This is a collection of the most important writings of Oxford philosopher H.H. Price on the topics of psychical research and survival of death, collected from a wide variety of sources unavailable to most interested readers. Included are discussions of telepathy, clairvoyance, telekinesis, precognition, hauntings and apparitions, the impact of psychical research on western philosophy and science, and what afterlife is probably like. Few twentieth century English-speaking philosophers have written much on these topics. Of those who did so and (...) whose writings have not been collected and published in a single source, H.H. Henry Habberley Price, who published as H. H. Price, was born in 1899. From 1935 to 1959 he was Wykeham Professor of Logic at Oxford University. Price was a major figure in his lifetime well-known especially for the “clarity and elegance of style”, which, according to Martha Kneale (1996: xix), make his works readable in spite of changing fashions in philosophy. Many people’s acquaintance nowadays with Price’s philosophical work derives from his being a target (...) in Austin’s (1962) famous attack on the sense-datum theory. This restricted acquaintance with his output is one reason that Price has been ignored in recent philosophy. -/- Mainstream philosophy neglected him after the Second World War, perhaps partly because, when articulating his ideas, he mainly engaged with philosophers of the past, such as Locke and Hume. His thought was, however, valued by fellow philosophers such as Broad, Moore, Ayer, and generations of his students at Oxford, including Sellars, Armstrong, and Anscombe. -/- Although Price is seen mainly as a philosopher of perception, only two of his six books are about perception and he had a major influence, also publishing many articles, on a variety of topics, including some we cannot focus on here, e.g., our evidence of other minds (1938; 1930b: 195) and psychical research (1940c; 1953b; 1972; 1995; an interest he claims to share with Neo-Platonists [1968a: 447]). We can only provide a sketch of his rich contributions. After briefly sketching his life (§1), we discuss his philosophy’s general features (§2), contributions to the studies of perception (§3), properties (§5.1), recognition (§5), belief (§6), religious belief (§6.8), his revival and serious study of Hume (§4), and some remarkable anticipations (§7). Le christianisme a pu être défini comme la religion de l'histoire parce qu'il repose sur une Alliance scellée et vécue à travers des événements passés, sans cesse réactualisés dans le présent. Cependant, le surgissement de l'histoire comme discipline a paradoxalement abouti à une « déshistoricisation » de la foi. Les christologies élaborées en confrontation à la « deuxième quête » tentèrent de revenir à la conception historique de l'existence chrétienne, mais au prix d'une théorie de la « double vérité » (...) qui tend à éluder la question de la vérité posée par le témoignage que le Nouveau Testament rend à Jésus-Christ. Pour dépasser cette difficulté, il importe de réévaluer ce qu'il en est de la scientificité des disciplines de l'histoire afin de renouer avec la conception « polémique » d'une vérité en procès qui s'atteste dans l'événement Jésus-Christ. Sur cette ligne, le systématicien reçoit la « vieille » question exégétique du Jésus historique, non comme une question de méthode, mais comme la question de la décision à laquelle tout le Nouveau Testament appelle : celle de l'identité de Jésus-Christ. Ou bien est-il le Seigneur Glorifié dont l'Ange affirme « Il est ressuscité, il n'est pas ici ».It was possible to define Christianity as a religion of history because it was based on a sealed Covenant and lived through past events, constantly re-actualized in the present. The rise of history as a discipline has, nevertheless, paradoxically ended up in a « de-historiazation » of the faith. The Christologies elaborated in confronting the « second quest » try to return to the historical conception of Christian existence, but at the price of a theory of « double truth », which tends to evade the question of the truth laid down by the testimony that the New Testament gives to Jesus Christ. To go beyond this difficulty, it is important to reevaluate one's position as regards the scientificity of the disciplines of history in order to take up again the conception « polemic » of a truth in process that is attested in the event of Jesus Christ. Along these lines, the systematician receives the « old » exegetical question of the historical Jesus, not as a question of method, but as a question of the decision to which the whole New Testament calls - that of the identity of Jesus Christ. Is he that figure that has forever disappeared and of which the historian attempts to reconstitute the past in a sort of exhumation that will never give him back the life that he gave up ? or rather is he the Glorified Lord of whom the Angel affirmed : « He is risen, he is not here ». Il apparaît qu’en France aujourd’hui, le modèle néoclassique de la concurrence inspire l’ essentiel de la réglementation de la concurrence. Or la théorie économique moderne, telle qu’elle est inspirée par Coase et Hayek notamment, tend à renverser les certitudes du modèle néoclassique et à admettre que la discrimination commerciale peut avoir un effet bénéfique sur l’efficacité économique. La distribution sélective prend tout son sens dans un contexte d’incertitude et d’ information imparfaite. C’est la confrontation de ces deux philosophies — celle (...) qui inspire le législateur français, le législateur allemand ou la doctrine communautaire