The book is an analysis of Kant’s uses and definitions of the three concepts ‘transcendental philosophy’, ‘ontology’ and ‘logic’. It first focuses on Kant’s definitions of ‘transcendental’ in the Critique of Pure Reason, where the term is used for the very first time with a programmatic meaning, as the qualification of Kant’s specific philosophical standpoint. Secondly, it reconstructs Kant’s position towards metaphysics and ontology in his pre-critical and critical writings, as well as its premises in the Leibnizian and Wolffian metaphysics. (...) It last examines the meaning of the concept of logic in Kant's philosophy. All this shows that a new conception of metaphysics emerges from Kant’s critique and within the critical period. (shrink)

In topical philosophy of religion the word 'given' plays an important role. However the meaning of this word is ambiguous. The word refers not only to the factual reality (datum) but also to what is given as a gift to someone (donum). This ambiguity leads toan unclear mixture of philosophical and religious positions. Therefore an analysis of such mixture is necessary. The main question of this analysis is how faith and religion on the one hand, and ontology and reason on (...) the other hand, influence each other? Isn'tit so that in the religious domain nobody can be convinced with and by rational means? In the first section, the question on the reality of the ultimate meaning as the momentfrom where man is motivated to lead his life, is explored. In the second section the idea is developed that philosophical insights are meaningful with regard to religious meaning only if they are referred back to religious faith. In the third section the question posited is whether philosophical reflection does not loose its original motivationalcontext if it isn't referred back to its original point of departure. L'objet en general, le X kantien, le quelque chose en general, l'objet comme tel apparaissent comme des concepts ultimes de l'ontologie. Cette derniere peut-elle etre identifiee a une theorie de l'objet? Qu'en est-il des relations conceptuelles et historiques entre theorie de l'objet et ontologie formelle? La reponse a ces questions passe par une reevaluation du projet bolzanien et husserlien d'ontologie formelle, une discussion des problemes epineux poses par la theorie meinongienne de l'objet et enfin une enquete sur (...) les apophantismes semantiques (Wittgenstein), les reductions physicalistes (Quine). L'objet quelconque est le premier livre a presenter de maniere detaillee ces problematiques. Il contient un etat des lieux de l'ontologie formelle en tant que projet intellectuel complementaire des sciences cognitives, une histoire des theories metaphysiques de l'objet, une explication de l'ontologie de la variable dans le cadre des nouvelles ontologies formelles. La Logique de Hegel, science de la pensee pure, veut porter a son accomplissement le projet traditionnel de la metaphysique ou philosophie speculative. De la metaphysique, Aristote avait en partie determine le concept d'une maniere qui devait etre decisive, notamment en degageant l'idee de ce qu'on a pu nommer plus tard ontologie. La logique de Hegel, developpement integral de ce que donne a penser le mot etre, est bien a sa maniere une ontologie, mais une ontologie profondement (...) renovee, avec notamment ceci de paradoxal qu'elle abaisse l'etre au sens strict, l'opposant a la vitalite de l'esprit; la Logique conduit ainsi de l'etre a la verite de l'etre, qui consiste ultimement en la subjectivite de l'absolu se concevant soi-meme, que Hegel nomme aussi idee. Dans ce parcours, la Logique retrouve les concepts qu'avait elabores la tradition philosophique des Presocratiques a Kant; elle resout a sa maniere les problemes, explicites ou implicites, dont ces concepts etaient charges. Au-dela de la fausse alternative de la permanence et de la rupture, l'attention portee au rapport de Hegel a la tradition anime ici une explication de l'ensemble de la Logique. Explication qui, en suivant de pres le mouvement du texte, se garde de meconnaitre que le principe de la Logique est, lui-aussi, problematique: n'est-il pas lui-meme issu de cette tradition qu'il donne la force de repenser? Hartmann sah die Aufgabe der Philosophie nicht in der Überwindung, sondern in der kritischen Reformulierung der klassischen ontologischen Fragestellungen. In dem knappen, ausgereiften Traktat von 1949 umreißt er in dichter Zusammenschau noch einmal die Kerngedanken seines Versuchs einer neuen Grundlegung der Ontologie.

