The Ethics of Peace and Justice in International Order.Wolfgang Lienemann - 2007 - Studies in Christian Ethics 20 (1):77-87.
The question is: How is a global peace order possible in the shape of an international legal system? The article focuses on the problems of international law within the present system of the UN and tries to actualise the Kantian concept of perpetual peace (1795), with regard to positions of international lawyers. A peaceful international order must have the means to protect against unlawful violence, even by armed forces, e.g. to intervene against gross violations of fundamental human rights. It is (...)

‘“I think” is the Sole Text of Rational Psychology’: Comments on Ian Proops’s The Fiery Test of Critique.Béatrice Longuenesse - forthcoming - Kantian Review:1-10.
I focus on two main points in Ian Proops’s reading of Kant’s Paralogisms of Pure Reason: the structure of the paralogisms in the A edition of the Critique of Pure Reason, and the changes in Kant’s exposition of the paralogisms from A to B. I agree with Proops that there are defects in the A exposition and that Kant attempted to correct those defects in B. But I argue that Proops fails to give its due to what remains fundamental in (...)

Surveys were conducted at two metta meditation retreats in order to examine the psychological effects of metta meditation. Participants were invited to complete the survey at the beginning of the retreat, at the end of the retreat, and two weeks after the end of the retreat. Participants completed the same scales at each time phase, which included measures of happiness, compassionate love, revenge and avoidance motivation, gratitude, and a depression, anxiety and stress scale. Significant increases were found in happiness and (...)

In the theoretical framework developed by Y. Lenoir and his colleagues, Bourdieu’s concept of habitus is fundamental to explaining the tacit aspect of teaching practices. This article takes a critical look at the connection the framework makes between the concept of habitus and that of embedded skills, which is derived from French ergonomic psychology. Our primary objective is to examine the relevance and the limitations of this connection, with specific focus on its methodological implications. Our results indicate that a cognitive (...)

Achieving a Better Life On the Planet. Are We Our 'Brothers' Keepers'?Beatrice Sofaer - 1994 - Nursing Ethics 1 (3):173-177.
All living human beings have the moral right not to be denied reasonable help in life threatening situations. Disasters take on many forms, but their consequences for individuals may be prolonged and stretch into the next generation. We have a moral obligation to create a better life for people by speaking out and trying to prevent man-made disasters and their consequences. To do this the commitment to life and its value must be reinforced. A number of suggestions are made, particularly (...)

  22. How Sustainability Ratings Might Deter 'Greenwashing': A Closer Look at Ethical Corporate Communication. [REVIEW]Béatrice Parguel, Florence Benoît-Moreau & Fabrice Larceneux - 2011 - Journal of Business Ethics 102 (1):15-28.
Of the many ethical corporate marketing practices, many firms use corporate social responsibility (CSR) communication to enhance their corporate image. Yet, consumers, overwhelmed by these more or less well-founded CSR claims, often have trouble identifying truly responsible firms. This confusion encourages ‘greenwashing’ and may make CSR initiatives less effective. On the basis of attribution theory, this study investigates the role of independent sustainability ratings on consumers’ responses to companies’ CSR communication. Experimental results indicate the negative effect of a poor sustainability (...)

Medical discoveries.Beatrice Kavanaugh - 2017 - Broomall, Pennsylvania: Mason Crest.
Medical science is advancing all the time. Researchers are constantly trying to find new ways to help people to have long and healthy lives. Thanks to their work, doctors today can cure diseases, lessen pain, replace unhealthy limbs or organs, and help infertile couples have children. Doctors can even keep seriously ill people alive against all odds. But not everyone is enamored with advances in medicine. They question whether it is appropriate to prolong life in all cases, or believe that (...)

The Facial Expressive Action Stimulus Test. Veld & Jan Van den Stock - 2015 - Frontiers in Psychology 6:162648.
There are many ways to assess face perception skills. In this study, we describe a novel task battery FEAST (Facial Expression Action Stimulus Test) developed to test recognition of identity and expressions of human faces as well as stimulus control categories. The FEAST consists of a neutral and emotional face memory task, a face and object identity matching task, a face and house part-to-whole matching task, and a human and animal facial expression matching task. The identity and part-to-whole matching tasks (...)

Der Bologna-Prozess als Herausforderung für die theologische Ethik.Hans-Richard Reuter, Wolfgang Lienemann, Johannes Fischer & Reiner Anselm - 2005 - Zeitschrift Für Evangelische Ethik 49 (1):169-189.
The Bologna process forces a reframing of the theological education. In the autor's mind, it affords chances for an improved quality during the first two cycles. The change from an input-oriented to an output-oriented leaming provides a better professional competences. In addition, the Bologna process provokes to profile theology in an interdisciplinary context. The article outlines the profile of Theological Ethics as a self-contained discipline, connectedwith both, the other theolgical disciplines and the adjacent sciences, such as medicine, law, and sociology. Die Vielfalt der Lebensgemeinschaften: Zwischen Gleichstellungsgebot und Diskriminierungsverbot.Wolfgang Lienemann - 1995 - Zeitschrift Für Evangelische Ethik 39 (1):279-297.
The author pleads for an equal and differentiated treatment of marriage and same-sex-unions in civillaw. In theological perspective it is necessary to regard same-sex-unions as well as marriages under the aspects oflife-long commitment and responsibility- both may be and should be »Iove in earnest« F or the decisive moment in every kind oflife-long partnership in the destination that »your body isatemple ofthe Holy Spirit«. - From this central point of view biblical damnations of homosexual behaviour must be criticised. - As (...)

The article explores postmodern contributions to normativity of legal rules. Since Kant jurisprudence attributes binding force to legal norms which can formally be universalized. Giorgio Agamben's works, which are qualified here as postmodern, demonstrate that the far criticized - most prominently by Hegel - deficiency of substance of Kantian law might mean total submission to this insubstantiality and that generalisations always result in exclusion. Coincidently, as Agamben shows on the basis of a re-interpretation of Aristotle's concept of dýnamis and enérgeia, (...)
