Bergson's Fundamental Intuition.Frederic Tremblay & Semyon L. Frank - 2024 - Studies in East European Thought. Translated by Frederic Tremblay.
The following text is a translation of Semyon Frank’s “L’intuition fondamentale de Bergson” published in Henri Bergson: Essais et témoignages inédits, edited by Albert Béguin and Pierre Thévenaz, Neuchâtel: Éditions de la Baconnière, 1941. In this article, Frank addresses Bergson’s notion of intuition, his anti-intellectualism, his mysticism, his closeness to Lebensphilosophie, the notion of lived experience, the distinction between intuition as pure contemplation and intuition as living knowledge, the distinction between cognition of the atemporal essence of reality and cognition (...)

    The twentieth-century humanist critics from Spitzer to Frye (review).Mary Anne O'Neil - 2010 - Philosophy and Literature 34 (1):pp. 260-262.
In The Twentieth-Century Humanists from Spitzer to Frye, William Calin examines the contributions of eight scholar-critics who produced their most important work between the mid-1930s and the early 1960s, before the advent of contemporary critical theory. Five are from Continental Europe. Leo Spitzer, Robert Curtius and Erich Auerbach were German-language students of Romance literatures, while Albert Béguin and Jean Rousset, both speakers of French, were leading figures of the Geneva school. Calin also includes English-language scholars: the Oxford don C. (...)

    Relativity.Albert Einstein - 1920 - London,: Routledge. Edited by Robert W. Lawson.
_Time_'s 'Man of the Century', Albert Einstein is the unquestioned founder of modern physics. His theory of relativity is the most important scientific idea of the modern era. In this short book Einstein explains, using the minimum of mathematical terms, the basic ideas and principles of the theory which has shaped the world we live in today. Unsurpassed by any subsequent books on relativity, this remains the most popular and useful exposition of Einstein's immense contribution to human knowledge.

Punishment, Participatory Democracy, and the Jury.Albert W. Dzur - 2012 - Oup Usa.
Focusing democratic theory on the pressing issue of punishment, Punishment, Participatory Democracy, and the Jury argues for participatory institutional designs as antidotes to the American penal state. Citizen action in institutions like the jury and restorative justice programs can foster the attunement, reflectiveness, and full-bodied communication needed as foundations for widespread civic responsibility for criminal justice.

    Socratic Reasoning in the "Euthyphro".Albert Anderson - 1969 - Review of Metaphysics 22 (3):461 - 481.
In the dialogue Plato portrays a confrontation between Euthyphro, a self-appointed expert on matters divine, who is about to charge his own father with impiety for alleged mistreatment and eventual death of a slave, and Socrates, already charged with impiety, who exploits the coincidence to elicit from Euthyphro certain complexities of the concept of 'piety'.

  16. How to Teach Quantum Mechanics.David Z. Albert - unknown
I distinguish between two conceptually different kinds of physical space: a space of ordinary material bodies, which is the space of points at which I could imaginably place the tip of my finger, or the center of a billiard-ball, and a space of elementary physical determinables, which is the smallest space of points such that stipulating what is happening at each one of those points, at every time, amounts to an exhaustive physical history of the universe. In all classical physical (...)

Body and soul: the other side of illness.Albert Kreinheder - 2009 - Toronto, Ontario: Inner City Books.
This feeling-intuitive approach to physical illness vividly illustrates the symbolic attitude and active imagination with the body. The author was 76 when he died of cancer in 1990. Refreshingly candid, Body and Soul reflects a life well and truly lived in relation to the Self and the process of individuation.

    Leibniz.Albert Ribas - 2003 - Philosophy East and West 53 (1).
: Leibniz was writing his Discourse on the Natural Theology of the Chinese as the Leibniz-Clarke Controversy developed. Both were terminated by his death. These two fronts show interesting doctrinal correlations. The first is Leibniz' concern for the ''decadence of natural religion.'' The dispute with Clarke began with it, and the Discourse is a defense of Chinese natural religion in order to show its agreement with Christian natural religion. The Controversy can be summed up as ''clockmaker God versus idle God.'' (...)
