectedly given as Il Desioso. This article argues that the Il Desioso impresa represents Zuccari's application to join the Accademia. Drawn by the artist himself, featuring his device of the sugarloaf and accompanied by a prose description in his own hand, the impresa can be dated by comparisons with other works made around the time of Zuccari's move from Florence to Rome. It reflects a number of the theoretical ideas from this period of his life, concerning the role of Academies, the education of the artist, and classical culture. (shrink)

The strongest version of the principle of the Identity of Indiscernibles states that of necessity, there are no distinct things with all their universals in common (where such putative haecceities as being Aristotle do not count as universals: I use 'universal' rather than 'property' here and in what follows for the simple reason that 'universal' is the term of art that most safely excludes haecceities from its instances). It is commonly supposed that Max Black's famous paper 'The identity of indiscernibles' (...) (2) refutes this thesis. (Armstong's [1], chapter 9 is representative here.) Black argues ([2], p. 156) that it is perfectly possible that there be a world consisting solely of two indiscernible spheres at some distance to each other and that this world constitutes a counterexample to the principle above. The strongest version of the bundle theory of substance claims that of necessity, the substances that make up the world are bundles of universals.1 It is commonly supposed that a consequence of Black's defeat of the principle of the Identity of Indiscernibles is that this bundle theory of substance is mistaken. (Again, Armstong's [1] is representative.) I shall argue that Black's thought experiment does not defeat the bundle theory and that, as a result, the bundle theory can be used to salvage the principle of the Identity of Indiscernibles. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na pewne, z rzadka jedynie podnoszone aspekty pojęcia dobra. Zadanie takie poprzedzić należy pewnymi wstępnymi założeniami, ponieważ pojęcie to, będąc kluczowym terminem filozofii moralnej od początku jej historii, obrosło wieloma konotacjami i stało się częścią wielu, często wzajemnie sprzecznych, koncepcji moralnych. Należy zatem zaznaczyć, że w opracowaniu poniższym chodzić zatem będzie o pojęcie dobra rozumiane na sposób arystotelesowski, a rozważania koncentrować się będą w głównej części na rozstrzygnięciach normatywnych wysuwanych w obrębie współczesnego anglosaskiego neoarystotelizmu. Zasadniczą tezą mojej pracy jest, że tak ujmowane, pojęcie to charakteryzuje się dwiema cechami, czy też może należałoby raczej powiedzieć, że jego normatywność organizuje się według dwóch wektorów wyznaczających sposób orientacji bardziej szczegółowych normatywów: natury jako źródła idei dobra, oraz pewnej formy emancypacji wynikającej z jej zastosowania. Conventional wisdom suggests that the Platonist philosophers of Late Antiquity, from Plotinus (third century) to the sixth-century schools in Athens and Alexandria, neglected the political dimension of their Platonic heritage in their concentration on an otherworldly life. Dominic O'Meara presents a revelatory reappraisal of these thinkers, arguing that their otherworldliness involved rather than excluded political ideas, and he reconstructs for the first time a coherent political philosophy of Late Platonism.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest ukazanie realizmu strukturalnego jako stanowiska realistycznego w dyskusji, prowadzonej wokół realizmu naukowego – jego wybranych zalet i słabości. Realizm strukturalny jest odpowiedzią na wyzwanie, jakie realizmowi naukowemu stawiają historyczne fakty zmiany teorii w nauce. Nawiązuje on do semantycznego ujęcia teorii naukowych i wypracowanego w tym podejściu aparatu pojęciowego. Zgodnie z realizmem strukturalnym to, co zostaje zachowane z dojrzałych teorii naukowych po zmianie teorii, to ich sformułowania matematyczne, będące abstrakcyjnymi modelami teorii. Są one aproksymacyjnie prawdziwe, gdyż reprezentują realne (...) struktury rzeczywistości w sposób wolny od ontologicznej interpretacji, narzuconej przez język teorii. Realizm