RESUMEN Se analiza el concepto de superstición de Spinoza como dispositivo político de alteración de la lógica afectiva y, por ende, del deseo, instituyendo determinadas formas de acción y pensamiento. En virtud de lo anterior, se propone una lectura sobre su devenir conceptual, considerando las nociones de fetichismo en Marx, religión capitalista en Benjamin, espectáculo en Debord y discurso moral en Coccia, de esta manera se pone en evidencia la actualidad del funcionamiento de la superstición en la época del capitalismo. The last few years have seen the development of a new line of research around the relationship between digital platforms and activism. The influence of the internet and social media on the civic and political engagement of young people in particular has become clear. Digital platforms perform in this regard a set of functions crucial to activism in terms of communication, mobilization, and logistics. These are indispensable tools, especially to young people belonging to informal structures. Digital platforms have also been (...) shown to facilitate emotional and solidarity networks thus fostering a sense of community and a strengthening of collective identities. In this article we aim at examining this aspect based on in-depth interviews with young activists conducted in Portugal during a three-year project (2020–2022). We have concluded that, especially in certain activism contexts involving social groups of neglected or non-normative identities, digital platforms function as a crucial empowerment tool. These are linked to the emotional support for and recognition of the identities of these young people, incentivizing the creation of fields of political and social intervention. (shrink)

Este estudio expone la posibilidad de abordaje de un texto multimodal a partir de la integración del concepto de pathos. De ahí que busque ver la manera en la que los modos del corpus se integran para dar sostén a un efecto sensibilizador en quien lee. La metodología que se propone corresponde a la propuesta de la Gramática de la Multimodalidad y del concepto de “sinestesia” de Cope y Kalantzis. Además, se plantea un análisis aplicado de la propuesta del influjo (...) de las emociones en la audiencia a partir de Aristóteles y Plantin. Las dos propuestas mencionadas se articulan con el problema de la construcción de la verdad en ámbitos de violencia política en Colombia, atravesados por los medios de comunicación y por la validación de múltiples juegos de veridicción sobre lo real. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, many conspiracy theories have spread widely, which has the potential to reduce adherence to recommended preventive measures. Specifically, anti-vaccine conspiracy beliefs can have a strong negative impact on COVID-19 vaccination attitude and intention. The present study aimed to clarify how such beliefs can reduce vaccination intention, exploring the possible mediating roles of attitude toward vaccination, trust in science, and trust in government, among a sample of 822 unvaccinated Italian adults. Path analysis showed that anti-vaccine conspiracy (...) beliefs influenced intention to get vaccinated both directly and indirectly through the mediating effects of attitude, trust in science, and trust in government. In particular, the simple mediating effect of attitude was the strongest one, followed by the serial mediating effect of trust in science and attitude itself. Findings provide insights into the design of interventions aimed at reducing misinformation and subsequent vaccine hesitancy. (shrink)

Employee misconduct is prevalent in organizations and may be counterproductive in social and material terms. It is thus important to better understand how misconduct is construed by employees and the factors that determine its ethical acceptability in specific cases. This study explores attitudes towards unethical and minor deviant behaviours by examining the degree of acquiescence towards them in a sample of employees. Based on previous studies it was hypothesized that both organizational commitment and job satisfaction would be negatively related to (...) the acceptance of such behaviours in organizational settings. Results show that there is a relationship between the degree of acquiescence and organizational commitment and a more modest relationship with job satisfaction. They further indicate that organizational tenure impacts very significantly on the degree of acceptance. Although differences were found for age, neither gender nor organizational variables were found to be significant. (shrink)