The aim of this article is to demonstrate that a certain connection between 'seeing'and 'Being' can be traced within the later work of Merleau-Ponty. It is argued that a theory of seeing which is developed from a radical phenomenological point of view is nota confirmation, but rather a critique of Western representational ontology. The centralprinciple of this critique is formed by the notion of reversibility. By means of the reversible relation between the seer and the seen, and between the visible (...) and the invisible — which is situated within seeing itself —, the traditional opposition between subject and object is abolished and 'Being' loses its alleged meaning of 'presence' and 'unity'. One could say that the meaning of 'seeing' evades the (traditional) philosophicaldiscourse. Therefore, philosophy should consult the practice of the artist, particularly painting. Merleau-Ponty's analysis of painting embodies a profound critique of representational thought, yet at the same time, it shows that this kind of critique does not reject every form of 'giving meaning' or intentionality. The work of art is simultaneously a (bodily) expression and the revelation of the meaning of Being itself. The fission of Being, the elusive visibility, reveals itself in a painting, which could only be made because the painter put into service his or her aesthetic body. (shrink)

In ausführlicher Auseinandersetzung mit Heidegger, in dessen Schriften eine sehr einflussreiche einseitige und entstellende Interpretation und Kritik der großen metaphysischen Tradition immer wieder präsentiert wird, zeigt Lorenz B. Puntel, dass die Gottesfrage klar, rational und argumentativ, kurz: mit theoretischer Rigorosität, behandelt werden kann. Dies aber setzt einen umfassenden philosophischen Theorierahmen voraus, der die Entfaltung einer systematischen Konzeption des Seins als solchen und im Ganzen ermöglicht und in nuce enthält. Anschließend (...) wird eine solche Konzeption im Grundriss zur Darstellung gebracht. In einem ausführlichen Kapitel werden die Positionen von É. Lévinas und J.-L. Marion, den zwei wohl radikalsten postmodernen Kritikern und Gegnern jeder Form eines positiven Verhältnisses zwischen dem "Sein(sdenken)" und (dem Thema) "Gott", eingehend analysiert und deren radikale Unhaltbarkeit demonstriert. Stoická koncepce kategorií představuje ve výzkumu stoické filosofie relativně méně probádanou oblast. Řada textů, které se stoicismu věnují, se zabývá stoickými kategoriemi jen okrajově nebo vůbec. U raných stoiků, kteří se metafyzikou, jak z pozdějších zpráv víme, intenzivně zabývali, máme dochovány pouze zlomky jejich děl, a i v těch je odkazů na problematiku kategorií velmi málo. Přesně vyjmenovaný seznam stoických kategorií, jak nám jej předala pozdější tradice, u nich nenajdeme, a i míst, kde jsou explicitně diskutovány jednotlivé kategorie, je (...) poměrně poskrovnu. Při rekonstrukci stoické teorie kategorií jsme tudíž často odkázáni na pozdější myslitele či sekundární zdroje, jejichž autoři nebyli mnohdy stoické filosofii nakloněni a jejich explicitním cílem ji bylo vyvrátit. V předkládané práci se pokoušíme přes tyto obtíže stoický systém kategorií na základě soudobých interpretačních pokusů klíčových textu rekonstruovat. (shrink)

Záměr zkoumat metafyziku stoické filosofické školy naráží na řadu problémů. Předně se metafyzikou zabývali zejména nejstarší stoičtí filosofové, především Zénón, Chrýsippos a Kleanthés, ovšem bohužel právě od nich se plně nedochoval žádný spis a tak o jejich filosofických postojích získáváme informace z druhotných zdrojů, jejichž autoři měli často ke stoické filosofii odmítavý postoj. Zároveň se názory těchto myslitelů v určitých bodech rozcházely a stoická filosofie sama procházela vývojem a proměnami, které zprostředkovány jen druhotnými zdroji působí značné interpretační potíže. Přes (...) tyto obtíže se v tomto textu pokoušíme podat přehled základní struktury stoické metafyziky, tak jak se v tomto nejstarším období zformovala, přičemž poukazujeme na některé problémové či sporné otázky. Východiskem je pro naši analýzu pojem tělesa, od něhož docházíme k rekonstrukci třístupňové stoické metafyziky a nejuniverzálnější kategorie „něco“. Následně se věnujeme činnému a trpnému principu tělesnosti a od nich se odvíjejícího metafyzického systému. (shrink)

