Comprehension Processes of Verbal Irony: The Effects of Salience, Egocentric Context, and Allocentric Theory of Mind.Yoritaka Akimoto, Shiho Miyazawa & Toshiaki Muramoto - 2012 - Metaphor and Symbol 27 (3):217-242.
The present study investigated the comprehension processes of verbal irony by clarifying the temporally distinct contributions of three information sources, namely, salience-based lexical meaning, egocentric context, and allocentric Theory of Mind. We predicted that salience-based lexical meaning initially activates the literal representation of an ironic utterance. This is immediately followed by the activation of the ironic representation supported by the automatic interaction between salience-based lexical meaning and egocentric context. Finally, overall interpretation is achieved by incorporating the information from Theory of (...)

Das Lügenproblem bei Kant: eine praktische Anwendung der Kantischen Ethik auf die Frage nach der moralischen Bedeutung von Falschaussagen.Yasutaka Akimoto - 2017 - New York: PL Academic Research.

    Robot with slime brains.Soichiro Tsuda - 2009 - Technoetic Arts 7 (2):133-140.
Despite the exponential progress in computing power of digital computers, the development of lifelike cognitive systems appears has not yet reached the complexity of the simplest kinds of organisms. This may be explained by the lack of robustness of digital computers due to the requirements of structural programmability in the conventional computing architectures. In contrast, biological systems appear to operate in a different mode of information processing. In order to approach more lifelike artificial cognitive systems, the integration of natural and (...)

Effect of Mahjong on children's intelligence quotient.Takefumi Higashijima, Taisuke Akimoto & Katsumi Sakata - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
This study investigated the effect of Mahjong, which is a table game played by three or four players and involves intellectual activity, on the intelligence quotient of children. The participants were children between the age of 6 and 15 years, and their IQ was assessed immediately after enrolling in children's Mahjong classes and 1 year after the enrollment using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Fourth Edition. Twenty children were included in the analysis. Their mean age at the time of (...)

Do we have (in)compatibilist intuitions? Surveying experimental research.Kiichi Inarimori, Soichiro Homma & Kengo Miyazono - 2024 - Frontiers in Psychology 15 (1369399).
This article critically examines the experimental philosophy of free will, particularly the interplay between ordinary individuals’ compatibilist and incompatibilist intuitions. It explores key insights from research studies that propose “natural compatibilism” and “natural incompatibilism”. These studies reveal a complex landscape of folk intuitions, where participants appear to exhibit both types of intuitions. Here, we examine error theories, which purport to explain the coexistence of apparently contradictory intuitions: the Affective Performance Error hypothesis, the “Free Will No Matter What” hypothesis, the Bypassing (...)
