Bioethics scholarship considering the possibility of gestating an embryo to full term in an artificial womb (ectogenesis) often overstates the capacities of current technologies and underestimates the barriers to the development of full ectogenesis. Moreover, this debate causes harm by (1) neglecting more immediate problems in the development of artificial wombs, (2) treating abortion as a “problem with a technological solution,” bolstering anti-abortion rhetoric, and (3) presuming the stability of women’s reproductive rights. The ectogenesis conversation must consider anticipated uses of (...) the technology (neonatal intensive care) and acknowledge the immediate context (recognizing abortion as essential healthcare and existing reproductive inequities). 철학자와 의사가 탐구하는 인간은 동일하지만, 그 안에 내재한 원리에 대한 탐구는 철학과 의학을 개별 학문영역으로 나아가게 한다. 그럼에도 이 두 학문은 건강과 병을 바탕으로 인간의 존재론적 본질을 탐구하는 의 철학 속에서 유기적으로 관계한다. 그럼에도 변함없는 사실은 철학은 의학의 문제의식이며 의학은 철학이 제기한 문제의식을 해소하는 인간학적 답변이라는 것이다. 철학이 사유하는 자연(Natur)과 의학이 보살피는 자연은 동일하다. 그리고 철학자와 의사가 진단하고 치유하는 자연은 동일하다. 인간의 존재론적 토대로서의 자연 속에서 영혼과 육체의 이원론이 무의미한 이유는 이 때문이다. 인간은 대지의 자연과 생명력의 원리를 공유하는 자연의 일부이자 (...) 자연 그 자체이다. 그렇기 때문에 건강과 병은 단 하나의 진리체계 혹은 기계적인 지식체계에 의해 규명될 수 없다. 이러한 의미에서 단 하나의 절대적 인간해석을 해체한 니체의 철학적 사유, 다시 말해 인간을 존재 그 자체로부터 탐구하는 그의 철학적 인간학은 의철학의 사상적 토대로서의 역할을 할 수 있을 것이다. The purpose of the study was to explore the role of emotions, promotion-prevention orientation and feedback on cognitive engagement. In the experiment participants had the possibility to engage in a categorization task thrice. After the first categorization all participants were informed that around 75% of their answers were correct. After the second categorization, depending on the experimental condition, participants received feedback either about success or failure. Involvement in the third categorization was depended on participants’ decision whether to take part in (...) it or not. Each time, before and after categorization, the emotional state was assessed. Results showed that promotion orientation predicted experiencing curiosity before the task, which in turn led to a higher cognitive engagement in the first categorization. Promotion and prevention orientation moderated the type of emotional response to positive feedback. Promotion orientation also predicted cognitive engagement after the feedback of success was provided. Generally results confirmed the positive effect of positive emotions as well as promotion orientation on cognitive engagement. (shrink)

오늘날 급변하는 영화적 환경과 디지털 기술의 발달 그리고 미디어의 다양화는 영화의 제작 환경과 시스템을 빠르게 변화시키고 있다. 또한 필름 시대의 종말은 영화의 ‘죽음’과 ‘진화’ 사이의 논쟁 속에서 새로운 이미지 시대를 개시하고 있다. 이제 더 이상 영화는 전통적인 방식으로 규정될 수 없으며 영화의 위상은 이러한 미디어 환경의 변화 속에서 새롭게 제고되어야 할 것이다.BR 질 들뢰즈의 영화철학은 21세기 영화의 총체적인 변화와 위기를 매체의 본질적인 차원에서 논증할 수 있는 이론적 토대가 된다. 물론 그의 영화철학이 더 이상 현대적인 산물이 아니라는 점은 치명적인 문제가 될 (...) 수 있다. 그러나 오늘날 영화가 직면한 위기와 현상적인 문제들은 다시금 영화의 본질에 대한 의미와 중요성을 각인시키며 현대의 수많은 영화의 논쟁들은 ‘영화란 무엇인가’라는 본질적인 물음으로 향하고 있다. 그것은 영화가 디지털 방식으로 전환되고 그것이 미적 체험과 지각에 심각한 변화를 초래할지라도, 여전히 영화는 이미지, 운동과 시공간, 내러티브 속에서 존재하며 이에 대한 관객의 정신적-심리적 경험은 지속되기 때문이다. 이러한 점에서 들뢰즈 영화철학적 문제제기는 시대적인 한계를 넘어서 현재적인 관점에서 적극적으로 확장하고 재론될 필요가 있다.BR 특히 그의 영화철학은 영화의 정체성에 대한 고전적인 물음을 ‘영화가 무엇을 생산할 수 있는가’라는 창조적이고 당위적인 차원의 논의로 확장시켰다는 점에서 혁신적인 의의를 갖는다. 