strukturalny i nawiązujący do niego semirealizm, który rozszerza niezmienniczość dojrzałych teorii na własności detekcyjne obiektów fizycznych, bronią tezy realizmu naukowego w kwestii aproksymacyjnej prawdziwości teorii naukowych, interpretując realistycznie zmiany teorii naukowych. Pozostawiają jednak na boku istotny dla realizmu problem reprezentowania rzeczywistości w teoriach naukowych. Oba wspomniane stanowiska, nawiązując do modelowego ujęcia teorii naukowych, przyjmują, że reprezentacja jest izomorfizmem struktur matematycznego modelu teorii i rzeczywistości. Takie rozumienie reprezentacji jest zbyt wąskie, nie uwzględnia, że struktura zjawisk nie jest jednoznacznie określona. Strukturę tę dla teorii zastępuje matematyczny model danych, który odzwierciedla zjawiska przedstawione jako związki własności określonych przez teorię. Realistyczna interpretacja modelu danych stanowi dla realizmu strukturalnego konieczne uzupełnienie, aby spełniał on naczelną tezę realizmu, głoszącą, że nauka poznaje świat taki, jaki jest niezależnie od teorii. Stanowi to podstawę, aby broniona w realizmie strukturalnym aproksymacyjna prawdziwość teorii naukowych miała ugruntowane uzasadnienie. Wskazanie potrzeby rozszerzenia realizmu strukturalnego i semirealizmu o odpowiednią dla nich koncepcję reprezentacji jest tezą tej pracy. W artykule zostały przedstawione podstawowe elementy współczesnej dyskusji wokół realizmu naukowego oraz stanowiska realizmu strukturalnego i semirealizmu jako uzgodnienie realizmu naukowego z faktem radykalnej zmiany teorii. Następnie zostały ukazane konsekwencje, jakie dla realizmu strukturalnego wynikają z semantycznego (modelowego) ujęcia teorii naukowych i związanego z tym pojęcia reprezentacji jako izomorfizmu struktur. Ostatni fragment został poświęcony wskazaniu, że aby spełnić postulaty realizmu naukowego zarówno realizm strukturalny, jak i semirealizm powinny być uzupełnione o interpretację reprezentacji rzeczywistości w modelu danych w duchu realizmu naukowego. -------------- Zgłoszono: 17/09/2020. This collection of eighteen readings provides a basic text for undergraduates taking sociology of science courses. A general survey of articles published between 1961 and 1981, the book is also a useful overview for students taking courses in social and political studies of science; science, technology, and society; and "social issues" components of courses in the environmental sciences, geography, philosophy, and history of science. The editors have organized the book around "the relationship between the subculture of science and the wider (...) culture which surrounds it. Looked at from this perpective, science is primarily a source of knowledge and competence.... Thus to stress its interaction with its context not only highlights these aspects of science which most people find of overriding pragmatic interest, but also raises important basic issues concerning credibility, the distribution of authority in society, and the nature of the interaction between different forms of culture." This volume is a collection of 16 essays, old and new, relating history and exegesis in the writings of Bede and Adomnán, and in the lives of Thomas Becket. The first part consists of seven studies of Bede's writings, notably his biblical commentaries and his Ecclesiastical History. Two of the essays are published here for the first time. The five studies in the second part, devoted to Adomnán, discuss his life of Saint Columba (the Vita Columbae) and his guide to (...) the Holy Places (De locis sanctis). One essay ('The Bible as Map'), published posthumously, compares his presentation of a major theme, the earthly and heavenly Jerusalem, with the approach adopted by Bede. The third section consists of two essays on the lives of Thomas Becket that were composed shortly after his death. They examine, in the context of patristic exegesis, the biblical images invoked in the texts in order to show how the saint's biographers understood the complex relationship between hagiography and history. With the exception of the Jarrow Lecture on Bede and the essays on Becket, the studies in both parts were published originally in edited books, some of them now hard to come by. (shrink)
