Changes and Adaptations: How University Students Self-Regulate Their Online Learning During the COVID-19 Pandemic.Felicitas Biwer, Wisnu Wiradhany, Mirjam Oude Egbrink, Harm Hospers, Stella Wasenitz, Walter Jansen & Anique de Bruin - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, universities had to shift from face-to-face to emergency remote education. Students were forced to study online, with limited access to facilities and less contact with peers and teachers, while at the same time being exposed to more autonomy. This study examined how students adapted to emergency remote learning, specifically focusing on students’ resource-management strategies using an individual differences approach. One thousand eight hundred university students completed a questionnaire on their resource-management strategies and indicators of successful adaptation (...)

Immunobiology of neural transplants and functional incorporation of grafted dopamine neurons.Jeffrey B. Blount, Takeshi Kondoh, Lisa L. Pundt, John Conrad, Elizabeth M. Jansen & Walter C. Low - 1995 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 18 (1):48-49.
In contrast to the views put forth by Stein & Glasier, we support the use of inbred strains of rodents in studies of the immunobiology of neural transplants. Inbred strains demonstrate homology of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC). Virtually all experimental work in transplantation immunology is performed using inbred strains, yet very few published studies of immune rejection in intracerebral grafts have used inbred animals.

Captured by Digitization.Bart Jansen & Agnes Schreiner - 2023 - International Journal for the Semiotics of Law - Revue Internationale de Sémiotique Juridique 36 (5):2179-2191.
While digitization claims to provide efficiency, accessibility, expansion, speediness, and profit accumulation, it is actually colonizing every human activity. It has even become a purpose in itself. In this essay we focus on the digitization of legal practices and contents. We describe what digitization encompasses, how digitalization processes work, and to what extent they are able to replace juristic processes and produce legal outcomes. We are inspired by Walter Benjamin’s essay on the influence of mechanical reproduction of the works (...)

Pathological complexity and the evolution of sex differences.Walter Veit & Heather Browning - 2022 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 45:e149.
Benenson et al. provide a compelling case for treating greater investment into self-protection among females as an adaptive strategy. Here, we wish to expand their proposed adaptive explanation by placing it squarely in modern state-based and behavioural life-history theory, drawing on Veit'spathological complexityframework. This allows us to make sense of alternative “lifestyle” strategies, rather than pathologizing them.

Le concept de monde chez Heidegger.Walter Biemel - 1950 - Louvain,: E. Nauwelaerts.

Determinables, Determinates, And Causal Relevance.Sven Walter - 2007 - Canadian Journal of Philosophy 37 (2):217-243.
Mental causation, our mind's ability to causally affect the course of the world, is part and parcel of our ‘manifest image’ of the world. That there is mental causation is denied by virtually no one. How there can be such a thing as mental causation, however, is far from obvious. In recent years, discussions about the problem of mental causation have focused on Jaegwon Kim's so-called Causal Exclusion Argument, according to which mental events are ‘screened off’ or ‘preempted’ by physical (...)

    Psychopathy and responsibility.Walter Glannon - 1997 - Journal of Applied Philosophy 14 (3):263–275.
Some philosophers have argued that the psychopath serves as the ultimate test of the limits of moral responsibility. They hold that the psychopath lacks a deep knowledge of right and wrong, and that Kant’s ethics arguably offers the most plausible account of this moral knowledge. On this view, the psychopath’s lack of moral understanding is due to a cognitive failure involving practical reason. I argue that the deep knowledge of right and wrong consists of emotional and volitional components in addition (...)
