L’article a pour objet l’analyse des interactions verbales entre des adolescents polyhandicapés et des adultes ayant soins. L’objectif de l’étude est de montrer comment le phénomène de répétition qui se distribue nécessairement sur le plan interlocutoire engendre ou facilite le processus d’intercompréhension. Les résultats montrent que la répétition fonctionne comme un processus dialogique dont la dynamique intersubjective contribue à la construction et à l’accomplissement réussi de l’échange conversationnel. Perruchet & Vinter do not fully resolve issues about the role of consciousness and the unconscious in cognition and learning, and it is doubtful that consciousness has been computationally implemented. The cascade-correlation (CC) connectionist model develops high-order feature detectors as it learns a problem. We describe an extension, knowledge-based cascade-correlation (KBCC), that uses knowledge to learn in a hierarchical fashion.

We suggest that the framework proposed by Vigil is useful in laboratory contexts but might come up short for in vivo social interactions. Emotions result from cost-benefits trade-offs but are not solely generated at the individual level to establish emotional social spheres. In organizational contexts, emotion expression can be a constitutive part of a professional activity, and observed sex differences might vanish.

This paper examines the correspondence and contacts between Galileo and a number of French intellectuals. It demonstrates that exchanges between Galileo and those Frenchmen did much to stimulate an interest in new scientific ideas in France, especially in astronomy; for example, Galileo provided a number of good telescopic lenses that did much to establish observational astronomy in France. The Frenchmen for their part provided Galileo with considerable useful information. Several were very active in his support after the condemnation of 1633 (...) and in publishing his later works. The paper further demonstrates the extent of the network of intellectuals who corresponded with Galileo and each other across Europe in the early seventeenth century. (shrink)

Cet article propose la critique d’un concept relativement nouveau en jeu dans la détention et l’exclusion des migrants « irréguliers », à savoir que l’État-nation a une « capacité d’accueil » limitée et objective quant à l’accueil des étrangers – une capacité qui, lorsqu’elle est dépassée, justifie une défense militarisée. La théorie de Freud sur les blessures psychiques commence par postuler par contre une « capacité de réception » infinie [Aufnahmefähigkeit] propre au système perceptif humain – une capacité illimitée à accueillir ce qui est extérieur, qui est à la fois la condition d’origine de la vie incarnée et ce qui doit être géré et régulé pour survivre. Les spéculations de Freud dans Au-delà du principe de plaisir aident à dissoudre une conception mythopoétique de la Vie qui est depuis devenue centrale dans l’imaginaire racial anti-immigrant. The role of Parliament has been fundamentally changed by the following factors : 1° the growing technicality of society, 2° the growing influence of administration and the executive, 3° the new forms of democratic practice, 4° the management of political parties.In practice, the legislative function turns more and more into a control of the general objectives of the law rather than of the technical and juridical aspects. Besides, it is important to examine, from a constitutional point of view, the different (...) forms of delegation.The control of both executive power and ombudsfunction remain the basic tasks of Parliament. The technical means, needed to perform these tasks, have therefore to be considerably improved. Beside the evolution of these two classical functions, it is vital to meet the growing power conflicts between government, parties, social partners and Parliament by creating new patterns of deliberation.To maintain the parliamentary system it is essential to carry through such constitutional reforms as will prevent arbitrary dissolution of Parliament. . Computational chemistry grew in a new era of “desktop modeling,” which coincided with a growing demand for modeling software, especially from the pharmaceutical industry. Parameterization of models in computational chemistry is an arduous enterprise, and we argue that this activity leads, in this specific context, to tensions among scientists regarding the epistemic opacity transparency of parameterized methods and the software implementing them. We relate one flame war from the Computational Chemistry mailing List in order to assess in detail the (...) relationships between modeling methods, parameterization, software and the various forms of their enclosure or disclosure. Our claim is that parameterization issues are an important and often neglected source of epistemic opacity and that this opacity is entangled in methods and software alike. Models and software must be addressed together to understand the epistemological tensions at stake. (shrink)

We argue that a fashionable interpretation of the theory of natural selection as a claim exclusively about populations is mistaken. The interpretation rests on adopting an analysis of fitness as a probabilistic propensity which cannot be substantiated, draws parallels with thermodynamics which are without foundations, and fails to do justice to the fundamental distinction between drift and selection. This distinction requires a notion of fitness as a pairwise comparison between individuals taken two at a time, and so vitiates the interpretation (...) of the theory as one about populations exclusively.
