Pour Hegel, elles résultent toutes d’un même effort, celui du sujet spirituel qui tend à s’incarner dans le monde. Selon lui, la normativité ne répond ni à un commandement transcendant, ni à un “ ordre des choses ” toujours déjà fixé, mais au processus d’auto-développement de la subjectivité s’investissant dans le réel extérieur pour concrétiser sa liberté. Toutefois, parce que le monde (...) reste irrémédiablement étranger à l’esprit, celui-ci n’en prend possession que de manière incomplète et précaire. Il se rapporte alors à lui sur le mode du “ devoir-être ”, c’est-à-dire d’obligations pouvant être transgressées et de droits pouvant être contestés. La question de la légitimation de la philosophie est l'un des fils conducteurs de l'idéalisme allemand. Dans la première génération des successeurs de Kant en effet, certains ont pour ambition explicite de reprendre ses résultats, mais d'une manière suffisamment justifiée pour répondre aux objections sceptiques. D'autres, en revanche, décident de s'installer dans le renoncement à la fondation systématique, accusant la raison discursive d'être incapable de saisir la vie et la liberté. Quels sont, chez les auteurs de l'idéalisme allemand, les arguments (...) qui plaident en faveur d'un fondement du discours philosophique? Un tel principe est-il théorique ou pratique, inaugural ou terminal, intuitif ou discursif, tel qu'il adopte la forme d'une proposition singulière ou tel qu'il se confond avec le tout du discours? En somme, l'enjeu est d'examiner, sous un point de vue nouveau, le thème de la raison dans l'idéalisme allemand. La question est ici abordée dans une perspective historique autant que systématique. La variété et la richesse des études témoignent de la vitalité des recherches actuelles sur l'idéalisme allemand. (shrink)

L’article examine la lecture, par Hegel, de la critique kantienne de la métaphysique de l’âme et la conception hégélienne de l’âme comme « esprit-nature ». La question est de savoir ce que Hegel retient de la critique kantienne et en quoi, cependant, elle lui semble méthodologiquement inappropriée. Plus fondamentalement, il s’agit de saisir en quel sens les prédicats reconnus à l’âme dans la métaphysique dogmatique se trouvent « relevés » dans la conception hégélienne de l’esprit.

On considère ici l’injustice telle qu’elle est examinée dans la section du « droit abstrait » des Principes de la philosophie du droit de Hegel, où elle prend le sens d’une mise en cause indue d’un titre de propriété. Il apparaît que l’injustice constitue, pour Hegel, le lieu d’affirmation du bon droit, dans la mesure où celui-ci n’est pas autre chose qu’un principe de rectification. Il montre la logique des critiques adressées à Kant et la manière dont Schlegel défend la démocratie à l’encontre de son illustre interlocuteur. Schlegel, dans l’« Essai », entend montrer la nécessité, transcendantalement fondée, d’une communauté politique à laquelle chacun participe à part entière. Puis il examine les différentes formulations des preuves de l’existence de Dieu telles qu’elles sont reprises par Hegel, et notamment celles de la preuve ontologique. L’hypothèse est la suivante : pour Hegel, le Dieu de la religion se fait exister processuellement à l’encontre de ses formes d’existence déficientes. Par là cependant, il se manifeste lui-même, rendant le discours des (...) preuves superflu. Les trois versions de la preuve ontologique – « anselmienne », « kantienne » et « hégélienne » – présentent les trois modes de relation de Dieu comme sujet avec l’objectivité : une unité présupposée, puis niée, et enfin établie comme le résultat d’un processus. Les preuves de l’existence de Dieu, qui restent « représentatives », n’ont pas pour fin d’établir qu’il y a un Dieu en dehors de la pensée, mais de penser Dieu de manière autofondée et donc « vraie ».— The article first examines the problem of the proof in general and that of the existence of God in general for Hegel. It then examines the various formulations of the proofs of the existence of God as they are resumed by Hegel, in particular those of the ontological proof. The hypothesis is the following : for Hegel, the God of the religion makes himself existing in a process against his deficient forms of existence. There however, it manifests itself, making the proofs superfluous. The three versions of the ontological proof – « Anselmian », « Kantian » and « Hegelian » – represent three modes of God’s relation as subject with objectivity : a unity presupposed, then denied, and finally established as the result of a process. The proofs of the existence of God, which remain « representative », do not aim to establish that there is a God outside of thought, but to conceive God in a self-justified and thus « true » way. In this paper, I will try to propose a general characterisation of the spirit in Hegel's Encyclopaedia. This characterisation is based on the opposition between nature and spirit. More precisely, in my view the Hegelian spirit can be defined as the activity of bringing the natural exteriority back to a living totality.

For instance, what does the soul in the subjective spirit, property (...) in the objective spirit and the cult of the Greek gods in the absolute spirit have in common? Furthermore, when we consider property, for example, the problem is knowing if the spirit is here constituted by the owner, by the deeds of ownership or by the living relationship between the owner and the possessed goods.Moreover, the Hegelian spirit is a philosophical descendant of several different traditions. The question is, therefore, to know how these traditions are linked in the Hegelian notion. I will present these briefly before stating my general hypothesis about the definition of the spirit.First, the Hegelian spirit is connected to thenoûsof the Greek philosophers. Thenoûs— on the one hand, an immaterial entity leading the universe, and, on the other, a faculty of the soul — is most often distinguished by its separate and rational nature. Plato famously promised to complement the Sophist and the Statesman with another work on a third sort of expert, the philosopher--but we do not have this final dialogue. Mary Louise Gill argues that Plato promised the Philosopher, but did not write it, in order to stimulate his audience and encourage his readers to work out, for themselves, the portrait it would have contained. The Sophist and Statesman are themselves members of a larger series starting with the Theaetetus, Plato's investigation of (...) knowledge, and the whole series relies on the Parmenides, the second part of which presents a philosophical exercise, introduced as the first step in a larger philosophical program. Gill contends that the dialogues leading up to the missing Philosopher, though they reach some substantive conclusions, are philosophical exercises of various sorts designed to train students in dialectic, the philosopher's method; and that a second version of the Parmenides exercise, closely patterned on it, spans parts of the Theaetetus and Sophist and brings the philosopher into view. This is the exercise about being, the subject-matter studied by Plato's philosopher. Plato hides the pieces of the puzzle and its solution in plain sight, forcing his students (and modern readers) to dig out the pieces and reconstruct the project. Gill reveals how, in finding the philosopher through the exercise, the student becomes a philosopher by mastering his methods.
