En 1975, au sortir de la période la plus intensément politique de son oeuvre et de sa vie, Louis Althusser décide de rédiger un manuel de philosophie qui serait enfin accessible à tous, sans préparation. Initiation à la philosophie pour les non-philosophes en est le résultat. Mais bien loin d'être un simple ouvrage de vulgarisation ou d'introduction, c'est en réalité un véritable précipité des thèses les plus fondamentales de sa propre pensée qu'offre Althusser. Entre cent autres considérations, nulle part ailleurs (...) ne va-t-il aussi loin dans la distinction entre la philosophie et les autres pratiques ; nulle part non plus ne développe-t-il avec tant de détails le concept de "pratique" lui-même. Pourtant, parmi les nombreux apports cruciaux d'Althusser au "moment philosophique des années 1960", ce concept est peut-être celui qui a bénéficié du plus grand succès et été à la source du plus grand nombre de malentendus. Moment de synthèse dans l'oeuvre d'Althusser, instantané d'une des plus influentes philosophies de la seconde moitié du XXe siècle, cette Initiation est donc aussi un manifeste pour la pensée à venir - une pensée dont le succès contemporains des enfants d'Althusser (de Rancière à Badiou, de Zizek à Balibar) manifeste assez la contemporanéité et l'urgence. A study of the constitution and development of the human being from the metaphysical point of view, with special reference to Vedantic doctrine.

The Reign of Quantity gives a concise but comprehensive view of the present state of affairs in the world, as it appears from the point of view of the 'ancient wisdom', formerly common both to the East and to the West, but now almost entirely lost sight of. The author indicates with his fabled clarity and directness the precise nature of the modern deviation, and devotes special attention to the development of modern philosophy and science, and to the part played (...) by them, with their accompanying notions of progress and evolution, in the formation of the industrial and democratic society which we now regard as 'normal'. Guénon sees history as a descent from Form (or Quality) toward Matter (or Quantity); but after the Reign of Quantity-modern materialism and the 'rise of the masses'-Guénon predicts a reign of 'inverted quality' just before the end of the age: the triumph of the 'counter-initiation', the kingdom of Antichrist. This text is considered the magnum opus among Guénon's texts of civilizational criticism, as is Symbols of Sacred Science among his studies on symbols and cosmology, and Man and His Becoming according to the Vedanta among his more purely metaphysical works. Buddhist concepts of personal life and responsibilities.

The objective of this study is twofold: to examine the patterns that govern social reporting with reference to an Islamic framework and to identify the moral legitimacy factors that influence them. We select 146 publicly listed Sharia‐compliant companies and classify the disclosures in their annual reports according to an Islamic framework that categorises items as either Required, Expected or Desired to indicate the degree of importance each item carries from an Islamic perspective. Based on this framework, we then analyse moral (...) legitimacy factors, specifically the type of Sharia screening body and the proportion of Muslims in the population, that may influence the prioritisation of the different categories of social reporting. We find that disclosures that fall into the Required category of our framework—especially those that relate to companies’ involvement in “haram” activities (activities not permissible in Islam)—are still few among the companies studied. Our research also reveals that both moral legitimacy factors under investigation influence the three categories of social reporting, although in different ways. This research contributes to the existing literature by empirically examining how organisations prioritise their disclosure of virtues and the moral legitimacy factors that influence that prioritisation. L’auteur aborde l’approche synchronique en histoire des idées et développe la théorie du discours social qu’il a exposée dans nombre de ses livres en tant qu’analyse en totalité en coupe synchronique de ce qui s’écrit et se diffuse dans un état de société. Il définit dans le cadre de cette problématique les notions fondamentales d’hégémonie discursive, de topographie, d’interdiscursivité et de sociogramme notamment.