이러한 점에 착안해서 본 논문은 현실적인 문제 속에서 영화의 잠재적인 역량에 주목했던 들뢰즈의 영화철학을 생산적인 관점에서 해명하고자 한다. 그가 영화의 고유한 창조 행위를 인간적이고 예술적인 저항 행위라고 규정했을 때, 그것은 바로 영화가 이미지의 창조를 넘어서 관객을 새로운 사유의 지평으로 이끌고 이로써 주체적인 인간형상을 구축하는데 기여해야만 한다는 어떤 생산적인 당위성을 의미한다. 따라서 들뢰즈의 관점에서 영화의 미학적인 운동은 새로운 영화 이미지가 얼마나 관객의 창의적인 사유 능력을 이끌어낼 수 있으며, 이것이 어떻게 주체적인 자각과 성찰로 귀결될 수 있는지의 문제와 긴밀하게 연관된다. 이러한 점에서 들뢰즈의 영화철학적 기획들은 ‘이미지’, ‘사유’ ‘주체’의 차원에서 적극적으로 해명될 필요가 있으며 이는 포스트-시네마 시대에 대중문화를 선도하는 영화의 위상과 역할에 많은 시사점을 제공할 것이다. In light of the development of “CRISPR” technology, new promising advances in therapeutic and preventive approaches have become a reality. However, with it came many ethical challenges. The most recent worldwide condemnation of the first use of CRISPR to genetically modify a human embryo is the latest example of ethically questionable use of this new and emerging field. Monotheistic religions are very conservative about such changes to the human genome and can be considered an interference with God’s creation. Moreover, these (...) changes could cause perpetual changes to future generations. The Muslim scholars establish their decisions by addressing five foundations of Islamic law i.e. “maqāṣid al sharı̄`a”; the purposes of the law. These are dın̄, nafs, nasl, `aql and māl. To achieve this, the five principles should all be met before approval of an experiment like the Chinese embryo modifications; Qaṣd which is achieved in this case as it aims to protect the embryo from HIV. Yaqın̄ and Ḍarar were not satisfied as they require strong scientific certainty of the procedures, and evidence of safety. Ḍarūra by which the alternatives being compared; in this case more established and proven safe alternatives to protect the HIV transmission from the father are available, so this principle is not met. The final principle is `Urf, by which the social context of using any contemporary technology should be taken in consideration, and clearly this was not achieved. Collectively, germline changes are rejected from an Islamic perspective until the five principles are fulfilled. In the Chinese Twins gene editing case, there was clearly no justification or support for it according to the Muslim Jurisprudence laws. These laws and approaches can serve as an ethical checklist for such controversial research, especially in early stages of the research. (shrink)

In this chapter, we argue that a distinct concept of “aesthetic hope” emerges from the way Kierkegaard’s Aesthete treats hope [Haab] and its relationship to recollection [Erindring] in “The Unhappiest One” and “Rotation of Crops.” We first show that aesthetic hope is distinct from the two other kinds of hope discussed by Kierkegaard: temporal hope and eternal hope. We then consider the suggestion that aesthetic hope is also an expression of despair – an inverse hope against hope, which seeks to (...) avoid disappointment by hoping for things that are in some sense certain. The aesthete’s recommendation that we hope in such a way illuminates Kierkegaard’s view of the “dialectic” of temporal hope and eternal hope. Finally, we explore the treatment of hope in Either/Or as essentially involving a controlled, attentional element that anticipates some contemporary trends in the philosophy of hope. (shrink)

