My aim in this paper is to explore the appeal of contemporary television serial drama. I argue that there are four main aspects of serials that inspire viewers’ interest and long-term commitment: serials’ overall aesthetics, its narrative complexity, strong emotional pull and serious mimetic aspect. I analyse each of these and I show how each stimulates our more general interests and emotional dispositions, primarily those related to aesthetic reward, intellectual challenge, moral clarity and entertainment. My analysis shows how these four (...) elements unite and how their union inspires and maintains viewers’ long-term commitment to the show. In the process, I explore viewers’ emotional engagement with the characters, suggesting it is of secondary importance for their long-term commitment to the show. This commitment, I argue, is motivated by viewers’ sense of care for the work developed in response to its repeated providing of pleasurable stimuli. (shrink)

Through some pages of Augustine of Hippo and Thomas Aquinas we see some medieval solutions to the platonic drama of a beauty defined by numbers and measures, however with suprasensible roots: how can we say beautiful what cannot be measured? If Beauty is Harmony and Proportion, consequently how can it derive from a suprasensible beauty? How will it be possible to express aesthetic judgments that go beyond measurement? El propósito es ir acercando respuestas a la pregunta sobre la especificidad de los valores estéticos. El texto, que fue publicado originalmente bajo el título “14 tesis sobre los valores estéticos”, en 1999 (Cuadernos Valeológicos, Serie: Valores, 1999, núm. 7, pp.1-42) ha sido revisado y actualizado para la presente edición.

È ormai diffusa la letteratura che mostra il carattere infrastrutturale delle piattaforme digitali. Brevemente sondata, ma sostanzialmente assunta questa dimensione, in questo articolo l’obiettivo è indagare le implicazioni politiche di tale categorizzazione. Nello specifico, risulterà particolarmente centrato analizzare il carattere tecnico, estetico ed egemonico del potere delle piattaforme, le declinazioni in termini governamentali, e le sfide che esse pongono all’attore statale.

