Estas páginas son un pequeño homenaje a Karl-Otto Apel. Desde el recuerdo de nuestros encuentros, pretendo hacer una aproximación a su persona, tanto desde el punto de vista intelectual, como -sobre todo- desde una perspectiva humana y personal. These pages are a small tribute to Karl-Otto Apel. From the memory of our encounters, I intend to make an approximation to his person, both from the intellectual point of view and -above all- from a human and personal perspective.

El objetivo de este artículo es mostrar la actualidad de algunas de las aportaciones más importantes de K.O.Apel a la reflexión democrática, en concreto a la relación entre ética y democracia. Para este objetivo compararemos estas aportaciones con las de J.Habermas, compañero de viaje en la propuesta de la ética del discurso. Comprobaremos cómo nuestro autor supo avanzar y justificar la necesidad de una estrategia moral, más aún, de una arquitéctonica de la razón práctica que relacione fundamentación y aplicación. (...) Solo así se puede dar razón de la perspectiva crítica tanto en la fundamentación de la idea de democracia como en la aplicación del principio moral a las instituciones que componen el sistema democrático. The aim of this paper is to show the actuality of K.O. Apel's most important contributions to democratic reflection, specifically the relationship between ethics and democracy. For this purpose, we will compare these contributions with those of J. Habermas, his colleague in the discourse ethics approach. We will see how our author achieved an advance in the justification of the need for a moral strategy, even more so for an architectural theory of practical reason hich includes the conditions of its application. Only in this way we can give a reason for the critical perspective, both in the foundation of the idea of democracy and in the application of the moral principle to the institutions that make up the democratic system. Ante al auge en la segunda mitad del siglo XX de la crítica a la Modernidad, surgen en el pensamiento continental un nuevo paradigma filosófico que intenta reconstruir aquel proyecto ilustrado de forma renovada. Es la obra de K.-O. Apel y J. Habermas un exponente claro de dicho proyecto. Ambos se proponen hablar de una ética del discurso como respuesta a la necesidad de poner en valor una racionalidad universal. Sin embargo, surgen diferencias de matiz sobre la fundamentación de (...) dicha ética. El problema de “lo incondicionado” no escapa al mismo Front the rise in the critics of the Modernity in the second half of the 20th century, a new philosofical approach appears, in the continental thinking. This approach tryes to reconstruct the enlighted project in a new way. The works of K.-O. Apel and J. Habermas are clears exponents of this project. Both authors try to propose a discursive ethics as a response to the need of putting in value an universal rationality. However, there are important differences on the foundations on their proposals. This paper aims to show that the K-O Apel's Project of Anthropology of Knowledge belongs to the tradition of hermeneutics logic, developed by the Logic of Göttigen. This statement can be proved by the fact that Apel conceives the relationship between das Leibapriori and das Erkenntnisapriori. In two text of sixties Apel shapes the relationship between human body and knowledge as a polarization of opposite strengths. The logic of exclusive disjunction rules this polarization. Forty years later he (...) changes his perspective and presents them as tensive relation of rivalry. In this way Apel takes in his own argumentation a central topic of the hermeneutics logic, namely, the life conception as a mediation between strength and meaning. (shrink)

RESUMENEl llamado “giro pragmático-hermenéutico” de la filosofía actual ha producido inevitablemente un proceso de “des-trascendentalización” de la filosofía. K.-O. In the present paper two kinds of quantum-theoretical states are considered: the “physical state” determined by a complete observation and the “intrinsic state” which comprises the values of the observed as well as the unobserved observables. It will be shown that the future values of all these observables are determined. Causality is therefore valid, though not verifiable.

Parmi les philosophies qui tentent de faire face à la crise de la rationalité, certaines, plus radicales que d’autres, en proposent une fondation reposant sur des principes qui se veulent exempts de toute présupposition. Ainsi K. O. Apel entend opérer une refondation de la rationalité éthique et cognitive en considérant les activités communicationnelles et argumentatives. Il s’agit d’élaborer une «pragmatique transcendantale» dont le processus d’étayage auto-réflexif s’appuie sur la «contradiction pragmatique» dans laquelle tombent ses éventuels contradicteurs. Une telle prétention (...) n’est-elle pas exorbitante ? Les sceptiques grecs ont élaboré une approche pragmatique du sens qui leur permet d’éviter la disqualification de leur énonciation, ce qui permet, en transposant leurs conceptions à la lumière des théories contemporaines du langage, d’échapper à la critique de Apel. On peut dès lors reconnaître le caractère constitutif de l’activité communicationnelle, sans prétendre en proposer une fondation ultime de type transcendantal, ni préjuger de son orientation éthique. Resterait à se demander s’il est possible de reconstruire une rationalité minimale compatible avec la posture sceptique. (shrink)

We examine the interface of entrepreneurship and society by considering a novel source of gender bias (public opinion) and a novel expression of it (affective evaluations). We posit that women-led teams displaying success will trigger a “penalty for success” bias, and this will be inhibited if the team receives a “stamp of approval” from a gender congruent individual (i.e., an investor who is a man). Analysis from our first study, based on archival data, indicated that other mechanisms might be at (...) play that we could not tease apart in our archival data, so we conducted a follow-up experimental study to further examine our initial findings. Results jointly indicate that women are viewed unfavorably unless either (a) they are validated by success or endorsement from a man, or (b) they fail but are “warm and accommodating” about it. We also find that while men benefit from being validated by success or endorsement of an opposite-gender investor, they do not face a similarly steep penalty absent that validation. (shrink)
