Drivers of Proactive Environmental Strategy in Family Firms.Pramodita Sharma & Sanjay Sharma - 2011 - Business Ethics Quarterly 21 (2):309-334.
Globally, family firms are the dominant organizational form. Family involvement in business and unique family dynamics impacts organizational strategy and performance. However, family control of business has rarely been adopted as a discriminating variable in the organizations and the natural environment (ONE) research field. Drawing on the theory of planned behavior we develop a conceptual framework of the drivers of proactive environmental strategy (PES) in family firms. We argue that family involvement in business influences the attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived (...)

Spirituality and Corporate Philanthropy in Indian Family Firms: An Exploratory Study.Navneet Bhatnagar, Pramodita Sharma & Kavil Ramachandran - 2020 - Journal of Business Ethics 163 (4):715-728.
Family firm philanthropy is the donation of resources to support societal betterment in ways meaningful for the controlling family. Family business literature suggests that socioemotional goals of achieving family prominence, harmony, and continuity drive FFP. However, these drivers fail to explain spiritually motivated philanthropic behaviors like anonymous giving by business families. 14 case studies of Indian Hindu business families with a combined FFP exceeding 2 billion INR in 2016–17 reveal spirituality or the moral dimension as an additional important driver of (...)

Dreamless Sleep and Some Related Philosophical Issues.Ramesh Kumar Sharma - 2001 - Philosophy East and West 51 (2):210 - 231.
The phenomenon of dreamless sleep and its philosophical consequences, particularly deep sleep's relevance to such issues as Self, Consciousness, Personal Identity, Unity of Subject, and Disembodied Life, are explored through a discussion, in varying detail, of certain noted doctrines and views--for example of Advaita Vedānta, Hegel, and H. D. Lewis. Finally, with a cue from Leibniz and McTaggart, the suggestion is made that at no stage during sleep is the self without some perceptions, however indeterminate. Support for this hypothesis is (...)

Unethical Pro-organizational Behavior: A Systematic Review and Future Research Agenda.Madhurima Mishra, Koustab Ghosh & Dheeraj Sharma - 2022 - Journal of Business Ethics 179 (1):63-87.
Since the conceptualization of unethical pro-organizational behavior ten years ago, scholarly interest in exploring this phenomenon has multiplied. Given a burgeoning body of empirical research, a review of unethical pro-organizational behavior literature is warranted. This study, therefore, systematically reviews the extant literature on unethical pro-organizational behavior and presents a comprehensive theory-based review of the past developments in this field. We classify previous studies based on their underlying theoretical perspectives and discuss the antecedents and consequences of unethical pro-organizational behavior in work (...)

Ideally, a good static reservoir model provides an accurate estimate of the extent, porosity, permeability, and lithology of the container as well as the properties of the seal and any faults or fractures that may allow the reservoir to leak. The major pitfall of deterministic, statistical, or supervised learning workflows is that they estimate only the properties sampled by the wells or provided by empirical relations and may miss mapping heterogeneities in the reservoir and seal that can give rise to (...)

The Utica Shale is one of the major source rocks in Ohio, and it extends across much of the eastern United States. Its organic richness, high content of calcite, and development of extensive organic porosity make it a perfect unconventional play, and it has gained the attention of the oil and gas industry. The primary target zone in the Utica Play includes the Utica Formation, Point Pleasant Formation, and Trenton Formation intervals. We attempt to identify the sweet spots within the (...)

The Devonian Duvernay Formation in northwest central Alberta, Canada, has become a hot play in the past few years due to its richness in liquid and gaseous hydrocarbon resources. The oil and gas generation in this shale formation made it the source rock for many oil and gas fields in its vicinity. We attempt to showcase the characterization of Duvernay Formation using 3D multicomponent seismic data and integrating it with the available well log and other relevant data. This has been (...)

This document provides a brief report on initial research into how argument presentation (visual map vs. regular prose) affects people's susceptibility to confirmation bias as well as their feelings toward political opponents. Using highly polarizing stimuli, we found that argument visualization substantially reduced confirmation bias and, for participants with low CRT scores, the belief that one's political opponents are morally evil.

The ideas of quantum simulation and advances in quantum algorithms to solve quantum chemistry problems have been discussed. Theoretical proposals and experimental investigations both have been studied to gauge the extent to which quantum computation has been applied to solve quantum chemical problems till date. The distinctive features and limitations of the application of quantum simulation on chemical systems and current approaches to define and improve upon standard quantum algorithms have been studied in detail. The possibility and consequences of designing (...)

The present article intends to explore the challenges faced by the urban professionals in reaching for the emotional and professional amidst the neoliberal marketplace, via the narratives salient in Self-Help texts. Self-Help texts embody metaphors that rely on agency bound “bootstrapping” narratives, where individuals are compelled to maximise their agency in terms of tangible profits and fulfil their calculated potential in the social marketplace of competition. The neoliberal marketplace obfuscates the existing inequalities through narratives of multiculturalism and individual empowerment. Deliberation (...)

Seismic reservoir characterization plays an important role in carbon capture and storage analysis. The Havnsø anticlinal structure in Denmark is a prospective CO2 storage site due to its proximity to two large emission sources—a coal-fired power station and a nearby refinery. Although legacy 2D seismic lines over the area outline the anticlinal structure, their quality is insufficient for quantitative interpretation. Earlier studies have shown that the natural gas stored in the Stenlille aquifer exhibits a seismic response similar to the modeled (...)

Does a Consumer’s Religion Really Matter in the Buyer–Seller Dyad? An Empirical Study Examining the Relationship Between Consumer Religious Commitment, Christian Conservatism and the Ethical Judgment of a Seller’s Controversial Business Decision.Krist R. Swimberghe, Dheeraj Sharma & Laura Willis Flurry - 2011 - Journal of Business Ethics 102 (4):581-598.
Religion is an important cultural and individual difference variable. Yet, despite its obvious importance in consumers’ lives, religion in the United States has been under-researched. This study addresses that gap in the literature and investigates the influence of consumer religion in the buyer–seller dyad. Specifically, this study examines the influence of consumer religious commitment and a Christian consumer’s conservative beliefs in the United States on store loyalty when retailers make business decisions which are potentially reli- gious objectionable. This study uses (...)

The troubled path to food sovereignty in Nepal: ambiguities in agricultural policy reform.Puspa Sharma & Carsten Daugbjerg - 2020 - Agriculture and Human Values 37 (2):311-323.
The food sovereignty movement arose as a challenge to neoliberal models of agriculture and food and the corporatization of agriculture, which is claimed to have undermined peasant agriculture and sustainability. However, food sovereignty is an ambiguous idea. Yet, a few countries are institutionalizing it. In this paper, we argue that food sovereignty possesses the attributes of a ‘coalition magnet’ and, thus, brings together policy actors that support agricultural reform, but have diverse and often opposing interests, in a loose coalition. This (...)
