Evolving beyond antiracism: Reflections on the experience of developing a cultural safety curriculum in a tertiary education setting.Kerry Hall, Stacey Vervoort, Letitia Del Fabbro, Fiona Rowe Minniss, Vicki Saunders, Karen Martin, Andrea Bialocerkowski, Eleanor Milligan, Melanie Syron & Roianne West - 2023 - Nursing Inquiry 30 (1):e12524.
There is an inextricable link between cultural and clinical safety. In Australia high‐profile Aboriginal deaths in custody, publicised institutional racism in health services and the international Black Lives Matter movement have cemented momentum to ensure culturally safe care. However, racism within health professionals and health professional students remains a barrier to increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health professionals. The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Strategy's objective to ‘eliminate racism from the (...)

The eudemian ethics on the voluntary, friendship, and luck: the Sixth S.V. Keeling Colloquium in Ancient Philosophy.Fiona Leigh (ed.) - 2012 - Boston: Brill.
The papers in this collection on Aristotle’s Eudemian Ethics by Charles, Rowe, McCabe, Whiting, and Buddensiek, offer new readings of Aristotle on the voluntary, friendship, and good fortune in the EE, by treating the EE on its own terms.

A Behavioral Addiction Model of Revenge, Violence, and Gun Abuse.James Kimmel & Michael Rowe - 2020 - Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics 48 (S4):172-178.
Data from multiple sources point to the desire for revenge in response to grievances or perceived injustices as a root cause of violence, including firearm violence. Neuroscience and behavioral studies are beginning to reveal that the desire for revenge in response to grievances activates the same neural reward-processing circuitry as that of substance addiction, suggesting that grievances trigger powerful cravings for revenge in anticipation of experiencing pleasure. Based on this evidence, the authors argue that a behavioral addiction framework may be (...)

Anomalous Experiences, Mental Health, and Creativity: Is Psi the Missing Link?T. Rabeyron, C. Rowe, M. -C. Mousseau & A. Deledalle - 2018 - Journal of Consciousness Studies 25 (3-4):207-232.
This study explores the complex relationships between anomalous experiences, mental health, creativity, and psi within a sample of 113 visual artists in three art schools. The main objective was to assess whether psi could play a role in the emergence of anomalous experiences and their association with mental health and creativity. Participants took part in a retro-priming task, already used by Bem to assess unconscious precognitive abilities. They then completed three questionnaires evaluating anomalous experiences, mental health, and creativity. The results (...)

Toulmin Diagrams in Theory & Practice: Theory Neutrality in Argument Representation.Chris Reed & Glenn Rowe - unknown
The Toulmin diagram layout is very familiar and widely used, particularly in the teaching of critical thinking skills. The conventional box-and-arrow diagram is equally familiar and widespread. Translation between the two throws up a number of interesting challenges. Some of these challenges represent slightly different ways of looking at old and deep theoretical questions. Others are diagrammatic versions of questions that have already been addressed in artificial intelligence models of argument. But there are further questions that are posed as a (...)

  8. Alvin Plantinga on the ontological argument.William L. Rowe - 2009 - International Journal for Philosophy of Religion 65 (2):87 - 92.
By taking ‘existence in reality’ to be a great-making property and ‘God’ to be the greatest possible being, Plantinga skillfully presents Anselm’s ontological argument. However, since he proves God’s existence by virtue of a premise, “God (a maximally great being) is a possible being”, that is true only if God actually exists; his argument begs the question of the existence of God.

Proximity, Innovation, Collaboration; Developing the 4th “Extended Reality” Space.Nick Clifton, Fiona Carroll & Richard Wheeler - 2022 - Dialogue and Universalism 32 (2):61-82.
The digital “4th Space” is a development of Oldenburg’s delineation of the 1st (home), 2nd place (work) and 3rd (social) places. Coworking spaces are presented as an example of space blurring within the knowledge economy, where digitalization, knowledge flows, flexibility and innovation play out at the micro level. Post-pandemic, they are likely to play a greater role as remote working remains a permanent feature. But how should we reassess their role in the advent of the 4th space, and what might (...)

    Aims and Methods in Aristotle's Politics.C. J. Rowe - 1977 - Classical Quarterly 27 (01):159-.
This paper originated in an attempt to come to terms with the problems which arise from the structure of the Politics. It is no news to anyone who has the slightest familiarity with the Politics that the work reads, to borrow a phrase of Barker's, not as a composition, but as composite. Broadly speaking, it falls into three parts: Books I–III, Books IV-VI, and Books VII-VIII.

    Everett, Lotteries, and Fairness.Thomas Rowe & David Papineau - 2022 - Thought: A Journal of Philosophy 11 (1):59-63.
Defenders of the Everettian version of quantum mechanics generally hold that it makes no difference to what we ought to do. This paper will argue against this stance, by considering the use of lotteries to select the recipients of indivisible goods. On orthodox non-Everettian metaphysics this practice faces the objection that only actual and not probable goods matter to distributive justice. However, this objection loses all force within Everettianism. This result should be of interest to both philosophers of physics and (...)

A room of their own: the social landscape of infant sleep This paper draws on findings of a study in which new and experienced mothers’ caregiving practices were investigated, in order to examine social perspectives of infant sleep. Health professionals who work to support early parenting and promote child health and well‐being provide guidance to their clients concerning infant sleep cares. Currently, advice is predominantly informed by understandings and strategies derived from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) risk reduction campaigns and (...)

    An Uncommon Alliance.Sharon Rowe & James D. Sellman - 2003 - Environmental Ethics 25 (2):129-148.
Classical philosophical Daoism and ecofeminism converge on key points. Ecofeminism’s critique of Western dualistic metaphysics finds support in Daoism’s nondualistic, particularist, cosmological framework, which distinguishes pairs of complementary opposites within a process of dynamic transformation without committing itself to a binary, essentialist position as regards sex and gender. Daoism’s epistemological implications suggest a link to ecofeminism’s alignment with a situational and provisional model of knowledge. As a transformative philosophy, the cluster of concepts that give specificity to the Daoist notion of (...)

Unlike some psychiatric illnesses, criminal lifestyles are not reproductive dead ends and may represent frequency-dependent adaptations. Sociopaths may gain reproductively from their greater relative to nonsociopaths. This mating-effort construct should be assessed directly in future studies of sociopathy. Collaboration between biologically oriented and environmentally oriented researchers is needed to investigate the biosocial basis of sociopathy.