En 1980, lors d'une décade de Cerisy consacrée à Derrida, Lyotard somme ce dernier de confronter son hégélianisme à celui d'Adorno et de s'expliquer sur la possibilité de l'enchaînement du sens "après Auschwitz". En 1982, lors d'une décade dédiée à Lyotard et consacrée à la question "Comment juger?", Derrida répond et ne répond pas : il s'interroge sur le "pathos" de la question adornienne de Lyotard, mais il ne se réfère pas à la Dialatique négative. Cette querelle forme le foyer (...) à partir duquel une analyse méthodique des lectures et non-lectures lyotardiennes et derridiennes d'Adorno devient possible. Avec cette étude, Michèle Cohen-Halimi invite à penser l'histoire de la philosophie sous le signe du conflit. Derrida et Lyotard dans leur rapport et non-rapport philosophique mutuel comme dans leur relation contrastée à la Dialectique négative se font, à leur insu, les historiens d'un temps de la pensée qui est encore le nôtre. Car toute une part de notre contemporanéité philosophique procède de cette non-réception de la Dialectique négative et apparaît sous trois traits caractéristiques : Lyotard a traduit l'innommable adornien par l'imphrasable puis par la phrase-affect ; cette traduction toujours plus affine du régime kantien de définition de l'irreprésentable a fini par produire une "esthétisation" de l'innommable adornien. L'alternative philosophique est ainsi devenue : soit dire l'incommensurable d'Auschwitz et le dire de telle sorte qu'il soit dit, soit dire cet incommensurable pour que seule soit dite sa non-dicibilité, et qu'il ne soit pas dit. Pour Adorno, c'est la possibilité de dire l'impossibilité qu'il faut pousser et non l'impossibilité de dire qu'il faut formuler. Le second trait est corrélatif du premier : l'antinomie française Kant/Hegel a été le dispositif opératoire le plus récurrent dans la querelle de Cerisy, l'investissement anti-hégélien d'une certaine tradition hétérologique française s'y est montré agissant. L'"irreprésentable", l'"intraitable" se sont traduits dans le vocable "Juif", et ont constitué ce vocable en synonyme de la différence de toutes les différences ou différence exemplaire. Derrida s'est singularisé par sa mise en garde contre l'exemplarité juive, mais cette problématisation nuancée s'est étrangement maintenue à grande distance de la question soulevée par la Dialectique négative : comment la métaphysique pourrait-elle ne pas avoir été entamée, affectée, bouleversée, par la barbarie? The paper presents a positive argument for a version of metaphysically light ethical non-naturalism from the nature of mental states such as desires. It uses as its premise the time-honoured, and recently rediscovered, doctrine of the guise of the good, whereby it is essential to desire that the object of desire be conceived as good or as normatively favoured under some description. The argument is that if the guise of the good is a correct theory of desire, then a certain (...) version of non-naturalism is better placed than other meta-ethical views to make sense of it. First I define ethical non-naturalism and the guise of the good, providing also an initial defence of the latter. Then I briefly survey some historical precedents and proceed to the argument. For each major meta-ethical view I consider I offer reasons why combining them with the guise of the good leads to consequences that are or should be unwelcome by the guise of the good. At the end of this elimination process a form of relatively metaphysically light non-naturalism will emerge as the view that best fits with the guise of the good. (shrink)

Cet article prend au sérieux le motif kantien d’un commencement de la connaissance avec (c’est-à-dire comme) l’expérience. Il rappelle que si l’expérience commence, il en va de même de ses conditions a priori : elles sont acquises originairement?; l’ a priori logique est produit de façon épigénétique. Le sens structurel et fonctionnel de ces conditions implique qu’elles ne précèdent pas leur performance : elles ne sont rien avant d’advenir et ne sont qu’à l’œuvre (événementialité). On interroge alors le sens temporel (...) de cet a priori voué à commencer : ni plastique, ni éternel, ni daté, le transcendantal advient comme le contemporain de toute expérience possible, et donc de tous ses objets. Certaines objections réalistes récemment adressées au transcendantalisme sont ainsi discutées. (shrink)
