Diskusní článek věnovaný knize Martin Paleček, Antropologové v pasti? Mezi přírodou a kulturou. Červený Kostelec: Pavel Mervart, 2017, 257 stran.

Slavná kniha Elementární formy náboženského života francouzského sociologa Émile Durkheima je jedním z nejdůležitějších příspěvků k sociologii náboženství. Po řadu let byla vychvalována a citována, stejně jako kritizována a zavrhována. Kniha se stala chartou celé řady sociálně vědních badatelů, zejména těch, kteří se zaměřovali na studium společnosti a náboženství. V roce 1966 však vyšel článek amerického antropologa Clifforda Geertze nazvaný „Nábo- ženství jako kulturní systém", v němž autor tvrdil, že Durkheimova teorie náboženství, stejně jako teorie náboženství Sigmunda Freuda, Bronislawa Malinowského (...) a Maxe Webera, by měla být překonána dokonalejší teorií náboženství. Touto dokonalejší teorií měla být Geertzova teorie. Porozuměl však Geertz Durkheimově teorii dostatečně, aby nás to opravňovalo k tvrzení, že Durkheim byl na poli teorie náboženství překonán? Širším tématem tohoto článku je otázka kulturní relativity v metodologii antropologie a sociálních věd. Cílem textu je popsat anti-anti-relativistický postoj antropologa Clifforda Geertze, v němž se odráží jeho interpretace pozdního díla L. Wittgensteina a jeho pojmu „životní forma“. Geertzův anti-anti-relativismus je výsledkem odmítnutí zaujmout pozici relativisty nebo etnocentristy, a to z několika důvodů. Hlavním problémem obou táborů je podle něj mylná představa kultury jako nedynamického a uzavřeného celku, která vyplývá z filozofické představy „ideálních“ pojmů. Taková představa je podle (...) něj zvlášť neudržitelná v dnešním globalizovaném propojeném světě. Geertz taktéž upozorňuje na dynamický způsob formování identity (subjektu nebo kultury) prostřednictvím setkání se s cizím. Životní forma je pro Geertze metodologický nástroj, který umožňuje vyhnout se rozhodování mezi relativismem nebo anti-relativismem a který naopak poskytuje dynamickou střední cestu, jejíž pomocí jde zkoumat vzájemné prolínání identit kultur a sociálních skupin. Shvaćajući kulturni pluralizam kao činjenicu suvremenog liberalno demokratskog društva, uočava se njegova problematičnost u odnosu na same liberalno-demokratske ideje. Demokracija polazi od prava većine, a liberalizam polazi od pojedinca kojemu su osigurana temeljna prava i dužnosti zanemarujući činjenicu njegova mogućeg pripadanja manjinskoj kulturi. Može li se odgovor na zahtjev kulturne različitosti pronaći isključivo u teoriji ljudskih prava ili je potrebno dopustiti postavljanje posebnih prava za pripadnike različitih manjinskih kultura? Je li takva posebna prava dovode u pitanje ideal jednakosti koji se (...) oduvijek smatrao temeljem pravednih odnosa? Will Kymlicka, polazeći sa svog liberalnog stajališta, navodi kako jedna obuhvatna teorija pravednosti u multikulturalnom društvu treba uključivati i opća prava, koja su pripisana svim pojedincima bez obzira kojim skupinama pripadali, ali i određena grupno-diferencirana prava ili »specijalni status« za manjinska prava.Understanding cultural pluralism, as a fact of the modern liberal democratic societies, it is problematic regarding the very liberal democratic ideas. Democracy starts with the majority rule, and liberalism is based on the individual, whose basic rights and duties are ensured, disregarding the fact of possible belonging to a minority culture. Can the answer to the demand of cultural diversity be found exclusively in the human rights theory or must we allow the setup of special rights for the for the members of different minority cultures? Do such “special rights” question the ideal of equality that was always considered to be a base of justice? Will Kymlicka, starting from his liberal standpoint, states that a comprehensive theory of justice in multicultural society must include both the general rights ascribed to all individuals, regardless of which groups they belong to, and the specific group-differentiated rights or “special status” for minority rights. Článek se zaměřuje na teorie kulturní mezery, jež ve svém díle rozpracovali Thorstein Veblen a William F. Ogburn. Sleduje přitom zejména dva motivy: jak se v přístupech těchto autorů tematizuje vztah sociální vědy a jejího publika a jak je argument mezery využit k prosazování specifického pojetí „účelu“ sociální vědy. Je zde předvedeno, jak se ve dvou různých stylech psaní a ve dvou různých argumentačních strategiích v podstatě identická teorie proměňuje a současně zužitkovává k prosazení distinktivního pojetí sociální vědy. Veblenův (...) klíčový motiv „sebe-konfrontace“ společnosti je srovnán s Ogburnovým motivem „využitelnosti“ vědění ve vztahu k úvahám o literárních technologiích vědy. (shrink)

Christelijke ethiek, in de traditie ook wel moraaltheologie genoemd, is een van de meest omstreden onderwerpen binnen de theologie, maar ook daarbuiten. Toch is het doel van deze ethiek 'een leven in volheid en vrijheid'. Zonder ethische richtlijnen en persoonlijke verantwoordelijkheid kan een leven niet slagen. Normen en wetten hebben als doel ruimte te scheppen voor het leven en dat te beschermen. Deze vrijheid invullen, daar zijn mensen zelf verantwoordelijk voor. En verantwoordelijk zijn betekent: een antwoord verschuldigd zijn aan iemand. (...) Ethiek voltrekt zich daarom altijd in relatie: tot het eigen geweten, tot het goede dat te verwezenlijken valt, en in relatie tot andere levende wezens en de natuur. Christelijke ethiek plaatst deze verantwoordelijkheid bovendien in relatie tot God. Mensen zijn vrij maar ook beperkt; zij doen elkaar kwaad en hebben behoefte aan vergeving en verzoening. (shrink)

