Planning and control of action as solutions to an independence of visual mechanisms.James G. Phillips, Thomas J. Triggs & James W. Meehan - 2004 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 27 (1):46-47.
Glover proposes a planning–control model for the parietal lobe that contrasts with previous formulations that suggest independent mechanisms for perception and action. The planning–control model potentially solves practical functional problems with a proposed independence of perception and action, and offers some new directions for a study of human performance.

    The Perceived Role of Ethics and Social Responsibility.Scott J. Vitell, Joseph G. P. Paolillo & James L. Thomas - 2003 - Business Ethics Quarterly 13 (1):63-86.
This study examined the effect of various antecedent variables on marketers’ perceptions of the role of ethics and socialresponsibility in the overall success of the firm. Variables examined included Hofstede’s cultural dimensions (i.e., power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism, masculinity, and Confucian dynamism), as well as corporate ethical values and enforcement ofan ethics code. Additionally, individual variables such as ethical idealism and relativism were included. Results indicated that most ofthese variables impacted marketers’ perceptions of the importance of ethics and social responsibility, (...)

We use a result due to Rolin, Speissegger, and Wilkie to show that definable sets in certain o-minimal structures admit definable parameterizations by mild maps. We then use this parameterization to prove a result on the density of rational points on curves defined by restricted Pfaffian functions.

Was Medical Theory Heterodox in the Latin Middle Ages?G. J. Mcaleer - 2001 - Recherches de Theologie Et Philosophie Medievales 68 (2):349-370.
All intellectual histories of the Middle Ages note that Greek and Arabic science, medicine, commentary and philosophy had an enormous influence upon the great intellectual achievements of the later Middle Ages in the Latin West. Yet, these same histories also tend to cast the condemnations of 1277 as a watershed moment when the Christian West rejected the science and philosophy of pagans and infidels, and especially the synthesis of the two, the commentaries on Aristotle’s works by Averroes. Recognizing the oddness (...)

How do environmental factors influence life cycles and development? An experimental framework for early‐diverging metazoans.Thomas C. G. Bosch, Maja Adamska, René Augustin, Tomislav Domazet-Loso, Sylvain Foret, Sebastian Fraune, Noriko Funayama, Juris Grasis, Mayuko Hamada, Masayuki Hatta, Bert Hobmayer, Kotoe Kawai, Alexander Klimovich, Michael Manuel, Chuya Shinzato, Uli Technau, Seungshic Yum & David J. Miller - 2014 - Bioessays 36 (12):1185-1194.
Ecological developmental biology (eco‐devo) explores the mechanistic relationships between the processes of individual development and environmental factors. Recent studies imply that some of these relationships have deep evolutionary origins, and may even pre‐date the divergences of the simplest extant animals, including cnidarians and sponges. Development of these early diverging metazoans is often sensitive to environmental factors, and these interactions occur in the context of conserved signaling pathways and mechanisms of tissue homeostasis whose detailed molecular logic remain elusive. Efficient methods for (...)

Should assisted dying be legalised?Thomas D. G. Frost, Devan Sinha & Barnabas J. Gilbert - 2014 - Philosophy, Ethics, and Humanities in Medicine 9:3.
When an individual facing intractable pain is given an estimate of a few months to live, does hastening death become a viable and legitimate alternative for willing patients? Has the time come for physicians to do away with the traditional notion of healthcare as maintaining or improving physical and mental health, and instead accept their own limitations by facilitating death when requested? The Universities of Oxford and Cambridge held the 2013 Varsity Medical Debate on the motion “This House Would Legalise (...)

Preventing Disclosure-Induced Moral Licensing: Evidence from the Boardroom.Thomas G. Canace, Leigh Salzsieder & Tammie J. Schaefer - 2023 - Journal of Business Ethics 187 (4):841-857.
Market participants continue to demand greater transparency from boards of directors, yet little is known about the effect of increased transparency on director decisions. Using a sample of practicing board members, our first experiment provides evidence that increased transparency via disclosure may license directors to make more biased decisions. Guided by rich insights provided by these directors, we examine whether considering a company’s ethical values can deter disclosure-induced licensing by activating a morality mindset. In two additional experiments, we find that (...)

The tubulin and histone genes of Physarum polycephalum: Models for cell cycle‐regulated gene expression.Thomas G. Laffler & John J. Carrino - 1986 - Bioessays 5 (2):62-65.
Although the great majority of genes are not subject to cell‐cycle controls, those that are could play a very important role in regulation of the cell cycle itself. The tubulin and histone genes of the naturally synchronous myxomycete, Physarum polycephalum, provide an excellent paradigm for such regulation. The transcription of both is highly periodic within the Physarum cycle, and curiously, both sets of genes appear to be activated at the same time. This activation appears to function as part of a (...)