In this paper we introduce Hilbert algebras with Hilbert–Galois connections (HilGC-algebras) and we study the Hilbert–Galois connections defined in Heyting algebras, called HGC-algebras. We assign a categorical duality between the category HilGC-algebras with Hilbert homomorphisms that commutes with Hilbert–Galois connections and Hilbert spaces with certain binary relations and whose morphisms are special functional relations. We also prove a categorical duality between the category of Heyting Galois algebras with Heyting homomorphisms that commutes with Hilbert–Galois connections and the category of spectral Heyting (...) spaces endowed with a binary relation with certain special continuous maps. Transmodern ethics establishes moral norms on liberal, pluralist and pragmatic principles. We see a comeback of the negation morals, however not of ontology-anchored morals, as is the case of the God who picks favourites or of the jealous God paradigm, and not even of morals anchored in a contractualist perspective, as is the case in the modern period. The preferred focus is on the value of positivism, of cooperation as a source of efficiency, of personal enrichment, be it cultural, spiritual, (...) or moral, derived from the access to alterity. Tolerance as an ethical value is legitimised by a new, utilitarian humanism. The ethical construction of identity revolves around the value of loyalty to a tradition, a dogma, a mentality, and by extension to any coherent system liable to generate a sense of belonging. Postindustrial ethics uses for instance the value of loyalty as a strategy in marketing, organisational development, political propaganda etc. The policies used in order to increase the loyalty of a shop's customers, the employee's loyalty for the company she works for, the supporter's loyalty to his team, are the translation in layman terms of the loyalty ethics that in spiritual terms was one of the foundations of orthodoxy as loyalty to the tradition of the holy fathers. The values of equality, liberty and fraternity have been more than that, as they have laid the foundations of the modern society. (shrink)

La paz pactada en La Habana fue y ha sido una oportunidad única para todos los colombianos, sin embargo, los últimos 4 años del gobierno Duque, no fueron de avances sino de retrocesos. La paz en este momento se encuentra en un momento crucial para sus próximos avances y apertura de posibles nuevas rutas de diálogo con otros (...) grupos armados ilegales. La construcción de paz es construcción del Estado y por esto es fundamental que la paz en Colombia esté acompañada de una credibilidad y consolidar la institucionalidad donde se logre llegar a cada rincón del país. Indeed, Pyrrhonists do not wander about aimlessly nor lack effective tools through which to dismantle the logical industry (...) of sophisms; their reference point is completely different, since they agree about some evident facts and live their life in accordance with κοινὸς βίος. El presente artículo aborda la estrategia escritural de Daniela Catrileo. Se propone revisar la elaboración del concepto de piñen examinando la relación entre lenguaje y colonialidad, para, de ese modo, subrayar el potencial político y reivindicativo que comporta en la novela del mismo nombre, Piñen (2019). Dicha hipótesis articulará el ejercicio de lectura aquí propuesto, atendiendo principalmente las estrategias narrativas empleadas –servirse de un polilingüismo que rompe estructuras gramaticales– para descentrar el lenguaje de su determinismo colonial. Así, interpretamos dicha (...) estrategia escritural en consonancia con las potencias micropolíticas y descolonizadoras del arte descritas por Suely Rolnik y, en consecuencia, apostando por la posibilidad de diagramar un devenir minoritario que dispute los imaginarios del inconsciente colonial-capital. The potential development of self-driving cars (also known as autonomous vehicles or AVs – particularly Level 5 AVs) has called the attention of different interested parties. Yet, there are still only a few relevant international regulations on them, no emergency patterns accepted by communities and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and no publicly accepted solutions to some of their pending ethical problems. Thus, this paper aims to provide some possible answers to these moral and practical dilemmas. In particular, we focus on (...) what AVs should do in no-win scenarios and on who should be held responsible for these types of decisions. A naturalistic perspective on ethics informs our proposal, which, we argue, could represent a pragmatic and realistic solution to the regulation of AVs. We discuss the proposals already set out in the current literature regarding both policy-making strategies and theoretical accounts. In fact, we consider and reject descriptive approaches to the problem as well as the option of using either a strict deontological view or a solely utilitarian one to set AVs’ ethical choices. Instead, to provide concrete answers to AVs’ ethical problems, we examine three hierarchical levels of decision-making processes: country-wide regulations, OEM policies, and buyers’ moral attitudes. By appropriately distributing ethical decisions and considering their practical implications, we maintain that our proposal based on ethical naturalism recognizes the importance of all stakeholders and allows the most able of them to take actions (the OEMs and buyers) to reflect on the moral leeway and weight of their options. En la última década, se han producido fuertes reconfiguraciones en la industria editorial argentina. En principio, se puede pensar en tres procesos que coexisten y que marcan tendencias novedosas en la formación y configuración de los campos editoriales nacionales: la concentración de la industria, la irrupción de las tecnologías digitales y la internacionalización. Los tres procesos se articulan de manera transformadora y complementaria. En este contexto, los editores funcionan como intermediarios culturales a partir del fortalecimiento de emprendimientos de nuevo tipo (...) que hacen usos novedosos de las posibilidades de la digitalización de la palabra. El objetivo de este artículo es exponer la problemática de la edición digital en el campo editorial argentino y cómo las tecnologías de la información y comunicación —TICs—, en el marco del capitalismo informacional, generan nuevos editores y modelos de editorial que proponen modalidades digitales de edición. En particular, hemos analizado la emergencia, en 2007, de Teseo, una editorial argentina, desde una perspectiva cualitativa. Por un lado, el abordaje metodológico se vinculó con el análisis de su página web y su catálogo, y se realizaron además dos entrevistas en profundidad con su director, Octavio Kulesz. A través de la indagación por el sentido en que este editor opera como propulsor de procesos de intermediación cultural, profundizaremos en la dirección de estos nuevos procesos culturales. (shrink)