Due to the environmental and health impact of the private transport sector, social scientists have largely focused on psychosocial and contextual factors associated with people's choice over transport means. This study aims to contribute to this line of research by applying a user-centered approach, with the objective of taking into account the specific environmental and social context of the metropolitan area of Cagliari city. To accomplish this aim, four groups of people were matched according to their shared starting point: car (...) users vs. public transport users, and light-rail users vs. non-light-rail users. Groups were interviewed using a focus group method. Participants were invited to discuss their everyday travel experiences and to exchange their ideas on different sustainable and less sustainable means of transport. Both consolidated drivers/barriers in the field of environmental psychology and public transportation design features have been investigated. Other than highlighting the importance of socio-psychological factors to promote more sustainable transport choices like in previous studies, the present research offers an insight into how these aspects and factors are shaped and experienced in the narratives of residents. Emotions evolved to guide animals in pursuing specific motives and goals. They function as short-term alertors and regulators of behaviour and can be grouped into their evolved functions. Emotions can coregulate/influence each other, where one emotion can activate or suppress another. Importantly, affiliative emotions, that arise from experiencing validation, care and support from others, have major impacts on how people process and respond to threats and emotions associated with threats. Hence, exploring how affiliative emotional experiences change and transform the capacity (...) to cope with threat and pursue life goals, are salient research issues. (shrink)

Biases in cognition are ubiquitous. Social psychologists suggested biases and stereotypes serve a multifarious set of cognitive goals, while at the same time stressing their potential harmfulness. Recently, biases and stereotypes became the purview of heated debates in the machine learning community too. Researchers and developers are becoming increasingly aware of the fact that some biases, like gender and race biases, are entrenched in the algorithms some AI applications rely upon. Here, taking into account several existing approaches that address the (...) problem of implicit biases and stereotypes, we propose that a strategy to cope with this phenomenon is to unmask those found in AI systems by understanding their cognitive dimension, rather than simply trying to correct algorithms. To this extent, we present a discussion bridging together findings from cognitive science and insights from machine learning that can be integrated in a state-of-the-art semantic network. Remarkably, this resource can be of assistance to scholars (e.g., cognitive and computer scientists) while at the same time contributing to refine AI regulations affecting social life. We show how only through a thorough understanding of the cognitive processes leading to biases, and through an interdisciplinary effort, we can make the best of AI technology. (shrink)

