Gender and Perceived Fundamental Moral Orientations: An Empirical Study of the Turkish Hotel Industry.Michael K. McCuddy, Musa Pinar, Ibrahim Birkin & Metin Kozak - 2009 - Journal of Business Ethics 89 (3):331-349.
Recent history is replete with scandalous acts and charitable acts within the business community. Unfortunately, scandalous acts seem to occur with greater frequency than charitable acts – at least as reported in the broadcast and print media. An interesting corollary to the incidence of scandalous and charitable acts is the apparent differential involvement of men and women, particularly in scandals. This article explores a possible explanation for the apparent gender differential in involvement in scandals and acts of charity. Drawing on (...)

    Můj J. B. Kozák.Pavel Spunar - 2015 - Studia Philosophica 62 (1):71-104.

The role of thought suppression in building mental blocks☆.Megan Kozak, R. Weylin Sternglanz, Uma Viswanathan & Daniel M. Wegner - 2008 - Consciousness and Cognition 17 (4):1123-1130.
This research examined the role of thought suppression in the formation of mental blocks. In Experiment 1, participants were asked to generate a series of creative associates for two target words after initially suppressing a word that was semantically related to one of the two target words. Participants produced fewer responses, and experienced a greater sensation of being mentally blocked, when attempting to produce associates for the target word that was semantically related to the suppressed word. In Experiment 2, participants (...)

Strategies of othering through discursive practices: Examples from the UK and Poland.Katerina Strani & Anna Szczepaniak-Kozak - 2018 - Lodz Papers in Pragmatics 14 (1):163-179.
This article discusses findings of a qualitative study on strategies of othering observed in anti-immigrant discourse, by analysing selected examples from the UK and Polish media, together with data collected from interviews with migrants. The purpose is to identify discursive strategies of othering, which aim to categorise, denigrate, oppress and ultimately reject the stigmatised or racialised ‘other’. We do not offer a systematic comparison of the data from the UK and Poland; instead, we are interested in what is common in (...)

  7. Perspectives of Public Health Nurses on the Ethics of Mandated Vaccine Education.Mark Christopher Navin, Andrea T. Kozak & Michael J. Deem - 2020 - Nursing Outlook 68 (1):62-72.
Background Since 2015, Michigan has required parents who request nonmedical exemptions (NMEs) from school or daycare immunization mandates to receive education from local public health staff (usually nurses). This is unlike most other US states that have implemented mandatory immunization counseling, which require physicians to document immunization education, or which provide online instruction. -/- Purpose To attend to the activity and dispositions of the public health staff who provide “waiver education”. -/- Method This study reports results of focus group interviews (...)

A Framework Evaluating Social and Environmental Issues.Rajat Panwar, Eric Hansen & Rob Kozak - 2009 - Proceedings of the International Association for Business and Society 20:153-159.
This paper proposes that issues evaluation can be conducted by a framework which integrates the concept of a legitimacy gap with expectational gaps (factual, conformance, and ideal gaps). Using this framework, this paper empirically demonstrates the existence of expectational gaps in the context of the forest products industry by means of a quantitative survey. Results indicate that significant expectational gaps exist. This framework may have relevance for both issues management and legitimacy scholars.

Background Moral distress is a serious problem for health care personnel. Surveys, individual interviews, and focus groups may not capture all of the effects of, and responses to, moral distress. Therefore, we used a new participatory action research approach—moral conflict assessment (MCA)—to characterize moral distress and to facilitate the development of interventions for this problem. Aim To characterize moral distress by analyzing responses of intensive care unit (ICU) personnel who participated in the MCA process. Research Design In this qualitative study, (...)

Evaluating Social and Environmental Issues by Integrating the Legitimacy Gap With Expectational Gaps: An Empirical Assessment of the Forest Industry.Robert Kozak, Eric Hansen & Rajat Panwar - 2014 - Business and Society 53 (6):853-875.
This article adopts an issues management approach to corporate social responsibility implementation. Issues evaluation, which is an integral component of issues management, can be conducted by using the concept of three expectational gaps. However, the concept of expectational gaps suffers from an ambiguity that limits its application to issues evaluation. The legitimacy gap concept is used in this article to clarify the ambiguity surrounding expectational gaps. The study thus develops a four-gap framework for conducting a quantitative issues evaluation. This framework (...)

