Events, Event Prediction, and Predictive Processing.Jakob Hohwy, Augustus Hebblewhite & Tom Drummond - 2021 - Topics in Cognitive Science 13 (1):252-255.
Events and event prediction are pivotal concepts across much of cognitive science, as demonstrated by the papers in this special issue. We first discuss how the study of events and the predictive processing framework may fruitfully inform each other. We then briefly point to some links to broader philosophical questions about events.

    'Means of Communication as Means of Production' revisited.William Hebblewhite - 2012 - TripleC - Cognition, Communication, Co-Operation 10 (2):203-213.
This paper seeks to examine the claim made by Raymond Williams that the means of communication are a means of production. While agreeing with the central claim by Williams, the paper argues that the model which Williams’ represents this claim with is insufficiently realized. By looking at the work of Marx and Althusser in relation to this claim, we suggest a new conceptual tool to actualize Williams’ claims.

    The People versus Political Philosophy.William Hebblewhite - 2020 - Australasian Philosophical Review 4 (1):69-74.
ABSTRACT In this paper, I outline two concerns regarding Avner de Shalit’s proposal for a public reflective equilibrium. Firstly, de Shalit's work suggests a division between the philosopher and the people. We, therefore, need to clarify what the relation between the philosopher and the public is. Secondly, who is the ‘public’ that de Shalit is discussing? By bringing de Shalit's work into contact with the work of Jacques Rancière, this paper will deepen the question who the ‘people’ or ‘public’ in (...)

College Student Cheating: The Role of Motivation, Perceived Norms, Attitudes, and Knowledge of Institutional Policy.Augustus E. Jordan - 2001 - Ethics and Behavior 11 (3):233-247.
Cheaters and noncheaters were assessed on 2 types of motivation, on perceived social norms regarding cheating, on attitudes about cheating, and on knowledge of institutional policy regarding cheating behavior. All 5 factors were significant predictors of cheating rates. In addition, cheaters were found lower in mastery motivation and higher in extrinsic motivation in courses in which they cheated than in courses in which they did not cheat. Cheaters, in courses in which they cheated, were also lower in mastery motivation and (...)

The Relations Among Religion, Motivation, and College Cheating: A Natural Experiment.David A. Rettinger & Augustus E. Jordan - 2005 - Ethics and Behavior 15 (2):107-129.
A natural experiment was conducted studying the relations among student cheating, motivation, religiosity, and attitudes toward cheating. Students enrolled in a dual religious/college curriculum were surveyed regarding their cheating behavior, attitudes toward cheating, religiosity, and learning/grade motivations toward classes. Business and liberal arts college students were represented. Results strongly support the following conclusions. First, grade orientation is associated with increases in self-reported cheating. Second, among these religious students, more religiosity correlates with reduced reports of cheating in all courses. This result (...)
