Le volume que les éditions Albin Michel viennent de publier (2021) sous le titre : Friedrich Dürrenmatt, Œuvres complètes. Tome 1, pose problème. Il est peu probable que le projet de l’éditeur soit de proposer une traduction française des trente-sept volumes de l’édition allemande. Par ailleurs, la traduction déjà ancienne (des années 1950 et 1960) des quatre romans de ce volume s’avère difficile et trahit souvent, sous divers angles, les textes originaux de l’auteur alémanique.

Sont présentés les cinq tomes récemment publiés (2021) du Stoffe-Projekt, un immense chantier littéraire (30 000 pages dans les archives) qui a occupé Dürrenmatt pendant plus de vingt ans, jusqu’à sa mort. Tout en réfléchissant aux difficultés que cela représente, le dramaturge et penseur y développe une sorte d’autobiographie intellectuelle, où les souvenirs personnels alternent avec des considérations philosophiques et d’anciens matériaux littéraires qui continuent de l’habiter, réécrits et évalués du point de vue de leur signification pour son œuvre, mais (...) aussi de leur valeur existentielle et humaine. Partant des deux textes parus en 1963 dans la Revue de Théologie et de Philosophie, dans lesquels Ric�ur rend compte de sa lecture de Kierkegaard et de l�héritage qu�il estime y trouver, cet article entreprend d�éclairer le rapport entre ces deux philosophes. Alors même que Ric�ur souligne à plusieurs reprises l�importance de son ancêtre danois, il est frappant de voir que, mis à part les deux textes de 1963, ce dernier n�occupe qu�une place très discrète dans l�oeuvre de son «héritier». Bien des difficultés que nous éprouvons à comprendre les oeuvres philosophiques des Anciens proviennent souvent du fait que nous commmettons en les interprétant un double anachronisme: nous croyons que, comme beaucoup d'oeuvres modernes, elles sont destinées à communiquer des informations concernant un contenu conceptuel donné et que nous pouvons aussi en tirer directement des renseignements clairs sur la pensée et la psychologie de leur auteur. Mais en fait, elles sont très souvent des exercices spirituels que l'auteur pratique lui-même et fait (...) pratiquer à son lecteur. Elles sont destinées à former les âmes. Many common arguments for physicalism begin with the principle that the cosmos is “causally closed.” But how good are the arguments for causal closure itself? I argue that the deductive, a priori arguments on behalf of causal closure tend to beg the question. The extant inductive arguments fare no better. They commit a sampling error or a non-sequitur, or else offer conclusions that remain compatible with causal openness. The meaning of the term logagogy is elucidated, and logagogic practices are outlined in the history of medicine. It is shown how the traditional medicine of India, Ayurveda, shows signs of logagogic practices(sattvavajaya), and that not only Ayurveda but also the famous Greek physician Galenus emphasize a philosophical approach to medicine. As Galenus’s logagogic practices have their roots in the tradition of practical philosophy in Greek antiquity, the most important Greek schools of thought that are relevant to logagogic approaches are (...) sketched. It is shown that the Stoics created a rationalistic system emphasizing the importance of the logos for human beings, and that Epicurus made advances in psychoeducation and cognitive reframing that are important for logagogic practices. These logagogic approaches of antiquity have been taken up by modern counseling in philosophical practices. The article closes with an outline of a clinical logagogy. (shrink)

Issues of academic integrity, specifically knowledge of, perceptions and attitudes toward plagiarism, are well documented in post-secondary settings using case studies for specific courses, recording discourse with focus groups, analyzing cross-cultural education philosophies, and reviewing the current literature. In this paper, the authors examine the perceptions of graduate students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines at the University of Florida regarding misconduct and integrity issues. Results revealed students’ perceptions of the definition and seriousness of potential academic misconduct, knowledge of (...) institutional procedures, and views on faculty actions, all with a focus on divergences between US and internationally-educated students. The open-ended questions provide anecdotal evidence to highlight personal experiences, positive and negative, aimed at the faculty, international students and undergraduates. Combined, these findings outline an important part of the campus academic integrity culture at a major American university. Recommendations for local actions also are discussed. (shrink)

The article will bring some theoretical considerations to be applied to a study of the goal‐structure of human life.One of the theoretical questions in which this study is interested concerns the origin of the different goals and goal‐changes during life. Synthesizing forty years' work by France's leading sociologist, this book exemplifies Bourdieu's unique ability to link sociological theory, historical information, and philosophical thought. It makes explicit the presuppositions of a state of 'scholasticism', a certain leisure liberated from the urgencies of the world. Philosophers have brought these presuppositions into the order of discourse, more to legitimate than analyze them, and this is the primary systematic, epistemological, ethical, and aesthetic error that Bourdieu subjects to methodological critique. Pascalian because he, too, was (...) concerned with symbolic power, he refused the temptation of foundationalist thinking, attended to 'ordinary people', and was determined to seek the reason for seemingly illogical behavior rather than simply condemning it. Bourdieu charts a negative philosophy, whose intellectual debt to such other 'heretical' philosophers as Wittgenstein, Austin, Dewey, and Peirce, renews traditional questioning of concepts of violence, power, time, history, the universal, and the purpose and direction of existence.
