Traditional theism says that the goodness of everything comes from God. Moreover, the goodness of something intrinsically valuable can only come from what has it. Many conclude from these two claims that no creatures have intrinsic value if traditional theism is true. I argue that the exemplarist theory of the divine ideas gives the theist a way out. According to exemplarism, God creates everything according to ideas that are about himself, and so everything resembles God. The question is: how shall we conceive the idea of justice in the world of violence of our time? It takes up the old symbol of justice: the scales that symbolise an equilibrium between different ambitions. The author traces this idea in Western philosophy since Plato and Aristotle through Kant to Rawls, Ricoeur and Delmas-Marty for whom it becomes the symbol of global justice. By using the wind rose as another symbol, Delmas-Marty expresses the ethical necessity of a global justice (...) between the philosophical, legal, social and political ambitions that blow across our whole world. La Comission européenne a soutenu, de 1995 à 1998, le programme de recherche intitulé « Les principes éthiques de base en bioéthique et en bio-droit européens ». Le projet était basé sur la collaboration de 22 partenaires issus de la plupart des pays de l’Union européenne. L’objectif du projet était d’identifier les principes éthiques d’autonomie, de dignité, d’intégrité et de vulnérabilité comme étant les quatre idées et valeurs majeures de la bioéthique et du biodroit européens. Les Propositions et les recommandations (...) à la Commission européenne – la Déclaration de Barcelone de 1998 – constitue un résumé important du projet BIOMED. Cette déclaration est unique dans son genre car elle représente l’unanimité philosophique et politique des experts en bioéthique et en biodroit de nombreux pays. Dans ce texte, nous souhaitons comparer la Déclaration de Barcelone avec quelques nouveaux documents en bioéthique et en biodroit internationaux. Nous situerons la Déclaration de Barcelone dans le cadre proposé par les différents documents internationaux et les règlements relatifs à l’action dans le domaine de la bioéthique et du biodroit. Nous examinerons tout particulièrement les similitudes et les différences par rapport à la « Convention pour la protection des droits de l’homme et la dignité de l’être humain à l’égard des applications de la biologie et de la médecine », adoptée en 1996 par le Conseil des ministres. Enfin, nous étudierons la « Déclaration sur le génome humain » de l’Unesco de 1997. Donc, la Déclaration de Barcelone ne représente pas seulement les principes éthiques européens en matière de bioéthique et de biodroit, mais éclaire et articule les principes éthiques de base se trouvant au coeur de l’intérêt international pour une bioéthique et un biodroit universels. Le but de cet article est de montrer pourquoi les sciences humaines sont plus nécessaires que jamais dans le cadre de l'enseignement à l'Université dans notre âge cosmopolite contemporaine. Nous avons besoin des sciences humaines, si nos établissements d'enseignement sont engagé à surmonter les menaces de politiciens bornés et des exécutifs afin de réduire l'éducation dans les écoles et les universités à une simple instruction en gestion sans orientation des cultures du monde exprimée dans l'art et la littérature, la connaissance (...) de langues, d'histoire et de la philosophie. Par conséquent, j'utilise les travaux théoriques de Paul Ricœur par rapport aux institutions d’éducation justes et éthiques, comme point de départ de ces arguments. . (shrink)

Ce livre a d'abord ete concu pour faire connaitre la philosophie de Levinas a un public scandinave qui, en ce siecle, a ete fortement marque, pour le meilleur et pour le pire, par l'esprit positiviste et analytique. Il s'efforce donc d'ouvrir tout un monde de pensee a des lecteurs et a des lectrices qui, a premiere vue, ne peuvent que le trouver tres etrange. C'est pourquoi, dans le but de mieux faire comprendre comment l'oeuvre de Levinas s'est elaboree, l'ouvrage commence (...) par situer le philosophe par rapport aux penseurs qui l'ont influence. Systems for color naming across languages have been a fascinating topic for decades. Zaslavsky and colleagues challenge Gibson's argument that color names are shaped by patterns of communicative need. It is commonly believed that Edmund Husserl (1859-1938), well known as the founder of phenomenology and as the teacher of Heidegger, was unable to free himself from the framework of a classical metaphysics of subjectivity. Supposedly, he never abandoned the view that the world and the Other are constituted by a pure transcendental subject, and his thinking in consequence remains Cartesian, idealistic, and solipsistic. The continuing publication of Husserl’s manuscripts has made it necessary to revise such an interpretation. Drawing upon (...) both Husserl’s published works and posthumous material, Husserl’s Phenomenology incorporates the results of the most recent Husserl research.