européenne, et celle plus optimiste à l’égard des pratiques discriminatoires — qui est opérée dans cet article. Ainsi, la pratique des prix imposés, la franchise, la concession et la protection territoriale sont analysées dans le cadre de cette confrontation. De même, une critique de la doctrine communautaire est exposée. L’évolution du droit des contrats et du droit de la concurrence fait aussi l’objet d’une analyse mettant face à face les deux doctrines. C’est bien la vision du marché en tant que processus qui est au centre de cette analyse.The neoclassical model of competition seems to sustain today in France the main regulations about competition. However, modern economic theory, as initiated by Coase and Hayek notably, calls into question the certainties brought about by the neoclassical model and acknowledges the beneficial effects of commercial efficiency. Contractual discrimination takes its meaning in an open-ended world. The contrast between these two views — the one which inspires the French legislator, the German legislator, or the European Community doctrine, and the more optimistic one with respect to discriminatory practices — is put forward in this paper. Thus, imposed prices, franchising, concession and territorial protection are pratices discussed within this contrast. Moreover, a critique of the European Community doctrine is developed. The evolution of contract law and antitrust law is also examined by contrasting the two views. It is indeed the thesis of the market as a process which is underlined in the present analysis. Enhancing research and development and ensuring equitable pricing and access to cutting-edge treatments are both vital to a biopharmaceutical innovation system that works in the public interest. However, despite delivering numerous therapeutic advances, the existing system suffers from major problems: a lack of directionality to meet key needs, inefficient collaboration, high prices that fail to reflect the public contribution, and an overly-financialized business model.

In this panoramic survey Guy Lemarchand undertakes to outline the history of the feudal system which persisted across the European continent from the sixteenth until the second half of the nineteenth century. In the crisis of the seventeenth century, seigneurial reaction backed by the absolutist state enabled this feudal mode to reconsolidate and extend itself eastward. The eighteenth century represented the system’s apogee based on high food prices, increased rents and state support. Feudalism’s dissolution beginning with the French Revolution and (...) continuing until the emancipation of the Russian serfs came about as a result of revolution from below and from above under the increasing influence of capitalism and liberalism. Offering an enormous comparative perspective on this long-lived mode of production, Lemarchand’s work fails to articulate theoretically the relationship between this enduring mode and the concurrent rise of capitalism. ABSTRACTSchumpeter’s theory of socialism pivots on his response to Ludwig von Mises’s claim that rational economic calculation is “impossible” in a socialist economy. Mises held that because socialism eliminates market prices for the means of production, it is impossible under socialism to know the relative scarcities of productive inputs, and thus to determine rationally which of any number of technologically feasible production projects to pursue. Schumpeter appears to assume away Mises’s epistemic concerns about socialism by contending that it is theoretically (...) possible to determine which goods should be produced in a socialist economy if all the relevant data are known—which begs the question Mises had asked. Did Schumpeter really commit such an elementary error of interpretation? Or was the appearance of doing so part of his attempt to communicate to the reader of Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy a host of reservations about the likely consequences of socialism in practice, even as he ostentatiously praised its feasibility in principle? Questo saggio, risultato del lavoro seminariale svolto presso la Fondazione Centro Studi Campostrini, avanza una proposta teoricasulla base di un’ipotesi. L’ipotesi è che quando usiamo il vocabolariodella credenza diciamo qualcosa di specifico e irriducibile adaltre nozioni. Alla ricerca del nucleo di irriducibilità e specificitàdella credenza Giuseppe Di Salvatore scarta tutte quelle forme dicredenza che dipendono in maniera più o meno diretta da unaconsiderazione in termini di conoscenza o da un’implicazione dellaverità. Se alcuni tipi di giustificazione della credenza possono essereutili a (...) individuarne l’irriducibilità, solo le credenze primitive, unacomplessa nozione di “credenza soggettiva” e un originale modellofiduciario della credenza fungono da buoni candidati per difenderela specificità della credenza. Dopo la discussione di alcune tesi diLudwig Wittgenstein e il ricorso a fonti eterogenee, da William Jamesa Henry Habberley Price fino a Niklas Luhmann, l’autore proponela nozione originale di “credenza progressiva” come il migliorcandidato che confermi l’ipotesi di partenza. In essa una precisaidea di rischio e la fiducia, al cui dibattito è dedicata un’ampiaattenzione, contribuiscono a delineare la credenza progressivainsieme ad alcuni suoi aspetti soggettivi, così profilandola comeuna postura sperimentale. Il saggio si completa con una riflessionesulla peculiarità della questione filosofica della credenza religiosa,la quale viene approcciata nella sua preliminare generalità, quindiconfrontata con la credenza progressiva.