Das Anliegen der Metaphysik, die Welt aus wenigen Grundprinzipien zu begreifen, ist seit Hume und Kant häufig als illusionär kritisiert worden. Dennoch hat die 'totgesagte' Metaphysik immer wieder 'Auferstehungen' erlebt. Auch in der Moderne werden die alten Fragen nach Welt, Mensch und Gott gestellt, doch geschieht dies vor einem veränderten wissenschaftlichen Hintergrund und auch häufig mit anderen Methoden. Insgesamt zeigt sich in der Moderne ein allmählicher Übergang von einer apriorischen zu einer hypothetischen, wissenschaftsorientierten Metaphysik. Die vorliegende Abhandlung thematisiert acht zentrale (...) Strömungen der Metaphysik seit der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Im Zentrum stehen dabei die philosophischen Weltbilder ihrer Hauptvertreter sowie ihre Standpunkte zum Leib-Seele-Problem und zum Problem der Willensfreiheit, aber auch ihre Stellungnahmen zu den Fragen nach Gott, Unsterblichkeit und dem Sinn des Lebens. Po disputacích k tématům Filosofie nepředmětnosti Ladislava Hejdánka a Nekonečnost konečnosti podle Ivana Chvatíka uspořádala Katedra filosofie Evangelické teologické fakulty UK v Praze dne 29. června 2009 v pořadí již třetí pokus o výměnu mezi domácími filosofy. Tentokrát však nebyl východiskem diskusí programový text některého z účastníků, ale Platónův výklad o nejvyšších rodech v dialogu Sofistés. Tomuto textu se zde dostalo trojí velmi odlišné interpretace, kterou bychom snad mohli vzdáleně přirovnat k liternímu, morálnímu a alegorickému neboli naukovému pochopení (...) posvátného textu Písma. Filip Karfík nabízí co možná přesný výklad Platónova textu, Štěpán Špinka sleduje etické implikace Platónovy ontologie, konečně Pavlu Koubovi je pasáž ze Sofisty záminkou pro velmi zajímavé vyrovnání s Heideggerovým pojetím bytí v jeho rozštěpu na bytí jsoucna výskytového a bytí pobytu, o to zajímavější, že je provedeno prostředky Heideggerova vlastního výkladu dialogu Sofistés. Na příspěvek Pavla Kouby navazuje diskuse o zdánlivě dílčím aspektu jeho výkladu, totiž o otázce, zda identitu chceme, nebo nechceme chápat pouze jako dějství diferujících vztahů. V zájmu historické věrnosti třeba poznamenat, že tato diskuse proběhla na disputaci samé jen částečně, zato se zde odehrálo mnoho pozoruhodných diskusí dalších, které nebylo možné svěřit písemnému zachycení. Mnohé se nicméně podařilo zachytit médiem jiným, totiž na fotografiích Věry Koubové, jež jsou uveřejněny na stránkách katedry. (shrink)

The approach of structuralism came to philosophy from social science. It was also in social science where, in 1950–1970s, in the form of the French structuralism, the approach gained its widest recognition. Since then, however, the approach fell out of favour in social science. Recently, structuralism is gaining currency in the philosophy of mathematics. After ascertaining that the two structuralisms indeed share a common core, the question stands whether general structuralism could not find its way back into social science. The (...) nature of the major objections raised against French structuralism – concerning its alleged ahistoricism, methodological holism and universalism – are reconsidered. While admittedly grounded as far as French structuralism is concerned, these objections do not affect general structuralism as such. The fate of French structuralism thus does not seem to preclude the return of general structuralism into social science, rather, it provides some hints where the difficulties may lie. (shrink)

Plótínovo filosofické dílo je mimořádně systematické, nicméně jeho značný rozsah a složitost znesnadňuje celkové pochopení a výklad. V předkládané studii se pokoušíme prozkoumat základní strukturu celé Plótínovy metafyzické stavby, v souladu s nejnovějšími interpretačními poznatky. Východiskem je hierarchické uspořádání celého systému, přičemž ve výkladu postupujeme po metafyzických úrovních a snažíme se charakterizovat jak jejich vlastní povahu, tak vztah k ostatním součástem Plótínova systému.