“Complexity sciences” are an interdisciplinary and transnational domain of study that aims at modeling natural and social “complex systems.” They appeared in the 1970s in Europe and the United States, but were boosted in the mid-1980s by the Santa Fe Institute under the formula of “science of complexity.” This small but famous institution is the object of the present article. According to their promissory ambitions and to the enthusiastic claims of some scientific journalists, complexity sciences were going to revolutionize all (...) of knowledge and even private and public actors who had learned to master them. In the light of this, one would expect to observe a well-established and autonomous research and educational field, capable of reproducing itself through professional institutions. Yet this is not the case. To explain the paradox, I propose to combine different models of history and sociology of emergent and declining domains, in order to give account of the rise and failure of complexity sciences. Paragraphs §§ 108-133 of Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations seems to contain reminders about what we should and should not do when we do philosophy: we should neither present theories (§109) nor interfere with the actual use of language (§124); we should, on the other hand, bring the words back from their metaphysical use to their everyday use (§116) and simply present things, without explaining them (§126). But if the correct way of doing philosophy is just to describe what lies open to (...) view, what justifies those normative considerations? If everything he has to offer are descriptions, how can he make considerations about philosophy to which the philosophical tradition apparently does not comply? We will argue that these passages do contain methodological recommendations. Those, however, are not the immediate result of the application of the method, i.e., they are not something we discover about philosophy by employing the method itself. The methodological considerations are justified because they are the result of a reliable process of deliberation. What makes the deliberative process reliable is the fact that the application of the method provides us with an accurate description of the goal that the philosophical practice traditionally has in view, thus enabling us to deliberate correctly. In this paper I review how the notion of gender is understood in psychiatry, specifically in the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). First, I examine the contraposition between sex and gender, and argue that it is still retained by DSM-5, even though with some caveats. Second, I claim that, even if genderqueer people are not pathologized and gender pluralism is the background assumption, some diagnostic criteria still conceal a residue of gender dualism and (...) essentialism. Third, I consider gender dysphoria, which is characterized by an incongruence between one’s experienced or expressed gender and one’s assigned gender; since this condition pertains to distress and disability, not to the incongruence per se, it does not pathologize transgender people. Still, I contend that it should be removed from DSM-5 for theoretical reasons. (shrink)

