    Zusammenfassung. 287 Ärzte/Ärztinnen aus internistischen Intensivstationen von 43 Krankenhäusern verschiedener Versorgungsgrade wurden mit Hilfe eines Fragebogens an Hand von 6 Fallbeschreibungen befragt, welche Maßnahmen sie bei einer bestimmten Krankheitskonstellation noch durchführen würden. Gleichzeitig wurde der Einfluss bestimmter persönlicher Faktoren auf die Entscheidungen überprüft. Im Ergebnis führt die Tätigkeit in einer Universitätsklinik zu einer stärkeren Befürwortung des therapeutischen Maximums.     This paper examines a promising probabilistic theory of singular causation developed by David Lewis. I argue that Lewis' theory must be made more sophisticated to deal with certain counterexamples involving pre-emption. These counterexamples appear to show that in the usual case singular causation requires an unbroken causal process to link cause with effect.     In quantum mechanics it is usually assumed that mutually exclusives states of affairs must be represented by orthogonal vectors. Recent attempts to solve the measurement problem, most notably the GRW theory, require the relaxation of this assumption.