L’ipotesi di un primato ontologico della categoria della “relazione” (il pros ti aristotelico) – dunque di una costituzione intrinsecamente relazionale dell’essere stesso di ciò che è – attraversa l’intera vicenda del pensiero occidentale, fondendo a volte la propria storia con quella, altrettanto intricata e controversa, di cui la scoperta del “trascendentale” si è resa protagonista prima e dopo Kant. Essa sembra caratterizzarsi anzitutto per un’impronta polemica nei confronti di ogni ontologia che metta capo ad una visione statica della sostanza, del (...) soggetto e del fondamento, concepiti come sistemi di riferimento chiusi ed autocentrati. Tuttavia non è facile identificare e raccogliere in unità, sulla sola traccia di quest’impronta, gli autori e le forme in cui l’ipotesi ha trovato storicamente espressione. Più che a particolari autori ed a particolari filosofie, nell’espressione “ontologie della relazione”, che dà il titolo alla parte monografica di questo fascicolo, il plurale allude alla ricorrenza di una particolare direzione di ricerca e di scavo critico che, in vario modo operante, in varie forme iterata e rifratta nella storia del pensiero, merita forse di essere per se stessa, infine, posta a tema. V článku nejprve rekapituluji postoje, které k modalitám zaujali zakladatelé moderní logiky a analytické filosofie, preferující logickou či epistemickou redukci, poté přecházím k jejich soudobým metafyzickým oponentům, vycházejícím z novoleibnizovské ontologie možných světů, poukazuji na nevyjasněné předpoklady některých z jejich „argumentů“, k nimž pak – a k filosofické analýze možnosti vůbec – připojuji několik obecně-kritických tezí založených na Wittgenstein-Carnapově pojetí možného jako smysluplného.

All’inizio del secolo XX, tre filosofi di Cambridge, Alfred North Whitehead, Bertrand Russell, e Charlie Dunbar Broad, sostennero un’ontologia basata sugli eventi che si riteneva fosse compatibile con la recente teoria della relatività . Gli eventi, perciò, rimpiazzavano le sostanze aristoteliche in veste di componenti primari dell’universo – essi erano concepiti come unità di spazio-tempo che si estendevano spazio-temporalmente e che si sovrapponevano al campo elettromagnetico. Via via che la fisica moderna progrediva, le ontologie basate sugli eventi sembrarono guadagnare (...) ulteriore supporto dal comportamento inaspettato delle particelle elementari descritte a livello quantistico. Dall’espansione dell’universo alle traiettorie delle particelle subatomiche, sembrava che tutto potesse essere sistematicamente interpretato in termini di eventi. (shrink)

