W ramach semantyk Kripkego dla języków modalnych wartość logiczna zdania może zmieniać się wraz ze zmianą parametru indeksu semantycznego. Oznacza to, że stosując tego typu semantykę do analizy zdań języka naturalnego, musimy wskazać indeks istotny dla analizy semantycznej. Zwykło się przyjmować, że odpowiedni indeks jest ustalany przez kontekst wypowiedzi. Pomysł ten został odrzucony przez semantyków analizujących języki temporalno-modalne w kontekście indeterminizmu, co wygenerowało problem ustalania indeksu. W artykule przedstawię argument owych semantyków, a następnie zarysuję kilka odpowiedzi na problem (...) ustalania indeksu. Ostatecznie będę argumentował, że przy pewnych założeniach metafizycznych i semantycznych można udzielić klasycznej odpowiedzi na problem ustalania indeksu również w kontekstach indeterministycznych. From a formal point of view, the nihilistic propositional calculi, called in this text „npc”, are such propositional calculi that include three unary propositional conectives: T, F, ~, and one binary propositional connective ≡. They read respectively: true, false, untrue that, if and only if. Their theorems are, mong other things, such expressions as: Tp ≡ p, Fp ≡ ~p, with p being a propositional variable. The four npc are presented in this work, i.e. on two-valued, two three-valued, and one (...) four-valued. Moreover, two of them are also paraconsistent calculi. Npc are constructed by means of the axiomatic method. Following the presentation of npc axioms, the four so called n-algebras are introduced. The npc axioms are proved to be adequate to appropriate n-algebras, i.e. sets of theorems and tautologies of each npc are identical. (shrink)

The paper concerns the semantics of belief reports. The following definition is proposed: if rational agent x does not accept any sentence, which is true under x’s interpretation of expressions iff not-p, and x does not reject any sentence, which is true under x’s interpretation iff p, then (x believes that p iff x accepts  which is true under x’s interpretation iff p). The term ‘x’s interpretation of an expression e’ is to be understood: something which x actually refers (...) to by using e (rather than a object she intends to refer). This is to say that to ascribe a belief to rational agent one should use words which have the same reference as words used by the agent. We believe it could solve Krpike’s puzzles about belief on the price that sometimes names used by the agent refer to others entities than when we use them. (shrink)

Artykuł nawiązuje do jednej z najbardziej intensywnych dyskusji we współczesnej filozofii języka, jaką jest spór o zasięg i charakter wpływu kontekstu wypowiedzi na znaczenie użytych w niej wyrażeń, gdzie kontekst jest rozumiany bardzo ogólnie, jako „zewnętrzne okoliczności, które wykorzystywane są przez uczestników sytuacji komunikacyjnej do określenia pewnej własności pewnej jednostki językowej”. Jest to w istocie spór o autonomię semantyki. Spornymi stanowiskami w toczonej debacie są kontekstualizm i minimalizm semantyczny. Zaproponowane ujęcie wypowiedzi jako celowego i racjonalnego aktu komunikacji, w którym wyrażenie (...) językowe i kontekst stanowią odrębne źródła informacji będącej przedmiotem interpretacji wypowiedzi, pozwoliło bardziej szczegółowo określić rolę kontekstu i znaczenia językowego w determinowaniu treści wypowiedzi. Z tej perspektywy została przeprowadzona analiza wypowiedzi zdania ‘Jan jest wysoki’ w trzech różnych kontekstach, co pozwoliło lepiej ocenić siłę argumentów badanych stanowisk. Rozważania zostały przeprowadzone jako próba obrony minimalizmu semantycznego, który utrzymuje, że grupa wyrażeń, których znaczenia zależą od kontekstu, ogranicza się do typowych wyrażeń okazjonalnych. Wpływ kontekstu na wyrażenia spoza tej grupy zaznacza się jedynie na płaszczyźnie pragmatycznej. Procesy pragmatyczne nie zmieniają znaczenia językowego wyrażeń użytych do sformułowania wypowiedzi, a jedynie wpływają na interpretację wypowiedzi. Zdania języka po usunięciu typowych wyrażeń