    What Cannot Be Deconstructed? Truth.Piotr Kozak - 2022 - Studia Philosophiae Christianae 58 (2):129-136.
In this paper, I discuss the interpretation of the method of deconstruction in David J. Gunkel’s Deconstruction (MIT Press 2021). I focus on the relationship between deconstruction and truth. I hold that the concept of truth is indispensable for deconstruction since truth introduces correctness conditions for the deconstructive method. However, I claim that truth, being essential and primitive for deconstruction, is fundamentally inaccessible for being analyzed by the latter. ------------------------- Received: 19/10/2022. Marginalized Communities and Social Enterprises.Meike Siegner, Rajat Panwar & Robert Kozak - 2019 - Proceedings of the International Association for Business and Society 30:59-65.
Thus far, the academic focus has been limited to understand how hybrid organizations balance goal plurality. However, the question how hybrids engage (or fail to engage) local communities in this process and the potential challenges involved has remained unaddressed. Relying on an inductive multiple case study of six Canadian community forest enterprises (CFEs), we describe dilemmas that arise between community engagement and CFEs’ other goals that form their social mission, as well as a distinct set of compromise tactics to address (...)

How (not) to be secular: reading Charles Taylor.James K. A. Smith - 2014 - Grand Rapids, Michigan: William B. Eerdmans Publishing Company.
How (Not) to Be Secular is what Jamie Smith calls "your hitchhiker's guide to the present" -- it is both a reading guide to Charles Taylor's monumental work A Secular Age and philosophical guidance on how we might learn to live in our times. Taylor's landmark book A Secular Age (2007) provides a monumental, incisive analysis of what it means to live in the post-Christian present -- a pluralist world of competing beliefs and growing unbelief. Jamie Smith's book is a (...)

The aim of my article is to juxtapose and compare the concept of man immersed in the finite and on the other hand transcending towards the infinite. My task is to extract and analyse the fabulously contrasting moments in the thought of Heidegger and Levinas on the question of the connec-tion and interpenetration of time and death. Both philosophers grow out of the phenomenological tradition, but their analyses of the problem of the connection between time and death go in different (...)

Emocje epistemiczne i normatywność albo o tym jak pokochać teorię znaczenia.Piotr Kozak - 2019 - Studia Philosophiae Christianae 54 (1):121.
Celem artykułu jest omówienie zagadnienia treści i funkcji tzw. emocji epistemicznych, takich jak poczucie poprawności i niepoprawności. Twierdzę, że odpowiednie wyjaśnienie tych ostatnich powinno uwzględnić ich nie-metareprezentacyjny, niedykursywny i pozbawiony kryteriów charakter. W nawiązaniu do zagadnienia tzw. normatywności pierwotnej i problemu kierowania się regułą twierdzę, że możemy powiązać emocje epistemiczne z teorią znaczenia i argumentuję, że pewna klasa emocji epistemicznych, tj. poczucie poprawności i niepoprawności, stanowi warunek konieczny znaczenia.

The aim of the text is an elaboration of the Moses Mendelssohn’s aesthetics and its connections to the German philosophical thought of Enlightenment. I analyze the issue of sensations and so-called mixed sensations and I argue that they are the necessary condition of cognition. I present the relations between aesthetics and ethics and I elaborate so-called theory of three faculties. I argue that sense is an element conjoining action and cognition.

Relationship between job satisfaction and perception of manager’s behavior.Agnieszka Kozak - 2014 - Journal for Perspectives of Economic Political and Social Integration 20 (1-2):37-52.
Job satisfaction is related to the match between an individual and the environment. This match gains special significance in the field of values. Behaviours of managers in a given organisation are the exemplification of values but also indicate what is important in a given culture. Since the requirements of corporate culture cause some unification of employees, it seems that for job satisfaction it will be important whether or not managers will ensure them individual treatment. Thus, the objective of the research (...)

In contrast to the previous work, we prove the strong completeness theorem for CyInFL with ‘intuitionistic’ sequents and all of its basic variants, including variants with contraction.