La recente pubblicazione delle note di corso Recherches sur l’usage littéraire du langage sono una conferma del ruolo giocato dal linguaggio poetico in Merleau-Ponty in quell’ambizioso e incompiuto progetto perseguito dal 1951 Sur la phénoménologie du langage. La convinzione che il linguaggio sia la questione cruciale per la fenomenologia avvicina le ricerche di Merleau-Ponty a quelle che Ricoeur svilupperà negli anni Settanta: è nella parola, nel discorso pronunciato, che avviene non solo il rapporto tra soggetti, ma anche quello con le (...) cose. Per entrambi i filosofi la Lebenswelt è una sorta di terra promessa della fenomenologia; un mondo che ci è dato cogliere soltanto in modo mediato. E a rappresentare una forma di mediazione esemplare è la figura retorica della metafora, negazione di ogni tentazione di presa diretta, di trasparenza del linguaggio stesso: nella parola metaforica, non riducibile alla dimensione nominale, viene delineata una ontologia “indiretta” o “abbozzata”. Tecnica stilistica da Merleau-Ponty, a differenza di Ricoeur, più praticata che teorizzata, la metafora poetica, o viva, realizza lo snodo tra pre-categoriale e categoriale, tra mondo sensibile e mondo dell’espressione, tra logos muto e logos pronunciato. Riprendendo l’analogia individuata da Valéry tra danza e linguaggio letterario, Merleau-Ponty traccia una teoria della figura come espressione degli ordini di senso percepiti che può trasfigurare il linguaggio ordinario; teoria molto vicina a quella ricoeuriana di “figurazione” che nel mondo della vita si radica per poi tornarvi.La publication récente des notes du cours Recherches sur l’usage littéraire du langage confirment le rôle joué par le langage poétique chez Merleau-Ponty dans le projet ambitieux et inachevé qu’il engage à partir de 1951 dans l’essai Sur la phénoménologie du langage. Dans l’expression métaphorique, non réductible à la dimension nominale, une ontologie « indirecte » ou « ébauchée » est esquissée. Technique stylistique chez Merleau-Ponty, plus pratiquée que théorisée à la différence de Ricoeur, la métaphore poétique, ou vivante, réalise la jonction entre le précatégorial et le catégorial, entre le monde sensible et le monde de l’expression, entre logos muet et logos proféré. Reprenant l’analogie de Valéry entre danse et langage littéraire, Merleau-Ponty trace une théorie de la figure comme expression des ordres de la perception qui peut transfigurer le langage ordinaire ; une théorie très proche de celle de Ricoeur de la « figuration » qui, enracinée dans le monde de la vie, y retourne ensuite.The recent publication of the lecture notes Research on the Literary Use of Language confirms the role played by poetic language in Merleau-Ponty’s ambitious and unfinished project that began in his 1951 essay “On the Phenomenology of Language.” The conviction that language is the crucial question for phenomenology in Merleau-Ponty’s work nears the research Paul Ricoeur would develop in the 1970’s: it is in words, in expressed discourse, that we encounter not only relations among subjects, but also our relation to things. For the two philosophers, the Lebenswelt is a sort of promised land for phenomenology, a world that we can grasp only indirectly. And, it is the figure of the metaphor that represents an exemplary form of mediation, as a negation of every attempt toward a direct grasp, of the transparency of language in itself. In the metaphorical expression, which is not reducible to a nominal dimension, an “indirect” or “outlined” ontology is sketched out. In the stylistic technique of Merleau-Ponty, more practiced than theoretical unlike Ricoeur, the poetic or living metaphor constitutes a junction between the pre-categorical and the categorical, between the sensible world and the world of expression, between silent logos and pronounced logos. Referring to Valery’s analogy between dance and literary language, Merleau-Ponty traces a theory of the figure as expression in the orders of perception that can transfigure ordinary language, a theory very similar to that of Ricoeur’s “figuration” which, rooted in the world of life, subsequently returns to it. Existuje překvapivě málo knih, které by se pokoušely o syntetizující pohled na analytickou filosofii. Je ovšem pravda, že ve druhé polovině našeho století se soubor filosofů, kteří se k analytické filosofii hlásí nebo kteří k ní bývají řazeni, stává natolik různorodý, že se jakákoli syntéza stává problematickou; překvapivě málo syntetizujících prací existuje ale i o ‘klasické’ analytické filosofii, to jest o analytické filosofii období zhruba od konce devatenáctého století do poloviny století dvacátého. Dejnožkova kniha je jednou z těch mála, které (...) se o něco takového pokouší, a to je třeba přivítat. Dejnožka se ovšem nesnaží podat všestranný rozbor názorů klasiků analytické filosofie; soustředí se pouze jeden aspekt jejich učení, totiž na jejich ontologii. Hned v úvodu své knihy k tomu vysvětluje, jaké opodstatnění může mít hovořit o ontologii u takového druhu filosofie, která se programově distancuje od metafyziky. Podle něj je tomu tak, že i když se někteří analytičtí filosofové někdy více či méně úspěšně vyhýbali otázkám metafyzickým (to jest otázkám po nejzákladnějších kategoriích bytí), ontologickým otázkám (to jest otázkám po povaze bytí jako takového) se v podstatě vyhnout nelze. A Dejnožka se snaží ukázat, že klasikové analytické filosofie se těmito otázkami zabývali mnohdy velice do hloubky. To je patrné zejména u Frega a Russella, kterým autor věnuje největší pozornost; avšak k těm, kteří podle Dejnožky berou ústřední otázku ontologie za svou, řadí Dejnožka i Wittgensteina i Quina (jimž se však věnuje na pouze velice omezeném prostoru - každému asi na dvanácti stránkách). Významnou součástí novopozitivistické filosofie byl Carnapův projekt eliminace metafyziky logickou analýzou jazyka, ohlášený ve stejnojmenném článku. Tento projekt směřoval mj. k vytvoření tzv. logické syntaxe jazyka, která by umožňovala odhalit metafyzické věty jako nesmyslné a eliminovat je z vědeckého diskurzu. V tomto textu se nejprve věnujeme Carnapovu vymezení logické syntaxe v historickém kontextu. Následně analyzujeme Carnapovy neúspěšné pokusy logickou syntaxi jazyka zkonstruovat, přičemž ukazujeme, že jeho obtíže při hledání logické syntaxe nejsou nahodilé, ale mají systémovou povahu a souvisí se (...) způsobem, jakým Carnap problém vymezil. Na závěr formulujeme důsledky Carnapova selhání pro jeho filosofický projekt eliminace metafyziky a pro novopozitivismus jako celek. (shrink)