Seed libraries are institutions that support the creation of semi-formal seed systems, but are often intended to address larger issues that are part of the “food movement” in the global north. Over 100 SLs are reported present in California. I describe a functional framework for studying and comparing seed systems, and use that to investigate the social and biological characteristics of California SLs in 2016 and how they are contributing to alternative seed systems based on interviews with 45 SL managers. (...) At a minimum, SLs function as new seed distribution institutions founded and overseen by dedicated, values-driven individuals and groups with goals including education, seed access, local adaptation, biodiversity conservation, community-building, and human health. Annually about 4776 people borrow seeds from, and 238 people return seeds to the SLs in this study, that operate through over 17,000 hours of work/year. These SLs distribute approximately 6456 packets of seed annually, mostly of commercial seeds from small seed companies, but some SLs emphasize local and culturally meaningful seeds. The significance of a 6% seed return rate depends on SL goals and can be investigated once appropriate indicators for those goals are identified and documented. Beyond distribution, the seed system functions accomplished by SLs differ, and all can have consequences for the processes shaping the diversity and adaptation of their crops. The SLs engaged in seed system functions beyond distribution are new forms of socially-motivated community science, poised to develop biological and social innovations reflecting their values and interests. Unter den Institutionen des Sendens stellt das Fernsehen mit Sicherheit die über lange Jahrzehnte erfolgreichste dar. Gleichwohl wird angesichts der mit der Digitalisierung einhergehenden, das Senden und die Sendungen weitreichend betreffenden Veränderungen, die das Medium unterläuft, vielerorts und nicht völlig grundlos die Post-Broadcast-Ära ausgerufen. Anhand der Lektüre verschiedener Serien werden diese Veränderungen hier nachvollzogen und untersucht. Das Sendungsformat der Serie erscheint für ein solches Unterfangen besonders geeignet, weil das Senden des Fernsehens zutiefst mit der Serialität und dem Seriellen als Prinzip (...) verknüpft scheint. An den Formen und Veränderungen des Seriellen lassen sich auch die Veränderungen des Fernsehsendens ablesen. Among the many institutions of sending, television certainly represents the most successful one over long decades. Nevertheless, given the changes that the medium incurs in terms of broadcasting and broadcasts as a consequence of digitalisation, many proclaim – and not entirely without reason – the post-broadcast era. This paper studies these changes by way of a reading of different television series. The format of the series seems particularly suitable to this end, since the broadcasting of television seems deeply linked to seriality and the serial as a principle. The changes in television broadcasting can be gleaned from the forms and changes of the serial. (shrink)

En este estudio me fijaré exclusivamente en la acepción de uno de ellos, ..., en el vocabulario ético de algunos miembros del movimiento socrático entre los siglos cuarto y tercero antes de Cristo, (...) puesto que este ambiente filosófico fue probablemente el lugar de nacimiento de un género literario: ... Este enfoque considerará las posiciones del mismo Sócrates, Antístenes, Aristipo, Platón, Diógenes de Sinope, Bión de Borystenes y los filósofos griegos más afines a Sócrates, los antiguos estoicos. A la luz de este análisis se podría marcar la frontera de un debate más amplio sobre la correcta actitud hacia el dinero. (shrink)

