Transition Probability (Fidelity) and Its Relatives.Armin Uhlmann - 2011 - Foundations of Physics 41 (3):288-298.
Transition Probability (fidelity) for pairs of density operators can be defined as a “functor” in the hierarchy of “all” quantum systems and also within any quantum system. The Introduction of “amplitudes” for density operators allows for a more intuitive treatment of these quantities, also pointing to a natural parallel transport. The latter is governed by a remarkable gauge theory with strong relations to the Riemann-Bures metric.

This paper presents a comprehensive pragmatic theory of contrastive topic and its relation to focus in English. In discussing various constructions involving contrastive topics, it argues that they make reference to complex, hierarchical aspects of discourse structure. In this, it follows and spells out a proposal sketched in Roberts (1996, p. 121ff),using the formal tools found in Büring (1994,1997b). It improves on existing accounts in the accuracy with which it predicts the non-occurrence of the accent patterns associated with focus and (...)

    Crossover Situations.Daniel Büring - 2004 - Natural Language Semantics 12 (1):23-62.
Situation semantics as conceived in Kratzer (1989) has been shown to be a valuable companion to the e-type pronoun analysis of donkey sentences (Heim 1990, and recently refined in Elbourne 2001b), and more generally binding out of DP (BOOD; Tomioka 1999; Büring 2001). The present paper proposes a fully compositional version of such a theory, which is designed to capture instances of crossover in BOOD.

Political Corporate Social Responsibility: Including High Politics?Oldrich Bures - 2015 - Journal of Business Ethics 129 (3):689-703.
This article explores whether political corporate social responsibility may be better understood through its inclusion into the realm of high politics instead of its current characterization as belonging to low politics. The key argument is that the growing role of private companies in the provision of security is too widespread and its implications are too important to be ignored by the PCSR literature. By extending the scope of its inquiry into high politics, the insights from PCSR research could enrich the (...)

It is the purpose of this paper to review the present status of discussion concerning the concept of probability. The exposition will consist of six sections: A brief statement of the most important traditional views of the concept of probability: subjective and objective; A brief criticism of two traditionally important conceptions: a priori probability and the Principle of Indifference; A criticism of an outstanding example of the subjective theory of probability, the theory of F. P. Ramsey; A criticism of the (...)

The gap between episodic memory and experiment: Can c-fos expression replace recognition testing?Jan Bures & Andre A. Fenton - 1999 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 22 (3):445-446.
The effort to identify the neural substrate of episodic recall, though ambitious, lacks experimental support. By considering the data on c-fos activation by novel and familiar stimuli in recognition studies, we illustrate how inadequate experimental designs permit alternative interpretations. We stress that interpretation of c-fos expression changes should be supported by adequate recognition tests.

The Bloch Gyrovector.Jing-Ling Chen & Abraham A. Ungar - 2002 - Foundations of Physics 32 (4):531-565.
Hyperbolic vectors are called gyrovectors. We show that the Bloch vector of quantum mechanics is a gyrovector. The Bures fidelity between two states of a qubit is generated by two Bloch vectors. Treating these as gyrovectors rather than vectors results in our novel expression for the Bures fidelity, expressed in terms of its two generating Bloch gyrovectors. Taming the Thomas precession of Einstein's special theory of relativity led to the advent of the theory of gyrogroups and (...)

Fidel Gutiérrez Vivanco - 2008 - Proceedings of the Xxii World Congress of Philosophy 37:337-344.

Fidel Gutiérrez Vivanco - 2008 - Proceedings of the Xxii World Congress of Philosophy 18:141-147.
The problem of identities and cultural differences constitute one of the global problems of our time. Identity and the differences in human beings are expressed in each individual, in each society and in humanity itself as a species. The differences of individual identities are solved by the integration of the latter inside society. The differences of the social or cultural identities are solved by humanity's integration. Is humanity's integration possible? If it was possible, what are the ontologic foundations for such (...)

Public reason under the tree: Rawls and the African palaver.Fidèle Ingiyimbere - 2024 - Philosophy and Social Criticism 50 (2):281-298.
Public reason is central to John Rawls’s political liberalism, as a mechanism for citizens to discuss about matters of common interest. Although free and equal, reasonable and rational, citizens of a democratic society disagree on their understanding of truth and right, giving rise to the fact of reasonable pluralism. Thus, Rawls works out an idea of public reason which allows citizens to argue about political matters and yet remaining divided in their comprehensive doctrines. On the other hand, African culture has (...)