okazjonalnych wyrażają sądy minimalne i nie wymagają dodatkowej informacji kontekstowej. Minimalizm semantyczny pozostaje w opozycji do stanowiska kontekstualizmu głoszącego, że niemal wszystkie wyrażenia języka naturalnego są wrażliwe na kontekst, który moduluje ich znaczenie na poziomie semantycznym. Zgodnie ze stanowiskiem kontekstualizmu zdania języka, takie jak np. ‘Jan jest wysoki’, nie mają określonych warunków prawdziwości, gdyż warunki prawdziwości można przypisać tylko konkretnym wypowiedziom, a nie zdaniom rozumianym jako wyrażenia językowe. Przeprowadzona analiza użycia w różnych kontekstach zdania należącego do spornej grupy dostarcza argumentów na rzecz minimalizmu semantycznego. Pokazuje ona, że zarówno samo słowo ‘wysoki’ posiada pewną treść wspólną dla wszystkich kontekstów i odniesień, jak też zdanie ‘Jan jest wysoki’ formułuje pewien sąd minimalny o określonych warunkach prawdziwości. Poddawane są także dyskusji szczegółowe kwestie z zakresu filozofii religii (m.in. problem wszechmocy). The paper presents seven nihilistic functional calculi (NFC), founded on nihilistic propositional calculi. NFC are characterized from the syntactic and semantic points of view. For each of NFC both points of view are proved to define the same sets of formulas.

The Principle of Compositionality is the principle stating that the meaning of an expression is a function of (and only of) the meanings of its parts together with the method by which those parts are combined. The paper concerns the relationship between this principle and the phenomenon of context dependence. In a compositional language, it seems, the meaning of an expression depends upon the meanings of its parts in a bottom-up fashion, so some philosophers (e.g. Fodor&Lepore) argued that compositionality places (...) a context-independence constraint on the properties of lexical meanings. However, some others philosphers (e.g. Szabo, Recanati) don’t see context--dependence as a challenge to the compositionality of language. This poses questions about the methodological status of the principle of compositionality, possible justifications of the principle, and various constraints on language required by compositional semantics. In the article I propose a version of the principle of compositionality which can help us deal with the phenomenon of context dependence. Then I investigate its formal representation and the effective arguments from context-dependence against thus formulated principle of contextual compositionality. The last part of the article concerns the relationship between the computability of a function and the compositional interpretation of a sentence. (shrink)

Potrzeba uzasadnienia zdań w sensie logicznym pŀynie z faktu, iż uznają one swą funkcją stwierdzenia zachodzenie stanu rzeczy, wyznaczonego przez ich sens, i to zachodzenie niezależne od nich samych, a zarazem jako twory czysto sygnitywne (językowe) nie są zdolne pokazać bezpośrednio tego zachodzącego stanu rzeczy.Uzasadnienie pośrednie przez odwoŀanie się do innych zdań, które tymi samymi cechami się odznaczają i same z natury swej wymagają uzasadnienia, nie może być nigdy definitywne i jako takie domaga się uzupeŀnienia przez uzasadnienie “bezpośrednie”.Uzasadnienie (...) bezpośrednie może być uzyskane jedynie w aktach bezpośredniego doświadczenia, tzn. w aktach, w których przedmiot poznania jest dany samoosobiście.Należy odróżnić dwa rozumienia “uzasadnienia”:uzasadnienie “ontyczne”: jest nim zachodzący niezależnie od zdaniastan rzeczy zgodny w swej zawartości, formie i sposobie zachodzenia z tym, jakim go wyznacza uzasadniane zdanie. Uzasadnienie w tym znaczeniu jestbytową podstawą prawdziwości zdania i przez swe zachodzenie konstytuuje tę prawdziwość. Każdy sąd prawdziwy jest ipso facto w tym znaczeniu “uzasadniony”, a każdy w tym znaczeniu uzasadniony jest prawdziwy, ale “być prawdziwym” i “stanowić podstawę prawdziwości” zdania to dwie różne, choć przynależne do siebie sprawy.