Husserlian Essentialism is the view, maintained byEdmundHusserl throughout his career, that necessary truths obtain because essentialist truths obtain. In this thesis I have two goals. First, to reconstruct and flesh out Husserlian Essentialism and its connections with surrounding areas of Husserl's philosophy in full detail – something which has not been done yet. Second, to assess the theoretical solidity of the view. As regards the second point, after having presented Husserlian Essentialism in the first two chapters, I raise a serious (...) problem for it in Chapter 3. In the remainder of the thesis I endeavour to solve the problem. In order to do so, I propose to amend both Husserl's theory of essence and his theory of predication. The bulk of the emendation consists in working out an account of essence and an account of predication that do not presuppose, or in any way imply, the claims that: 1) for a universal to be in the essence of an object, either the object or one of its parts must instantiate the universal; 2) for a universal to be truly predicated of an object, either the object or one of its parts must instantiate the universal. These claims, notice, apart from being what gets Husserl in trouble, are well entrenched not only in Husserl's, but in most theories of essence and predication. It is thus interesting to see what an alternative option may be – even regardless of the Husserlian setting in which I work it out. (shrink)

It is widely believed that we ought not to criticize others for wrongs that we ourselves have committed. The author draws out and challenges some of the background assumptions about the practice of criticism that underlie our attraction to this claim, such as the tendency to think of criticism either as a social sanction or as a didactic intervention. The author goes on to offer a taxonomy of cases in which the moral legitimacy of criticism is challenged on the grounds (...) that the critic him- or herself engages in the behavior that he or she criticizes in others. The author argues that, in each type of case, the would-be critics should not constrain their participation in moral discourse on the grounds that they are not themselves innocent of the wrongdoing they criticize in others. Cícero forneceu os termos antecipatio, praenotio e informationem; Lucrécio, notitia, exemplare et vestigia, a fim de dar voz e expor entre os latinos a doutrina do epicurismo. Diógenes Laércio indicou os termos katalêpsis, dóxa, énnoia, hypólêpsin, com os quais, segundo ele, os próprios epicuristas tentaram explicitar a prólêpsis de Epicuro. Physicians working in the world of competitive sports face unique ethical challenges, many of which center around conflicts of interest. Team-employed physicians have obligations to act in the club's best interest while caring for the individual athlete. As such, they must balance issues like protecting versus sharing health information, as well as issues regarding autonomous informed consent versus paternalistic decision making in determining whether an athlete may compete safely. Moreover, the physician has to deal with an athlete's decisions about performance (...) enhancement and return to play, pursuit of which may not be in the athlete's long-term best interests but may benefit the athlete and team in the short term. These difficult tasks are complicated by the lack of evidence-based standards in a field influenced by the lure of financial gains for multiple parties involved. Antes da Filosofia, a Sabedoria era a que continha o "saber" humano haurido da experiéncia vivida. E, portanto, Sabedoria expressava mais ou menos o que hoje concebemos como Cultura. Ora, a Filosofia construiu-se mediante a operacionalização de uma passagem: do contexto da Cultura (a qual se expressava mediante um sistema simbolico próprio do mito, da religião e da literatura heróica) para o contexto da Ciencia (a qual se expressou, na dependència do antigo, através de um novo sistema simbólico conceitual, pelo (...) exercicio de uma determinada competência). Do contexto de uma Sabedoria experimental, organizada no tempo da experiência da vida, construiu-se uma habilidade de tipo próprio: a de elaborar considerações sábias ou a de formular máximas mediante observações precisas. Tales representa, nos primórdios da descoberta do pensamento racional, orientando-a, não tanto para o governo da vida ou do viver, mas para o governo da Natureza, pela observação dos seus fenómenos. É sobre a instauração desta nova atitude (inferida do exercicio prático e não de discurso teórico feito por Tales) que se detém este artigo. Ele versa, num primeiro momento, sobre a sua figura de Sábio; sobre a sua necessidade de viajar, como forma de estudo e de instrução; sobre o seu envolvimento com a Geometria (uma ciência de feição especulativa, mas de carácter empírico); enfim, sobre a sua habilidade teórica e prática (mediante relatos de Platão e de Aristóteles). Num segundo momento, e finalmente, aborda a sua explicação racional da "physis". /// Avant la Philosophie, la sagesse détenait le "savoir" humain extrait de l'expérience vécue. La sagesse s'approchait done de ce que nous comprenons aujourd'hui comme culture. La Philosophic est le fruit du passage du contexte de la Culture (celle qui s'exprimait par un système symbolique propre au mythe, à la religion, à la littérature héroïque) à celui de la Science (qui s'est exprimée, pour la dépendance du système ancien, par le biais d'un nouveau système symbolique conceptuel moyennant l'exercice d'une compétence détérminée). C'est à partir de la Sagesse experimentale, organisée pendant l'expérience de la vie, que s'est construite une capacité propre: celle qui consiste à élaborer des considérations sages ou à formuler des maximes moyennant des observations précises. Aux origines de la découverte de la pensée rationnelle, Thalès fut un jalon dans ce mouvement de la sagesse: il a marqué le début d'une nouvelle activité du sage, par l'exercice spécifique de la recherche ou de l'élévation rationnelle, en l'orientant, non seulement pour la conduite de la vic (ou du vivre), mais encore pour la connaissance de la nature, grace à l'observation de ses phénomenes. Le thème de cet article aborde l'instauration de cette nouvelle attitude (induite de l'exercice pratique et non du discours théorique fait par Thalès). II traite, en un premier moment, de Thalès comme Savant; de ses voyages comme forme d'etude et d'instruction, de son introduction à la Géométrie (une science de nature spéculative mais de caractère empirique); enfin, de son habileté théorique et pratique (en utilisant des récits de Platon et d'Aristote). In the early days of the discovery of rational thought, Thales represents a landmark in his sapiential movement: the inauguration of a new activity of Scholars, through the specific exercise either of research or of rational speculation, directed mainly not to the rule of life, but to the rule of Nature through the observations of its phenomena. This paper deals with the instauration of this new activity (inferred from Thales 1 practice and not from his theoretical discourse). First, Thales personality of a Scholar is analysed: his need to travel as a way of study and instruction; his interest for Geometry (a science of speculative kind, but of empirical character); his theoretical and practical skill (according to the reports of both Plato and Aristotle). Justified belief is a core concept in epistemology and there has been an increasing interest in its logic over the last years. While many logical investigations consider justified belief as an operator, in this paper, we propose a logic for justified belief in which the relevant notion is treated as a predicate instead. Although this gives rise to the possibility of liar-like paradoxes, a predicate treatment allows for a rich and highly expressive framework, which lives up to the universal ambitions (...) of investigating epistemological concepts. We start with a base theory for justified belief, and then systematically present putative additional axioms for justified belief. We provide an overview of consistency results when the additional principles are added to the base theory, and discuss their philosophical plausibility. (shrink)

