Mitigating ethical conflict and moral distress in the care of patients on ECMO: impact of an automatic ethics consultation protocol.M. Jeanne Wirpsa, Louanne M. Carabini, Kathy Johnson Neely, Camille Kroll & Lucia D. Wocial - 2021 - Journal of Medical Ethics 47 (12):e63-e63.
AimsThis study evaluates a protocol for early, routine ethics consultation for patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation to support decision-making in the context of clinical uncertainty with the aim of mitigating ethical conflict and moral distress.MethodsWe conducted a single-site qualitative analysis of EC documentation for all patients receiving ECMO support from 15 August 2018 to 15 May 2019. Detailed analysis of 20 ethically complex cases with protracted ethics involvement identifies four key ethical domains: limits of prognostication, bridge to nowhere, burden of (...)

Linguistic Intuitions are the Result of Interactions Between Perceptual Processes and Linguistic Universals.Louann Gerken & Thomas G. Bever - 1986 - Cognitive Science 10 (4):457-476.
We found a direct relationship between variation in informants' grammaticality intuitions about pronoun coreference and variation in the same informants' use of a clause segmentation strategy during sentence perception. It has been proproposed that ‘c‐command’, a structural principle defined in terms of constituent dominance relations, constrains within‐sentence coreference between pronouns and noun antecedents. The relative height of the pronoun and the noun in the phrase structure hierarchy determines whether the c‐command constraint blocks coreference: Coreference is allowed only when the complement (...)

Behavioral and Imaging Studies of Infant Artificial Grammar Learning.Judit Gervain, Irene la Cruz-Pavía & LouAnn Gerken - 2020 - Topics in Cognitive Science 12 (3):815-827.
Gervain et al. discuss both behavioral and neurophysiological AGL studies that investigate rule and structure learning processes in infants. The paper provides an overview of all the major AGL paradigms used to date to investigate infant learning abilities at the level of morpho‐phonology and syntax from a very early age onwards. Gervain et al. also discuss the implications of the results for a general theory of natural language acquisition.

  23. Człowiek miarą Wszechświata? Problem zasad antropicznych w kosmologii.Marek Łagosz - 2002 - Filozofia Nauki 1.
The paper discusses problems concerning anthropocentric understanding of cosmology and physics. The author considers two version of anthropic principle ("weak" and "strong"). Among other things the connection between anthropic principle and cosmological principle is here analysed. The author also deals with the problem of object-subject relation in physical science (probability and measurement in quantum mechanics). He have come to the conclusion, that anthropocentric interpretation of physical science leads to essential difficulties.

  25. Miara ilości informacji a jej znaczenie.Jacek Wolski - 2010 - Filozofia Nauki 18 (3).
There are five different conceptions of information which have been created in last sixty years. Each of them diversely define notion of information. The aim of this article is to prove that these five conceptions represents two separate trends. Every introduced conception of information is qualified either to quantitative trend, which is supported on rating of amount of information, or to semantic trend, which describe meaning of information. These trends are exclusive.

Each of us is a measure. The project of advocates of change in Plato’s Theaetetus as compared with sophistic thought -/- Summary -/- One of the most intriguing motives in Plato’s Theaetetus is its historical-based division of philosophy, which revolves around the concepts of rest (represented by Parmenides and his disciples) and change (represented by Protagoras, Homer, Empedocles, and Epicharmus). This unique approach gives an opportunity to reconstruct the views of marginalized trend of early Greek philosophy - so called „the (...)

    Filozofia Demokryta z perspektywy pojęcia miary.Marek Jędrasik - 2006 - Humanistyka I Przyrodoznawstwo 12:139-155.
Utożsamienie atomu z miarą powoduje włączenie powyższej kategorii, jak i całego systemu myśli Demokryta, do zupełnie innej sieci pojęć i związków symbolicznych funkcjonujących w filozofii greckiej. Gdy atom staje się miarą, to z definicji jest niepodzielną jednością w stosunku do wielkości mierzonych. Ujęcie to prowadzi do odrzucenia mechanistycznej interpretacji atomizmu Demokryta.

  33. Conceptual thinking in Hegel’s Science of logic.Pirmin Stekeler-Weithofer - 2013 - Argument: Biannual Philosophical Journal 3 (2):445-474.
W przeciwieństwie do takich czysto abstrakcyjnych modeli, Hegel analizuje rolę pojęciowych rozróżnień i odpowiednich brakujących inferencji w rzeczywistym świecie. Tutaj wszystkie obiekty są przestrzennie i czasowo skończone. Nawet jeśli rzeczywiste rzeczy poruszają się (...)
