    Bajki funkcjonalistów.Tadeusz Skalski - 2011 - Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Philosophica. Ethica-Aesthetica-Practica 24:137-152.
One of the most controversial principles of contemporary functionalism is the so-called principle of organizational invariance. Roughly speaking it states that all systems with the same fine grained functional organization have the same conscious experience. The author of this article tries to show that the principle leads to absurdity.

Nowadays a completely paralysed human being can do many different things using his or hers neurones. This is a new situation. The author of the article tries to find a proper language to describe the situation. He also tries to show the consequences of the phenomenon for some philosophical theories of mind.

  5. Doskonała teoria profesora Prognozy.Tadeusz Skalski - 2003 - Filozofia Nauki 1.
Professor Prognosis is a fictional character. His name - Prognosis - is meaningful and refers to a wonderful theory. Using his theory Professor is able to predict the behaviour of a human being with stunning accuracy; its predictive power is much greater than any other scientific theory. As for its predictive power the theory in question is so great that it seems impossible. We are inclined to think that it cannot be a theory. It must be something else. But what (...)

The text is a rejoinder to critical remarks which Zdzislawa Piatek aimed at the paper of the author of „Cats, demon, spells and ... naturalisation”. It appears that the differences between the standpoints of both polemicists are not as great as it might seem. In the author's opinion, one of the sources of the impression that those differences are substantial has been an overfree style of the essay, and in particular a little irresponsible use of the term „magic strategy”. The (...)

What would it be like to have a materialistic theory of language? Are humans able (not in principle but in practise) to develop such a theory? The author tries to show that the answer to the second question is „No”. The main argument is that the qualities of the theory in question would go far beyond what seems available for creatures of limited cognitive power.

Souvent elle est reduite à la logique formelle (A, Church, J. As it is broadly accepted, typical uses of demonstratives are accompanied by demonstrations. The concept of demonstration, however, manifests the action–product ambiguity analogous to that visible in the opposition between jumping and the resulting jump, talking and the resulting talk or crying and the resulting cry. It is also a heterogeneous concept that enables demonstrations to vary significantly. The present paper discusses action–product ambiguity as applied to demonstrations as well as the heterogeneity of the latter. An account that acknowledges ambiguity (...)

The British philosopher Michael Dummett (1925–2011) not only had a massive influence on the development of analytical philosophy within the philosophy of language, philosophy of mathematics, and metaphysics, but also contributed significantly to historical and metaphilosophical debates about the nature of this philosophical movement and its proper account. He proposed to define analytical philosophy as philosophy whose aim is the analysis of the structure of thought by way of the analysis of language. Hence, it is philosophy the gist of which (...)

    Indexicality, meaning, use.Tadeusz Ciecierski - 2021 - Semiotica 2021 (238):73-89.
The article presents two concepts of indexicality. The first, more standard and narrow, identifies indexicality with systematic (meaning controlled) context-sensitivity. The second, broader (derived from the work of Jerzy Pelc), conceives indexicality in terms of the potential variability of the general semiotic characteristics expressions (with respect to the context of use). The text introduces the concept of a pragmatic matrix that serves for a schematic representation of contextual variation. I also recapitulate briefly the views of Jerzy Pelc on the meaning (...)

It is also wrong to question the subjectivity of human embryo using (...)

    A Not-so-Simple Rule for ‘I’.Tadeusz Ciecierski & Jakub Rudnicki - 2023 - Philosophical Quarterly 73 (4):1100-1119.
Maximilian de Gaynesford has argued against the standard view that the reference of the first-person pronoun ‘I’ is determined by a rule linking the referent to some feature of the context of use. In this paper, we argue that de Gaynesford's arguments are inconclusive. Our main aim, however, is to formulate a novel version of the reference rule for ‘I’. We argue that this version can deal with several problematic cases. Our strategy involves analysing the so-called agent of the context (...)

Personalism versus Principlism in Bioethics.Tadeusz Biesaga - 1970 - Forum Philosophicum: International Journal for Philosophy 8 (1):23-34.
The bioethics of four principles, named as principlism, began in 1979 with the work of Principles of Biomedical Ethics by Tom Beauchamp and James F. Childress and has been widely criticized since the 80s. In recent years four rival approaches towards principlism have been specified in this critique. These include: a) impartial rule theory, developed by K. Danner Clouser; b) casuistry, represented by Albert Jensen, and c) virtue ethics, developed by Edmund D. Pellegrino. The critique of principlism presented by K. (...)
