Kommunikation in Philosophie, Religion und Gesellschaft: Akten des InternationalenSchleiermacher-Kongresses 25.–29. Mai 2021.Christian Berner, Sarah Schmidt, Brent W. Sockness & Denis Thouard (eds.)

The basal chorionic trophoblast cell layer: An emerging coordinator of placenta development.Katharina Walentin, Christian Hinze & Kai M. Schmidt-Ott - 2016 - Bioessays 38 (3).
During gestation, fetomaternal exchange occurs in the villous tree (labyrinth) of the placenta. Development of this structure depends on tightly coordinated cellular processes of branching morphogenesis and differentiation of specialized trophoblast cells. The basal chorionic trophoblast (BCT) cell layer that localizes next to the chorioallantoic interface is of critical importance for labyrinth morphogenesis in rodents. Gcm1‐positive cell clusters within this layer initiate branching morphogenesis thereby guiding allantoic fetal blood vessels towards maternal blood sinuses. Later these cells differentiate and contribute to (...)

    Transzendenz und Rationalität.Elisabeth Gräb-Schmidt, Benjamin Häfele & Christian P. Hölzchen (eds.) - 2019 - Leipzig: Evangelische Verlagsanstalt.

Reconsidering the common ratio effect: the roles of compound independence, reduction, and coalescing.Ulrich Schmidt & Christian Seidl - 2014 - Theory and Decision 77 (3):323-339.
Common ratio effects should be ruled out if subjects’ preferences satisfy compound independence, reduction of compound lotteries, and coalescing. In other words, at least one of these axioms should be violated in order to generate a common ratio effect. Relying on a simple experiment, we investigate which failure of these axioms is concomitant with the empirical observation of common ratio effects. We observe that compound independence and reduction of compound lotteries hold, whereas coalescing is systematically violated. This result provides support (...)

A Christian for the Christians, a Muslim for the Muslims? Reflections on a Protestant View of Pastoral Care for all Religions.Kurt W. Schmidt & Gisela Egler - 1998 - Christian Bioethics 4 (3):239-256.
Whereas in the first half of the 20th century, proclamation was the focal point of pastoral care in Germany, the 1970s witnessed an embracing of the American pastoral care movement. From then on, pastoral care was increasingly understood as accompanying patients whilst adopting the spiritual dimension. Nowadays, Christian chaplains are encountering an increasing number of patients from different religious communities. Various models have been proposed to help Protestant chaplains find an authentic form of pastoral care suitable for all religions. (...)

In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:Extraordinary Rendition:On Politics, Music, and Circular MeaningsRandall Everett AllsupThe purpose of this symposium is to look at music, education, and politics. I will begin with an examination of how musical meanings are politically rendered, and how these understandings are attached to moral consequences. Highly resistant to classification, musical meanings are those things we come to understand about ourselves through music, as opposed to musical knowledge which is demonstrable know-how. (...)

    The Lord's Prayer in the Light of Shin-Buddhist-Christian Comparative Considerations.Perry Schmidt-Leukel - 2023 - Buddhist-Christian Studies 43 (1):33-49.
abstract: This paper reflects on the "Lord's Prayer" by relating it to various aspects of Shin-Buddhist practice and teachings as expounded in the writings of Shinran. The address of Ultimate Reality as parent, the concept of the "name," and the act of prayer, especially in its petitionary form, are considered in a comparative light. This does not only produce some "reciprocal illumination." It rather leads to an interreligious inquiry into the problem of evil and the problem of freedom and grace (...)

“…As We Forgive Those Who Trespass Against Us…”: Theological Reflections on Sin and Guilt in the Hospital Environment.Kurt W. Schmidt - 2005 - Christian Bioethics 11 (2):201-219.
In general parlance the term sin has lost its existential meaning. Originally a Jewish-Christian term within a purely religious context, referring to a wrongdoing with regard to God, sin has slowly become reduced to guilt in the course of the secularization process. Guilt refers to a wrongdoing, especially with regard to fellow human beings. It also refers to errors of judgement with what can be tragic consequences. These errors can occur whenever human beings are called upon to act, including (...)

    Inequality aversion and antisocial punishment.Christian Thöni - 2014 - Theory and Decision 76 (4):529-545.
Antisocial punishment—punishment of pro-social cooperators—has shown to be detrimental for the efficiency of informal punishment mechanisms in public goods games. The motives behind antisocial punishment acts are not yet well understood. This article shows that inequality aversion predicts antisocial punishment in public goods games with punishment. The model by Fehr and Schmidt (Q J Econ 114(3): 817–868, 1999) allows to derive conditions under which antisocial punishment occurs. With data from three studies on public goods games with punishment I evaluate (...)

    Viewing Jesus: Christology in Light of Muslim and Shin Buddhist Insights.Perry Schmidt-Leukel - 2022 - Buddhist-Christian Studies 42 (1):359-373.
Abstractabstract:In this essay, I engage in an exercise of interreligious theology focusing on Muslim and Shin Buddhist perceptions of Jesus. I ask if and how a Christian might take Muslim and Shin Buddhist views as genuine insights that may enrich and correct some Christian views. I further hold that lest getting incoherent such an exploration must keep all three perspectives together. It must combine the insight behind Christians' affirmation of incarnation with, on one hand, the insight behind Muslims' (...)

The author comments on the Consensus Statement from the point of view of an ethics consultant in Germany. Since many hospitals in Germany are under considerable competitive pressure, mission statements are becoming more and more important in order to draw a distinction between the different hospital types and to convey the meaning of the corporate identity both internally and externally. The Consensus Statement, which provides basic orientation without going into too much detail, can be a helpful initial document. However, it (...)
