The article is devoted to the assessment of interconnection and interaction problems of an individual and a collective. The different definitions of personality are analyzed. There has been made a historical excursus to the theory of collective development during the soviet and post-Soviet period. There also have been set forth the views of interconnection and interaction of individual and a collective of outstanding pedagogues A. S. Makarenko and I. P. Ivanov. The modern psycho-pedagogical analysis of these theories confirms its actuality (...)

    On the Design of the Book Introduction to Philosophy [Vvedenie v Filosofiiu].I. T. Frolov, V. S. Stepin, V. A. Lektorskii & V. Zh Kelle - 1990 - Russian Studies in Philosophy 28 (4):25-57.
A large team of well-known Soviet scholars is currently preparing a new textbook in philosophy. We thought it might be useful to acquaint the broad philosophical public with the ideas that guided the authors in writing the textbook, and have included its table of contents, preface, and conclusion. We also, together with the team of authors, are hoping for readers' responses. The book will be published shortly by Politizdat Publishers.

    Speech and Silence in Old Rus'ian Culture.V. A. Malakhov & T. A. Chaika - 2000 - Russian Studies in Philosophy 38 (4):34-52.
In the history of culture there are "linking" themes, a common interest in which sometimes brings quite distant periods closer together. One such theme that affects the contemporary understanding of medieval culture is, in our view, the problem of speech and silence as types of relation to reality based, respectively, on its intelligible differentiation and its total acceptance as such.

Introduction to the Lectures on the History of Philosophy.T. M. Knox & A. V. Miller (eds.) - 1987 - Clarendon Press.
This new translation of the first volume of Hegel's Lectures on the History of Philosophy is a welcome and valuable addition to the new translations of Hegel's works, and now appears in paperback for the first time. Hegel's History of Philosophy has been described as perhaps one of his greatest achievements, and also as the first systematic history of philosophy since Aristotle. The translation included material from lecture notes taken by Hegel's pupils in 1923-4, 1925-6, and 1927-8. This material was (...)

    Six Secular Philosophers.E. V. T. - unknown
This book is a lucid and readable account of Spinoza, Hume, Kant, Nietzsche, James, and Santayana, not only as contributors to present-day secularism, but as precursors of religious liberalism. Beck traces the theme of "secularism and human values" through these thinkers, though difficulties arise from the fact that they represent a radical divergence of philosophic interests, and in any case would hardly have recognized, much less defended, the particular variety of secularism and religious liberalism that has arisen in recent times, (...)

Information and communication technologies as an indicator of development of a knowledge economy.V. V. Makarov & T. A. Blatova - 2014 - Liberal Arts in Russia 3 (4):275--281.
Present time the term ‘knowledge economy‘ is widely used to determine the type of economy in which the decisive role is played by knowledge and the generation of new knowledge becomes a source of socio-economic development. The emergence of the knowledge economy was predetermined by the rapid development of information and communication technologies. Therefore, different approaches to the of knowledge economy measurement define the level of the information-communication technologies development as one of the most important indicators. The state programs of (...)

Social Being and the Human Essence: An Unresolved Issue in Soviet Philosophy. A Dialogue with Russian Philosophers Conducted by David Bakhurst.David Bakhurst, F. T. Mikhailov, V. S. Bibler, V. A. Lektorsky & V. V. Davydov - 1995 - Studies in East European Thought 47 (1/2):3-60.
This is a transcription of a debate on the concept of a person conducted in Moscow in 1983. David Bakhurst argues that Evald Ilyenkov's social constructivist conception of personhood, founded on Marx's thesis that the human essence is 'the ensemble of social relations', is either false or trivially true. F. T. Mikhailov, V. S. Bibler, V. A. Lektorsky and V. V. Davydov critically assess Bakhurst's arguments, elucidate and contextualize Ilyenkov's views, and defend, in contrasting ways, the claim that human individuals (...)

    St. Thomas and Philosophy. [REVIEW]S. V. T. - 1965 - Review of Metaphysics 18 (3):590-590.
In his Aquinas Lecture of 1964, Pegis contends that a dynamic Thomism for our time must avoid, 1) merely detaching and then recomposing separable philosophical elements from the theological whole in which Thomas cast them, and 2) simply protracting the medieval ancilla theologiae status of philosophy for such a "theologically managed philosophy" cannot speak to our times. A living Thomism must develop Thomas' basic insights in a living personalistic context, assuming all the risks that creative inquiry entails. Thomism thus appears (...)

    A Philosophical Study of Religion. [REVIEW]E. V. T. - 1967 - Review of Metaphysics 20 (4):718-719.
This book argues that The question, What is religion? is a religious question, that cannot be answered by philosophy. In method, the book is part theological, part philosophical, and part historical, with no clear differentiation between them. It is an interesting specimen of the little-known philosophical school of "presuppositionalism," which has been influenced by recent Dutch Calvinist theologians, including Dooyeweerd.—T. E. V.

    Existenzphilosophie im geistigen Leben der Gegenwart. [REVIEW]E. V. T. - 1967 - Review of Metaphysics 20 (4):726-726.
Written in 1949 and recently expanded for its third edition, this volume ranks, along with Löwith's book on Heidegger, as one of the two or three definitive studies of Existenzphilosophie in print. Müller shows how Heidegger's Seinsdenken really fulfills some of the perennial aims and resolves some of the deepest paradoxes of traditional philosophizing, and is not the radical departure it seems to be. This is a most refreshing and readable work, and it is unfortunate for American students that it (...)

George L. Goodwin's doctoral dissertation sets out to accomplish two things in Hartshorne scholarship: provide an interpretive tool for understanding the validity of the ontological argument within an Hartshornean perspective and advance the discussion concerning the validity of de re modality considering the challenge posed by W. V. O. Quine. Goodwin attempts to prove that through the doctrine of temporal possibility Hartshorne has provided a means both for understanding the validity of the ontological argument and for meeting Quine's challenge with (...)