Research Ethics, Volume 18, Issue 3, Page 210-225, July 2022. Interview-based research in multilingual situations can present researchers with specific ethical challenges relating to language-based power play, data handling and presentation. Studies indicate favouring the L1 as an interviewing language may produce better quality data, but external pressures can favour English as the dominant research language. This article examines researcher perceptions and experiences of the ethical consequences of language choice and the practical issues involved. Interviews were conducted with five European (...) researchers working on an interview-based project with experiences of diverse interviewing scenarios. The four moral principles of respect for autonomy, justice, beneficence and non-maleficence were used as a framework for analysis. The analysis revealed a nuanced picture of ethical issues in both L1- and English-oriented scenarios. This included potential misrepresentation and deculturalisation of the data in the former, and language-based power asymmetries in the latter. The findings highlight the importance of documenting ethics-related methodological details of language use, and advocates publication practices favouring the inclusion and foregrounding of L1 data. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the media have repeatedly praised healthcare workers for their ‘heroic’ work. Although this gratitude is undoubtedly appreciated by many, we must be cautious about overuse of the term ‘hero’ in such discussions. The challenges currently faced by healthcare workers are substantially greater than those encountered in their normal work, and it is understandable that the language of heroism has been evoked to praise them for their actions. Yet such language can have potentially negative consequences. Here, I (...) examine what heroism is and why it is being applied to the healthcare workers currently, before outlining some of the problems associated with the heroism narrative currently being employed by the media. Healthcare workers have a clear and limited duty to treat during the COVID-19 pandemic, which can be grounded in a broad social contract and is strongly associated with certain reciprocal duties that society has towards healthcare workers. I argue that the heroism narrative can be damaging, as it stifles meaningful discussion about what the limits of this duty to treat are. It fails to acknowledge the importance of reciprocity, and through its implication that all healthcare workers have to be heroic, it can have negative psychological effects on workers themselves. I conclude that rather than invoking the language of heroism to praise healthcare workers, we should examine, as a society, what