The introduction (pp. 7-29) discusses Nazi denigration of "Jewish philosophy, " from Spinoza to Bergson and Husserl, and the elevation of "German" philosophers, particularly Eckhart and Nietzsche, to the role of forerunners of Nazism. The chapters on the work of the four Jewish philosophers mention briefly their murder by the Nazis (in the case of Benjamin, his death while fleeing the Nazis).

Attempts a philosophical and critical investigation of Marx's analysis of value to suggest an ontological basis for a general theory of value.

Poppers Logik der Forschung steht für eine erhebliche Problemverschiebung in der Wissenschaftstheorie, von der Logik der Forschung zur Verfassung der Wissenschaft. Popper sieht die Methodologie als eine Institution, als ein Regelsystem für die Akzeptanz oder Verwerfung von Theorien und Beobachtungsaussagen. Dieser immer noch wenig beachtete institutionelle Aspekt von Poppers kritischem Rationalismus ist zum einen für die Interpretation der methodologischen Regeln von Bedeutung. Zum anderen wirft er ein neues Problem auf: Kann sich eine solche Methodologie als Verfassung der Wissenschaft etablieren? Eine (...) institutionenökonomische Analyse des wissenschaftlichen Wettbewerbs zeigt, dass eine notwendige Bedingung dafür erfüllt ist: die Methodologie des kritischen Rationalismus ist anreizkompatibel, das heißt, es liegt im Interesse eines Forschers, diese Methodologie zu beachten, wenn er erwartet, dass die anderen Forscher ebenso verfahren. Hans Albert war zu Beginn meines Studiums im Jahre 1959 an der Universität zu Köln wissenschaftlicher Assistent am Lehrstuhl von Gerhard Weisser in der wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Fakultät. Die Namen der vielen Assistenten kannte man nur dann, wenn Sie Lehrveranstaltungen hielten oder wenn sie eigene Arbeiten betreuten. Trotzdem erfuhr ich von Hans Albert und seinen von der herrschenden Lehre abweichenden Ansichten schon zu Beginn meines Studiums. Wie sich bald zeigte, schienen die von ihm vertretenen Ansichten eine Reihe von Problemen zu (...) lösen, die wir – eine Gruppe von Studierenden – diskutierten. Um dies zu zeigen, sei kurz die Situation an der wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Universität Köln beschrieben. (shrink)

Vittorio Hösle has made the attempt to justify objective idealism by using the method proposed by Karl Otto Apel. By analysing the logical structure of his argument it is shown that this attempt has completely failed. All steps of the argument depend on conceptual confusion and other mistakes.

The complex problems facing developing countries have often been attributed to the tendency of their people to maintain traditional beliefs and practices. Many contemporary philosophers have criticized traditional thought for failing to match the levels of efficiency and effectiveness achieved by modern science. However, other contemporary philosophers have suggested that modern science embodies tendencies that are as likely to exacerbate as relieve the problems of the developing world. I conclude that philosophers must be as wary of modern practices and beliefs (...) as they are of traditional practices and beliefs. Modernity rather than tradition is undoubtably a principal source of Africa's problems. A Teoria da Ação Comunicativa e a Filosofia da Libertação são analisadas comparativamente com base em elementos da teoria de Karl Mannheim sobre ideologia e utopia. Os elementos. contrapostos são os seguintes: a avaliação da realidade atual, a nova realidade utópica projetada, a conceitualização das condições teóricas e das condições práticas, bem como a definição dos portadores ·da mudança social.. Uma teoria elaborada da ação social e da sociedade, mas de capacidade explicativa restrita à sua situação de origem, em (...) Habermas, contrasta- se em Dussel com a aguçada elaboração de categorias para a análise dos mecanismos econômicos de dominação locais e internacionais, associada à ausência de uma teoria que permita operacionalizar alternativas de mudança social efetiva.
