There is something embarrassing about money. Everybody is seeking it but at the same time they are reluctant to talk about their bank balances and stock holdings. As a society we have so much of it that we can install 7000 saffron curtains all over Central Park, send tourists into outer space, and analyze the gas on the surface of Titan, yet we fail to spend it on millions of poverty-stricken people who die of disease or starvation each year. We (...) do open our pocketbooks sometimes, but only when television images of massive destruction overwhelm our sensibilities. Money often dominates our consciousness and bombards us in the headlines: Our national debt is 7.7 trillion dollars and it's increasing by more than 2 billion dollars a day; corporate executives of Enron walk away with millions while their employees lose their jobs and their pensions; and we had an endless fascination with Martha Stewart, who is worth millions, but went to jail trying to save a few thousand. This article discusses several problems affecting progress in research on emotion: (1) disagreements over the appropriate referents for an emotion; (2) the modest relations between the brain states provoked by an emotional incentive and the accompanying semantic appraisals or behaviors; and (3) the abstract nature and indifference to origin of the English words used to name emotions. The final section contains some suggestions for future research.

Au départ, un constat : la question de la «moralité» des rêves a été délaissée par la philosophie, tandis qu�elle a largement inspiré la littérature. Afin d�explorer la question, on recourt à Aristote, premier théoricien naturaliste du rêve et analyste de la psychologie morale. Bien qu�opposé à une «lecture éthique» du rêve (il privilégie les facteurs somatiques), Aristote fournit une échelle extrêmement fine de «demi-actions» (spontanées, désirées, regrettées, etc.) de la veille. La traque d�une hypothétique «action onirique» sera l�occasion d�un (...) parcours tout au long de cette échelle éthique, et d�une étude plus générale du «diagnostic moral» dans la perspective d�Aristote. Here in more than a hundred photographs is portrayed Liebling's Minnesota. During two decades marked by social, political and cultural change, Liebling travelled the state and found his largest subject -- the depiction and interpretation of commonplace human experience. Much of our understanding of human thinking is based on probabilistic models. This innovative book by Jerome R. Busemeyer and Peter D. Bruza argues that, actually, the underlying mathematical structures from quantum theory provide a much better account of human thinking than traditional models. They introduce the foundations for modelling probabilistic-dynamic systems using two aspects of quantum theory. The first, 'contextuality', is a way to understand interference effects found with inferences and decisions under conditions of uncertainty. The second, 'quantum entanglement', (...) allows cognitive phenomena to be modeled in non-reductionist ways. Employing these principles drawn from quantum theory allows us to view human cognition and decision in a totally new light. Introducing the basic principles in an easy-to-follow way, this book does not assume a physics background or a quantum brain and comes complete with a tutorial and fully worked-out applications in important areas of cognition and decision. From the premise that a discourse analysis about the Museum and the History of Art as conditions of possibility of Contemporary Art discourse is required, this event analysis suggests that the subject of theoretical discourse of the mac between 1946 and 1947 is to conceive, to select and to display the Chilean painting as a representative overview of the artistic activity and of the nation itself. This also supposes a deeply rooted belief about Chilean art development: the formal evolution of (...) art runs parallel to the emergence of the nation from the beginning of the Republic until the forties of twentieth century, the first one is conceived as a mirror of the second one in its landscapes and genre paintings.