duties healthcare workers have to work in this pandemic, and how we can support them in fulfilling these. This research endeavors to introduce a novel concept in ethics, namely ethics based on the primacy of existence, drawing upon Aṣālat al-wujūd, the theory of the primacy of existence in ontology. Mullā Sadrā's philosophy, which has three basic tenets—the primacy of existence, substantial motion (Ḥarakat-i Juharī), and gradation in existence (Tashkīk-i wujūd)—is the basis for this doctrine. The primacy of existence holds that quiddity is a mental construct and that existence is fundamental. The writers distinguished between two conceptions of ethics (...) in this regard: one based on existence and the other on quiddity. Human quiddity is fixed and does not grade, hence ethics based on quiddity's primacy will always be fixed and the same for every individual. Moral obligations are universal and shared by all individuals. On the other hand, moral obligations for humans might vary depending on their existential status, according to ethics grounded in the primacy of existence. Moral oughts and ought nots are established by human existential grades in this ethics. This ethical model is flexible and dynamic. (shrink)

본 연구는 최근 행복담론에 대한 성찰을 토대로 초기불교에 나타난 행복의 의미와 추구 방법을 탐구함으로써 오늘날 행복담론의 방향성 정립에 도움을 주기 위한 것이다. 일반적으로 인생을 고(苦)라고 전제한 불교는 행복과 거리가 먼 사상으로 인식되지만, 초기불교에서는 인생의 목적이 행복, 즉 고(苦)를 극복하여 락(樂) 에 이르는 이고득락(離苦得樂)임을 분명히 하였다. 초기불교에서는 고(苦)의 원인은 갈애(渴愛)와 무명(無明)에 의한 번뇌이며, 행복은 이 번뇌심리를 극복함으로써얻어진다고 하였다. 갈애와 무명에서 생기는 번뇌심리를 극복하기 위하여 지속적으로 수행하여 행복에 도달하고자 하는 것이 이고득락의 구조이다. 초기불교에서는 행복을 현세적 행복과 궁극적 행복으로 구분하는데, 전자는 자신의 삶에서 (...) 최선을 다하고 선업을 쌓아 봉사하면서 삼매로 몸과 마음의 평안함을 유지하는 것이목표이고, 후자는 통찰지로 열반에 이르러 윤회를 끊는 것이 목표이다. 초기불교에서는 기쁨 혹은 희열을 뜻하는 ‘삐띠(pitī)’, 즐거움을 의미하는 ‘수카(suka)’, 사무량심(四無量心)의 희(喜)인 ‘무디타(muditā)’, 그리고 선업의 결과인 ‘망갈라(maṅgala)’ 등 행복의 심리상태를 나타내는 다양한 개념들이 등장한다. 초기불교에서는 행복에 이르는 구체적 방법으로 교학과 수행의 체계를 37보리분법으로 제시하였다. 사마타[定, 몰입] 수행으로 심해탈(心解脫)을 이루어 삼매의 경지에서 느끼는 열락(悅樂)이 행복이다. 그러나 여기서 그치지 않고 위빠사나[觀, 통찰] 수행으로 통찰지에 의한 인식의 변화, 즉 혜해탈(慧解脫)을 통해 열반(涅槃)에 이르는행복을 추구한다. 정서의 평안함과 인식의 전환을 통해 나의 행복에 도달하고, 궁극적으로는 나를 넘어 자비의 세계에 이르고자 하는데 여기서 대승불교로 이어지는 가교로서의 특성이 드러난다. 오늘날 행복의 맥락은 초기불교의 그것과 달라져서 초기불교에서 제시한 행복의 경지에 이르기는 것이 결코 쉽지는 않지만 정진과수행의 노력으로 얼마든지 가능하다. 초기불교의 행복담론이 주관적 측면의 행복에 초점을 둠으로써 객관적 조건과 환경의 변화에 대한 인간의 주체적 역할을 소홀히 하였다는 점에서는 아쉬움이 남는다. The concept of corporate social responsibility has been the subject of several academic contributions, but in the health sector the development of an interest in this subject is very recent. Although many practices in healthcare are already socially responsible, progressing from a series of socially responsible behaviours to a socially responsible organization entails a more consolidated awareness of the health sector’s mission and the needs of its participants. In this paper, we will review the different studies published that address the (...) relationship between the healthcare sector’s corporate responsibility and society, with the aims of individuating the prevailing foci that are emerging and categorizing the proposed contributions according to these foci: social responsibility and organization; social responsibility and social impact; social responsibility and competitiveness. Finally, the paper finishes with a personal definition of CSR and its correlated ethical roots. (shrink)