“Uzasadnienie” w rozumieniu pewnejoperacji poznawczej (“uzasadniania”) wykazuje zachodzenie stanu rzeczy będącego podstawą ontyczną prawdziwości pewnego zdania.Uzasadnianie przez odwoŀanie się do tzw. “doświadczenia” dokonuje się przy jednostkowych zdaniach kategorycznych a zarazem empirycznych przez odwoŀanie się do odpowiedniego spostrzeżenia zewnętrznego lub wewnętrznego, w którym przedmiot oznaczony przez przedmiot zdania uzasadnianego dany jest a zarazem spostrzeżony w cesze przypisywanej mu w danym zdaniu. Jednakże samo to spostrzeżenie nie wystarcza, trzeba bowiem dokonać na podŀożu tego spostrzeżenia przedjęzykowo przebiegającej predykacji, która dopiero prowadzi do utworzenia odpowiedniego zdania. Stwierdzenie tożsamości sensu zdania uzasadnianego i zdania utworzonego w procesie uzasadniania na podstawie wymienionych czynności poznawczych jest końcową fazą procesu, w którym dany sąd jednostkowy kategoryczny staje się empirycznie uzasadniony.W końcowej części artykuŀu omówiono szereg trudności, jakie przy uzasadnianiu sądów wzmiankowanego typu się nasuwają. Zarówno Popper jak i Tarski żywo interesowali się filozofią, ale obaj odebrali też akademickie wyksztalcenie matematyczne. Podobny był przedmiot ich głównych zainteresowań: obaj analizowali teorie naukowe. Popper zajmował się metodologią nauk empirycznych, natomiast Tarski badaniami systemów dedukcyjnych. Popper ponadto uprawiał filozofię i wielokrotnie (...) wyrażał swoje stanowisko w kwestiach filozoficznych. Inaczej było z Tarskim: zasadniczo unikał wypowiadania się na tematy filozoficzne, będąc bardzo ostrożnym w wyciąganiu wniosków natury światopoglądowej z logiki, co nie przeszkadzało, że rezultaty jego badań logicznych uznawane były przez wielu, w tym również przez Poppera, za brzemienne w konsekwencje filozoficzne. Obaj byli, każdy w swojej dziedzinie, myślicielami oryginalnymi, więcej - wybitnymi i obaj aktywnie uczestniczyli w życiu naukowym swoich czasów. Kiedy w latach 30. zbliżyli się do Koła Wiedeńskiego, zarówno Popper jak i Tarski zaznaczyli swoją odrębność wobec koncepcji głoszonych przez jego członków. W niniejszym artykule pragnę zwrócić uwagę nauczycieli języków obcych na wykorzystanie w procesie nauczania języków obcych autentycznych informacji prasowych, które umożliwiają uczącym się poznawanie języka obcego w naturalnym kontekście kulturowym i socjoznawczym. Teksty te, poruszając konkretne aktualne problemy i wydarzenia, dostarczają nie tylko faktów, lecz również argumentów i kontrargumentów, zachęcających do dyskusji, wymiany zdań i poglądów na dany temat. Są one tym samym przyczynkiem do rozwoju obcojęzycznej kompetencji komunikacyjnej, tak ważnej w praktykowanej obecnie w nauczaniu języków (...) obcych metodzie komunikacyjnej. Praca z autentycznym tekstem prasowym jest wyzwaniem nie tylko dla uczącego się, lecz również dla nauczyciela, i ze względu na specyficzny charakter języka publicystyki, oraz specyfikę danego rodzaju tekstu jest możliwa w grupach na poziomie zaawansowanym, w klasach z rozszerzonym programem nauczania danego języka obcego. Włączenie autentycznych tekstów prasowych do nauczania języka obcego nie oznacza jednocześnie konieczności rezygnacji z podręcznika. Teksty te mogą być dodatkowymi materiałami i pomocami w procesie nauczania, zapewniającymi progresję w zakresie sprawności językowej. Dzięki swej autentyczności wpływają motywująco na uczących się i uatrakcyjniają przebieg lekcji. Konfrontacja uczącego się z tekstem prasowym ma nie tylko znaczenie w trakcie procesu instytucjonalnego nauczania języka obcego, lecz również poza nim lub nawet po zakończeniu tego procesu. Praca z autentycznym tekstem prasowym to nauka selektywnego czytania, rozróżnianie ważnych i mniej ważnych treściowo słów i elementów danego tekstu, a także odwołanie się do wiedzy encyklopedycznej, wiedzy o świecie uczących się, ich inteligencji i zdolności logicznego myślenia. Jest to niewątpliwie zadanie dla ambitnych nauczycieli i ich ambitnych uczniów. (shrink)