Leading philosophical models of curiosity represent it as a desiderative attitude whose content is a question, and which is satisfied by knowledge of the answer to that question. I argue that these models do not capture the distinctive character of a form of curiosity that I call 'erotic curiosity'. Erotic curiosity addresses itself not to a question but to an object whose significance for the inquirer is affective as well as epistemic. This form of curiosity is best understood by analogy (...) to erotic love as theorized by Plato in the Symposium. (shrink)

This paper explores a distinctive form of social interaction—interpersonal inquiry—in which two or more people attempt to understand one another by engaging in conversation. Like many modes of inquiry into human beings, interpersonal inquiry partly shapes its own objects. How we conduct it thus affects who we become. I present an ethical ideal of conversation to which, I argue, at least some of our interpersonal inquiry ought to aspire. I then consider how this ideal might influence philosophical conceptions of the (...) self. (shrink)

Buscando apresentar uma interpretação para EN I 4 1095a31-b13, este artigo defende que a digressão nela feita por Aristóteles pretende caracterizar a investigação recém iniciada como promissora, opondo-a, ainda que não explicitamente, ao modo rígido socrático-platônico de fazer Ética ou Política. Para tanto, propõe-se uma interpretação pouco usual do termo que como o princípio buscado e não como ponto de partida da investigação. Recusa-se igualmente ver na passagem mencionada uma referência ao modo ou etapas de aquisição de virtude moral ou (...) prudência, mas de um corpo preciso de conhecimento ou ciência, a Ética ou Política. O objetivo deste artigo consiste em detalhar como os termos éthos (grafado com epsílon) e êthos (com eta), ao mesmo tempo em que diferem, se completam entre si. Visto que os dois termos estão intimamente associados aos conceitos de phýsis (de natureza) e de moîra (de necessidade ou destino) este estudo quer também explicitar como se dá essa inter-relação.