이 글은 현대의 디지털 미디어를 매클루언의 형식주의 매체철학적 논의 내에서는 일종 의 형용모순처럼 보이는 ‘촉각적이고 뜨거운 매체’로 해석할 근거를 셀리에의 스트레스 이 론과의 상관관계 속에서 찾고, 이러한 논의를 기반으로 그의 매체철학을 디지털 미디어 중 독에 대한 치료 이론으로 활용하는 것을 목표로 한다. 그리고 이러한 논의를 기반으로, 노 르베르트 볼츠와 같은 현대 매체철학자나 디지털 평론가 및 IT 기업들이 제시하고 있는 디 지털 미디어 중독을 해결하기 위한 방법론을 평가하는 것을 목표로 한다. 본 연구의 중심 주장은 다음과 같다. 매클루언과 셀리에 사이의 상관관계를 밝힐 (...) 경우, 주류 해석과 달리 매체가 인간 감각기관에 전달하는 자극의 정도, 즉 정세도는 그 매체에 대한 참여도와 반비례 관계를 반드시 맺지는 않는다. 즉, 여러 감각기관을 자극하면서도 높은 정세도를 가진 매체에 대한 논의가 가능하다는 것이다. 결론적으로, 매클루언을 셀리 에와의 연관관계 속에서 해석할 경우 디지털 매체를 다감각을 낮은 정세도로 자극하는 매 체가 아니라 촉각적이면서도 뜨거운 매체로 해석할 수 있다. 매클루언의 이론을 이렇게 해 석한다면, 그의 이론은 디지털 미디어 중독을 특정 미디어에 대한 병리적인 과집중, 과몰 입 현상으로 정의하고 있는 현대의 사회과학 및 실증연구와 배치되지 않을 뿐만 아니라, 여러 분야에서 제시되고 있는 디지털 미디어 중독 해결책을 평가하고 진단할 수 있는 툴 (Tool)로서 활용될 수 있을 것이다. The main research question that this paper aims to answer is: ‘In what does today’s attack on humanities consist and how can humanities be defended?’ In order to answer this research question, one needs first to describe how the humanities have argued for their usefulness before the Bologna Process; second, provide reasons for the claim that the Bologna Process would be a new type of attack; and third, analyse the new defences for the humanities, so as to discuss whether these (...) are suitable. The main finding of this study was to show that, before deciding what type of education society needs, we need to understand who we are educating through our universities. Taking a stance on “who should we educate?” is prior to being able to judge educational policies. This decision requires a previous justification that requires arguments taken from the field of social justice: Who needs to be educated and who has the right to be educated? Furthermore, we have seen that all answers we have examined to the question underlying educational policies, i.e. ‘who is being educated?’, were linked at some level with the citizenship issue. By defining who is a full citizen, an answer to the question who had the right to a humanistic education was implicitly answered. Nussbaum’s project to universalise the definition of democratic citizenship would ensure a basis for providing humanistic education for all. Such a line of arguing would provide humanities to the well-regarded status they had starting from the Renaissance times, but this time not as a device for exclusion, but inclusion for all. We have tried to show that, by defending the humanities, one defends the idea of a plurality of educational purposes, the right to build one’s life based on an education that is not submitted to the political goals of the day, ultimately the right to have a dissenting voice and a different perspective on life. By defending humanities, one defends the true ‘usefulness’ of education, namely its potential for constructing democratic citizenship for all. (shrink)