Brak konkretnych przykładów w przedstawianiu argumentów św. Tomasza sprawia wrażenie aprioryzmu. W sumie książka Wiedzieć, ze jest Bóg nie wydaje się być ostatnim słowem w filozofii Boga, ale może być materiałem do dalszych przemyśleń. The article deals with the culture as a complex of values, characteristics, norms, knowledge and things. The attention is drawn to the fact that the atmosphere of cultural genesis and human being’s openness is provided by the values and cultural norms, art, morals, and spiritual sphere achievements. The article analyzes the myth as the basis of the culture and world perception, as a unity of various phenomena and processes diversity. The author proves the idea that different types of the myth (...) structure the world in various ways. It depends on the type of the society in which these myths exist. It has to be said that the myths also adapt the world to the personality providing specific perception of the reality. Myth is viewed as an area in which the need for meaning and stability, considered to be the integral parts of the human life, is realized. It is proved conceptually that the formation of modern socio-cultural space requires the re-evaluation and improvement of the personality, which is impossible without culture. In this context a problem of socio-cultural environment is of specific concern. The ideas of personality’s spirituality and self-sufficiency formation cooperate in this environment. The attention is drawn to the fact that the culture itself is an important part of this area, as it is a complex of the human society achievements and living conditions that meet the needs of an educated person. The article researches the idea that despite the fact that culture is a complex interactive and integral unity of material and spiritual activities, it is the education which helps to realize the type of culture, multiculturalism and options of personality’s cultural development. Thus their impact on the personality is evident and the ways to use them are researched. The culture and education are viewed as areas through which the process of the personality’s full development and formation takes place. This is the way how the human being, who is capable for the implementation and development of the experience accumulated by the mankind, is formed. The article proves the fact education envolves a person in the system of socially significant values, it forms the universal behavioral patterns and promotes the assimilation of human values. Taking into account the personality’s requests and social factors, it is extremely important for the modern education to find optimal conditions for the harmonization of relations between the individual and society, man and nature. This harmonization promotes the emergence and development of all physical and spiritual powers of the human being. Mentioned above features activate a new type of world perception and system of values, which are impossible without understanding the ways of the modern man’s spiritual culture. We consider spirituality a certain level of the hierarchy of values of human’s attitudes toward the world. The growing importance of the spiritual sphere and the intensive development of public areas are determined by the intensification of science and industry. The attention is drawn to the fact that it is the spirituality which directs a person to self-perfection and self-realization as a free disclosure of the personality in the process of the multi-faceted activity. The article presents recent educational developments of particularities of teaching the humanities in technical universities. The philosophical and anthropological priorities and innovations in shaping the scientific outlook of future oil and gas industry professionals are revealed. It has been proved that modernization and reform of education in the humanities, particularly those that are taught while training students majoring in engineering require constant improvements and aestheticization. In general complex of the human sciences aesthetics has proved to be the "culture of values", (...) and aesthetic dimensions reach the deepest essence of a human as generic