Dans un passage de Physique iii (7, 207b15-21), Aristote s’exprime d’une manière qui suppose valide l’implication suivante : « Si une grandeur peut être infinie en puissance, une telle grandeur peut aussi être infinie en acte ». Cette implication a intrigué les commentateurs tant anciens et médiévaux que modernes. Ces derniers se sont en général bornés à constater que l’implication n’est pas logiquement valide, sans expliquer comment et en quel sens Aristote avait pu la tenir pour telle. En rapprochant le (...) passage précité d’un autre passage de Physique iii (6, 206b16-27), le présent article en propose une interprétation qui semble lever toutes les difficultés. Au Moyen Age, le sens de l’implication a été très discuté, et l’interprétation proposée ici a été vue et soutenue par plusieurs commentateurs : on l’étudie chez quelques-uns de ceux-ci en situant leur position dans le cadre du débat médiéval sur la question, notamment en référence aux deux interprétations alors fameuses proposées par Averroès. N. Oresme passe pour l'un des rares grand universitaire médiéval mathématicien. C'est ainsi que son grand traité De Configurationibus qualitatum et motuum est vu traditionnellement comme un traité de mathématiques et analysé comme tel. En fait, l'examen de ses Questiones super Physicam montre qu'Oresme est un philosophe de la nature original. Ses thèses sont souvent en opposition avec celles de Buridan et saméthode est différente: ses arguments empruntent fort peu à la logique et presque exclusivement à la philosophie naturelle.

A foreign juridicial databank inquiry gives to difficulties not only with the linguistic problem of the translation but also with the comparison of the different law systems. So, it’s necessary to create a device able to resolve the collation of different juridicial systems specially when the files data retrieval is realised by a foreign user. These interfaces use specific connexion which allow an efficient documentary research and protect the integrity and the specificity of each national law systems.

The evolutionary origins of several vertebrate organs are still controversial. The thyroid is classically thought to derive directly from the endostyle (a pharyngeal organ found in urochordates, cephalochordates and lampreys). Several molecular and biochemical lines of evidence agree with this scenario. However, a recent paper,1 describing the expression of a FoxE ortholog in amphioxus, suggests that some molecular pathways might actually have been recruited from an adjacent region of the pharynx. Although additional data from urochordates and lamprey are needed to (...) confirm this hypothesis; these results propose an interesting new scenario for thyroid evolution that involved the reorganisation of genetical and morphological features in the pharyngeal endoderm in order to give rise to a entirely new organ. They also give an indication that the ancestral role of the FoxE gene family was probably limited to the differentiation of part of the pharynx. Much of experimental philosophy consists of surveying 'folk' intuitions about philosophically relevant issues. Are the results of these surveys evidence that the relevant folk intuitions cannot be predicted from the ‘armchair’? We found that a solid majority of philosophers could predict even results claimed to be 'surprising'. But, we argue, this does not mean that such experiments have no role at all in philosophy.

The meaning of consciousness, has interested thinkers throughout recorded time, and yet it is quite obvious that its understanding is still exceedingly remote. This is evident from the fact that even the presently used definitions give rise to contradictions. As implied by the title, the purpose of this paper is to remove some of the main difficulties concerned with this definition by using epistemological methods which have recently been developed. It is hoped that by clarifying the definition of consciousness, or, (...) more accurately, by clarifying the process leading to a scientifically rigorous definition of consciousness, some of the paradoxes surrounding the concept might be removed.