이 논문은 이해가 지식으로 환원되지 않는 별개의 인지적 상태임을 주장한다. 이를 위해 우리는 이해의 정도가 지식의 양으로 환원된다는 지식량 환원주의를 비판적으로 검토하고, 특히 지식량 환원주의의 한 요소인 지식량 필요성 논제에 대한 반례를 제시한다. 지식량 필요성 논제에 대한 기존의 반례들, 즉 프리처드의 잘못된 배선 사례와 윌켄펠드와 헬먼의 체스 관전자 사례는 이해의 정도를 달리하는 두 사람이 동일한 양의 지식을 가지고 있음을 보이는 데 실패했기에 적절한 반례가 되지 못한다. 우리는 이러한 한계를 극복하는 새로운 반례로서 도형 패턴 문제 사례를 제시한다. 이 사례에서 응시자들은 문제와 (...) 유관한 지식을 동일하게 가지면서도 상이한 이해의 정도를 가지므로, 지식량 필요성 논제에 대한 적절한 반례가 된다. 이 글의 목적은 한나 아렌트와 아이리스 영의 이론을 중심으로 사회적 약자의 정치적 의 사소통을 위하여 민주주의 사회가 고려해야 할 사항이 무엇인지 검토해 보는 것에 있다. 아 렌트는 특수한 정체성의 차이를 인정하는 가운데, 공적 삶과 공공의 가치를 중시하는 보편 적 소통을 중시하였다. 그녀는 공론장에 참여한 모두가 동등한 입장으로 의견교환을 통해 ‘민주적 공공성’을 형성해 간다고 보았지만, 여기에서 참여자들이 겪을 수 있는 경제적 여 건의 어려움이나 ‘담론 자원’의 격차를 염두에 두지 않았다는 점은 한계로 지적된다. 이에 비해 영은 사회적 약자 입장에서 ‘정의’와 ‘민주주의’를 논의한 (...) 철학자이자 페미니즘 이론가 로서, 분배적 패러다임에서 분명히 드러나지 않는 ‘구조적인 부정의’에 주목한다. 그녀는 억압과 지배를 교정하는 ‘차이의 정치’와 ‘소통적 민주주의’를 제안하며, 의사결정에 관여하 고 영향을 받는 모든 특정하고 구체적인 사회집단들에게 목소리와 표결권을 확실하게 보장 하는 제도로서의 민주주의를 옹호한다. 이 글은 약자의 입장에서 의사소통이 더 유리하게 이루어져야 한다고 주장하지는 않는다. 그러나 다양한 관점의 공존이라는 측면에서 그들의 공론장의 진입과 목소리가 배제되지 않는 것에 대한 적극적인 고려가 필요하며, 소통적 민 주주의를 향한 구체적인 실천으로서 ‘정치적 책임’과 ‘연대’가 중요하다고 주장할 것이다. 정보사회 혹은 지식기반사회에서 지식과 정보, 지식과 삶의 관계는 새롭게 변화한다. 지식과 정보의 소유가 곧 자본으로 연결되는 사회에서 도구적 이성을 실현하는 실용적 학문에 대학과 학생들이 관심을 집중하는 것은 어찌 보면 당연한 흐름일 수 있다. 그러나 정보사회에서 현실은 다소 다른 방향을 향하고 있다. 도구적 이성에 기반한 기술 집약적 산업의 발달과 정보사회로의 진입은 역설적으로 새로운 인문 정신을 요구한다. 이 때 대학에서 철학의 역할은, 그 자체로 인문 융복합적인 함축을 갖는, 리버럴 아츠 정신을 기반으로 비판적이고 탁월한 인간을 길러내는 데 있다. 취업이나 창업을 목표로 하는 대학생들, (...) 혹은 자신만의 가능성에 도전하는 청년들에게 필요한 대학 교육은 지금 당장 사용 가능한 지식보다는 평생을 두고 부딪혀야할 문제들을 헤쳐 나갈 수 있는 깊이 있는 지혜의 교육이며, 이를 담지하는 것은 인문학이자 철학이다.BR 이 글은 이러한 문제의식을 기반으로 국내외 인문 융복합 철학 교육 사례를 중심으로 학문간 융복합과 철학의 역할을 살펴보았다. 해외 사례로는 뉴욕 시립 대학교 퀸즈 칼리지에서 운영하고 있는 “경영과 인문학 과정(Business and Liberal Arts, BALA Course)”을 살펴보았다. BALA 코스는 인문학과 경영학을 융합한 과정으로, 경영학을 부전공으로 이수하고 졸업 후 관련 직종으로 진출하고자 하는 학생들에게 관련 직종에서 요구되는 인문학적 직무 역량을 함양할 수 있는 교육 프로그램을 제공한다. 퀸즈 칼리지의 BALA 코스는 중소형 규모의 대학이 갖는 강점들을 결합한 인문 융복합 철학 교육 프로그램을 운영하고 있다는 점에서 주목할 만하다.BR 국내 사례로는 우선 부산외국어대학교 만오교양대학에서 운영하고 있는 “아르케 아너프로그램(AHP)”을 살펴보았다. AHP는 교양교육 이념으로서 아르케 교양의 심화 교육을 위해 철학을 중심으로 자체 교육 프로그램을 진행하고 있으며, 이 과정을 이수한 학생에게는 AHP 학사학위를 부여한다. AHP 과정을 이수하는 학생들은 담당 교수의 지도 하에 개인별 학습 로드맵을 작성할 수 있으며, 심화된 교과 및 비교과 프로그램에 참여하는 특전을 얻는다. 다음으로 “대학 인문역량 강화사업(CORE 사업)” 중에서 “인문기반 융합전공”이 운용하는 철학 및 인문학 과정을, 교과목을 중심으로, 살펴보았다. 이 사업의 목적에 따라 융합전공을 이수하는 학생들은 교양 과목보다 심화된 인문학적 소양, 특히 철학적 사고력과 통찰력을 함양할 수 있다. 국내 사례로 소개한 이 두 프로그램을 아직 초기 단계이기 때문에 그 성과를 검토하기는 어렵지만, 정부와 대학의 장기적인 전망 속에서 지속적인 관심과 지원이 요구된다. 이 논문의 목적은 장자가 전략적으로 전체의 상징적 비유를 통해 사람들이 점 진적으로 마음을 비우도록 하고 있음을 밝히는 것이다. 첫 단락의 붕과 작은 새는 삶의 형태가 사람들에게 천양지차로 다를지라도 단순하게 욕망을 쫓는다는 점에서 사람을 동 물로 격하시켜 이야기한 것이다. 그 다음 단락의 송영자와 열자는 욕망을 벗어던지려고 수행 한다는 점에서 사람을 사람으로 언급한 것이다. 그 다음 단락의 요와 허유는 임금 자리마저도 서로 양보할 정도로 사람다운 사람들이라는 점에서 성왕이나 현인을 빌어 표현한 것이다. 그 다음 단락의 막고야산의 신인은 사람이 사람답게 되면 세상을 떠나 흔적 (...) 없이 산다는 점에서 신선으로 말한 것이다. 의 기괴하고 신비한 이야기 전개는 마지막 단락 ‘무하유지 향’으로 마무리되니, 그것은 전체를 ‘마음 비움’으로 매듭짓기 위함이다. 장자는 사람들이 마음을 비우도록 상징적 비유를 통해 아주 교묘하게 그 이야기를 전개 했다. 이런 점에서 붕을 비상하는 성인으로 보는 것은 장자의 의도를 어기는 것이고, 또 장 자의 문장 전개 방식과 맞지 않는 것이다. 장자가 붕과 작은 새를 가지고 욕망에 찌든 인간 군상의 상징으로 표현한 것은 욕망에서 벗어나려고 노력해야 사람이 된다는 복선이다. 사람 으로 표현되는 송영자 열자를 거쳐 요 허유를 등장시킨 것은 사람다운 사람의 완성을 상 징적으로 비유하기 위함이다. 이어서 흔적 없이 사는 신인이 등장하는 것도 결국 성인이나 현인이라는 이름까지 모두 버려야 한다는 상징적 암시이다. 마지막의 무하유지향은 마음을 비운 그곳이 우리의 낙원이라고 장자가 자신의 입으로 직접 강조하는 것이다. 이 글은 이런 점을 염두에 두고 를 읽을 때, 장자의 의도를 더 깊이 완미할 수 있도록 하기 위함 이다.