being, pointing to his/her uniqueness and value. Art is often associated with the consciousness of mankind. The existence of different viewpoints, opinions, positions that can not be united in a single conglomerate are appropriately reflected in the combination of different ideas, trends and directions that show the complexity, contradictions, chaos and antinomic character of modern era. In this context, by updating the aesthetic ideas of philosophy the establishment of new methodological principles takes place. Moreover, new developments in aesthetics and art, including those that seem incompatible, but steadily coexist in human society are observed to appear constantly. One should deeply penetrate into the essence of the occurring phenomena, analyze them, expose reasons, connection with certain social phenomena and forces, define their social role and their evolution, to understand that it is not alien but "different", non-classical and postmodern. If modern culture did not experience "aesthetic boom", it would be possible to accept the often warning as for distribution of the "aesthetic crisis", which is going to be replaced by the "cultural turn", "linguistic turn" or era of "Informatics and Cybernetics". But aesthetics reveals its "daily presence" and becomes an autonomous branch of values, authoritative examination of society. O argumento do filme Rashômon de Akira Kurosawa suscita de um modo provocatório o problema a que o presente artigo pretende dar uma resposta. Como é possível discernir, em relação a um facto histórico, o verdadeiro do falso? Existe um saber capaz de nos ajudar a regular e a orientar o nosso juízo nas experiências humanas? Mostra-se, com efeito, que tanto para Pascal como para Kierkegaard existe um saber específico que tem por objecto o mundo histórico; este saber é a (...) fé, a crença. Mas se para Pascal os conhecimentos de carácter histórico, desde que submetidos a verificação adequada, podem alcançar o mesmo grau de certeza do saber científico, e se Pascal, com base nesta convicção, utilizou as provas históricas para demonstrar a verdade do cristianismo, para Kierkegaard, por sua vez, nenhuma verificação pode tornar certo aquilo que é constitutivamente incerto. Com Lessing, de facto, Kierkegaard defende que "verdades históricas fortuitas" não podem jamais tornar-se uma prova para as "verdades eternas da razão". /// The argument of Akira Kurosawa's movie Rashômon raises the question to which the present article aims at giving an answer. But if for Pascal historical knowledge, once it is subjected to adequate verification, can reach the same degree of certainty as scientific knowledge, and if Pascal, on the basis of this conviction, has used the historical proofs in order to demonstrate the truth of Christianity, for Kierkegaard, on the other hand, there is no verification possible that can make certain that that is constitutionally uncertain. Stoga se orijentira na zajedničke vrednote pri temeljitoj analizi i vrednovanju zakonskoga normiranja ljudskih prava u Europskoj Uniji: Ugovora o Europskoj Uniji, Povelje o temeljnim pravima, drugih propisa i prakse europskih institucija. Mir kao osnovni cilj europskoga ujedinjenja može se stabilizirati prije svega (...) pomoću slobode i poštivanja temeljnih i ljudskih prava. O objetivo, por sua vez, é o esclarecimento do significado e da função do artigo “der” que encontramos na referida expressão. Para tanto, o artigo foca predominantemente nos modos-de-ser dos entes intramundanos e no fenômeno da Weltanschauung, tomando-os como os elementos fundamentais para uma compreensão satisfatória e global do evento do In-der-Welt-Sein, enquanto sinônimo geral da existência do Dasein. Desta forma, tanto os modos-de-ser dos entes intramundanos como a estrutura da Weltanschauung (...) são tomados como aqueles fenômenos que, representados na expressão In-der-Welt-Sein pelo artigo “der”, singularizam “mundo” enquanto sentido do ser desvelado para a compreensão do Dasein – inapelavelmente manifestado em alguma especificidade concreta.