According to the traditional interpretation, Lévi-Strauss’ structural anthropology deposes the concept of man and the notion of human nature from its central place in human and social sciences. While it’s necessary to acknowledge Lévi-Strauss’ distance vis-à-vis all philosophy based on intentionality, experience and consciousness of subject, we argue that the most interesting purpose of the structural anthropology lies elsewhere. Not only Lévi-Strauss never declared himself being part of anti-humanism movement, but most of all, his famous polemics with Sartre at the (...) end of La Pensée sauvage should be interpreted as part of his fight against ethnocentrism. The project of “dissolving the man” can be thus read as deconstructing the idea that western man makes of himself in the light of ethnological findings about universal structures orchestrating all human societies. We further show that the notion of subject survived its very death announced by the most radical structuralist thinkers and that structural method could be effectively employed in order to study different techniques and modes of subjectivation, revealing that “becoming subject” is a process structured by our language, symbolic universe and ethical teleology. Humans are remarkably adaptable, and therefore a successful species. There are many speculative answers to the question of why this is so. One of them represents the cultural intelligence hypothesis, which consid-ers cultural learning skills as the key to human success. This work aims to present the hypothesis of cultural intelligence as a viable alternative to more conventional approaches within the debate about the origin of human intelligence, such as the hypothesis of general and improvisational intelligence. Theirmutual comparison shows that (...) cultural intelligence hypothesis must necessarily work with flexible social learning strategies to describe cultural transmission, thus losing part of its explanatory power. As the theory of metacognitive strategies of social learning by cognitive psychologist Cecilia Heyes shows, there is a way to combine the flexibility of human reasoning with the “stupid” process of cultural selection. Iz samog pojma filozofije - koja kao "mudroljublje" označuje nikada do kraja ozbiljenu težnju za dohvaćanjem istine, a ne modrost i istinu samu - proizlazi njezino nužno prihvaćanje kulturnog, teorijskog i svjetonazornog pluralizma, kako bi se filozofskim dijalogom međusobno različitih orijentacija pristupilo nikad do kraja završenom konvergentnom traganju za istinom. No, suprotno etimologijskom značenju njezina pojma, teško bi se moglo kazati da povijest filozofije obilježuje tako značajnu dijalošku spremnost i toleranciju spram različitih misaonih orijentacija. Dapače, u određenom smislu, sama povijest (...) filozofije ne predstavlja ništa drugo do sukcesivno negiranje i polemičko pobijanje prethodno uspostavljenih filozofskih pozicija.U suvremenim uvjetima globalizacije, kada svijet postaje globalno selo, na čijoj se agori susreću ne samo zastupnici različitih misaonih i svjetonazornih orijentacija nego u prvom redu pronositelji različitih kulturnih i civilizacijskih tradicija i načina mišljenja, kulturni pluralizam iskazuje se kao conditio sine qua non ravnopravnog dijaloga i međusobnog uvažavanja sviju onih koji čine jedinstvenu globalnu zajednicu. No, kako se u ovom prilogu nastoji pokazati, pri pokušaju uspostave konsenzusa oko zajedničkih, to jest univerzalnih vrijednosti, često dolazi do nepremostivih poteškoća koje se mogu prevladati samo i isključivo trajnim priznavanjem kulturnih, svjetonazornih, filozofijskih, epistemologijskih različitosti, bez pretenzija na dohvaćanje i posjedovanje jedne i jedinstvene univerzalne apsolutne istine.From the very notion of philosophy – that, as a ‘love for wisdom’ stands for never fulfilled tendencyto reach the truth, and not the wisdom or truth themselves – emerges its necessary acceptance ofcultural, theoretical and world-view pluralism, so that the philosophical dialogue between differentorientations could approach never ended convergent search for the truth. Despite its etymologicalmeaning, it would be hard to say that the history of philosophy represents such a dialogical readinessand tolerance towards different orientations of thoughts. Quite the contrary, in a particularsense, the very history of philosophy represent successive negation and polemical refutation of thepreviously established philosophical positions. In actual conditions of the globalization, when theworld becomes a global village, at whose agora meet not only advocates of the different reflectiveand world-view orientations but, in the first place, holders of different cultural and civilization traditionsand ways of thinking – cultural pluralism functions as conditio sine qua non of the equaldialogue and mutual respect of all the members of the global community. This paper tries to showthat in an attempt to establish the consensus on common, i.e. universal values, we often come toinsuperable difficulties that can be overcome only by continuous recognition of cultural, worldview,philosophical, epistemological differences and without pretensions on reaching and possessionof the one and only universal absolute truth. L'auteur se propose de comparer la theorie de I'homme de saint Thomas d'Aquin et de Gabriel Marcel. II est interessant de faire une comparaison entre ces deux penseurs, car la philosophie de Gabriel Marcel est souvent pergue comme un nouveau type de philosophie chretienne. On dit parfois que la philosophie de ce dernier est beaucoup plus proche de I'homme contemporain que ne l'est celle de Thomas d'Aquin.