While all human agency unfolds with a certain degree of improvisation, there are specific cultural practices in which improvisation plays an even more relevant role. Argentine tango is one of them. If tango is the chosen field of reference, I do not attempt to sing the praises of the form, but rather to establish a set of categories which enable to analytically frame improvisation. In questo contributo descriviamo un sistema di creatività computazionale in grado di generare automaticamente nuovi concetti utilizzando una logica descrittiva non monotòna che integra tre ingredienti principali: una logica descrittiva della tipicalità, una estensione probabilistica basata sulla semantica distribuita nota come DISPONTE, e una euristica di ispirazione cognitiva per la combinazione di più concetti. Una delle applicazioni principali del sistema riguarda il campo della creatività computazionale e, più specificatamente, il suo utilizzo come sistema di supporto alla creatività in ambito mediale. Proponer la existencia de filosofía en América Latina se convierte para muchos en un problema. Más dificultades se generarán ahora al proponer la existencia de una estética latinoamericana, teniendo como representante a un pensador colombiano: Nicolás Gómez Dávila. En medio de la obra de este pensador logramos entresacar una serie de códigos estéticos que, si bien están heredados de las concepciones europeas de la estética, podrían darnos atisbos de una mirada distinta otorgada por la observación de objetos y hechos (...) generados por el mestizaje sucedido en medio de tierras fértiles, agrestes y exuberantes como las de nuestra geografía. Realizar esta presentación implica repasar un legado existente, pero olvidado, por lo que actualizar una experiencia filosófica rica que, aunque presente, no se ha manifestado en nuestro medio de manera suficiente. Como objetivos principales de este ejercicio investigativo están: argumentar a favor del ejercicio filosófico realizado en Latinoamérica;proponer el ejercicio aforístico de Gómez Dávila como una aportación colombiana en torno a la estética filosófica; y repasar algunos tópicos estéticos que queremos entresacar en la obra de este autor para realizar un ejercicio hermenéutico de los mismos. Con este trabajo se espera alcanzar no solamente ecos en nuestro medio sino en las distintas latitudes donde ya el autor es reconocido, pero ahora desde la estética. La metodología empleada en esta investigación es realizada desde un ejercicio hermenéutico, en la perspectiva gadameriana. Esperamos proponer, como resultado principal, argumentos que corroboren las aportaciones de Gómez Dávila a la estética desde una perspectiva latinoamericana. Finalmente, concluimos que la estética de Gómez Dávila es de estilo clásicocon vínculos metafísicos, asociada a un canon griego y con una clara perspectiva cristiana, pero que ha sido elaborada por una mente perteneciente a un contexto latinoamericano, del cual no debemos extraer de ningún modo.AbstractTo suggest the existence of philosophy in Latin America becomes a problem for many. Even more difficulties are generated by proposing the existence of a Latin American Aesthetics, having as its representative a Colombian thinker: Nicolás Gómez Dávila. In the midst of this thinker’s work, we were able to identify a series of aesthetic codes which, although inherited from the European concepts of aesthetics, could give us glimpses of a different perspective given by the observation of objects and events generated by the miscegenation that took place in the midst of lush, rugged and fertile lands as those of our geography. To attempt his presentation involves reviewing an existing but forgotten legacy, and updating a rich philosophical experience that, although present, does not manifest in our environment sufficiently. The objectives of this research are: arguing for the philosophy made in Latin America; propose the aphoristic exercise of Gómez Dávila as a Colombian contribution to the field of aesthetics; and review some aesthetic issues that we want to conclude in the work of this author to conduct a hermeneutic exercise thereof. With this paper I expect to reach not only echoes in our philosophical community but in also in other latitudes where Gomez-Davila is already recognized, but now fromthe point of view of aesthetics. The methodology used in this research entailed a hermeneutic exercise, in the perspective of Gadamer. We propose some arguments supporting the contributions of Gómez-Dávila aesthetics from a Latin American perspective. Finally, we conclude that the aesthetics of Gómez-Dávila is of a classic style with metaphysical links, associated with a Greek canon and with a clear Christian perspective, but that it has been developed by a mind that belongs to a Latin American context, from which we cannot intend to separate it in any way. Literature has and always will be a “reflection” of human acts and behaviours. This movement of intentional self- reflection of human identities is the main element of narrative imagination. We would like to focus on a special peculiarity of this literary reflection, which is the transfer of Space and Time from reality to the literary world. The result of the transfer is that Space and Time become an autonomus narrative structure able to reveal something new about literary genres and especially (...) about human nature and society. La serie de televisión Cárcel de Mujeres (TVN, 2007-2008) constituye un caso paradigmático para comprender el paulatino proceso de incorporación de personajes no heterosexuales en la pantalla chilena durante el siglo XXI. Esta creación audiovisual, emitida en horario nocturno y con éxito de rating, incluyó el mayor el número de personajes lésbicos y bisexuales visibles en una ficción televisiva nacional hasta la actualidad. El objetivo de esta investigación consiste en sacar a la luz visiones inusuales de las corporalidades sexo-disidentes (...) ocultadas en narrativas dominantes. Desde una perspectiva de análisis del lenguaje audiovisual este artículo describe los tipos de representaciones, tramas y relaciones sexo-afectivas en las que se ven involucradas diez personajes lesbianas, masculinas y femeninas, presentes en la ficción televisiva. La investigación devela los discursos lesbofóbicos que construyen una ficción que asocia estas mujeres disidentes sexuales a la criminalidad y la perversión sexual, a través de una estética que consolida la figura de la lesbiana oscura. El análisis crítico de estos personajes contribuye a construir un archivo de sexualidades queer desde una temporalidad local y sureada. (shrink)

El artículo analiza la ficción seriada producida en España tras la reciente crisis económica desde el punto de vista de la introducción de localizaciones diferentes a la ciudad de Madrid y su relación con temáticas tales como el terrorismo, la inmigración y el tráfico de drogas. El estudio se fundamenta en aportaciones teóricas relacionadas con la representación espacial en el audiovisual, así como en el interés creciente en aplicar conceptos procedentes de la geopolítica al análisis de la ficción televisiva. Los (...) estudios de caso son tres series de ficción criminal recientes: El Príncipe (Telecinco: 2014-2016), Mar de plástico (Antena 3: 2015-2016) y Perdóname, Señor (Telecinco: 2017). Estas tres series han sido ejemplo de un proceso de renovación de la ficción española en términos de producción, narrativa, temáticas y estética con el fin de diferenciarse y encontrar un lugar en los mercados internacionales. Tanto frente al avance de los medios electrónicos y las teletransmisiones del siglo XX como frente a la digitalización cibernética del siglo XXI, los diversos campos epistémicos se han encargado de problematizar la relación entre lo perceptivo, lo estético (espacio-tiempo) y los cambios tecnológicos que imponen nuevas prácticas intersubjetivas, comportamientos y modos de subjetivación. En muchos autores surge el uso de un concepto puntual: el sensorium. Ya sea que se proponga un enfoque cultural o una perspectiva específicamente gnoseológica, suele repetirse (...) una referencia de dicha categoría en relación con los cambios de la velocidad y la aceleración de las imágenes, los textos y las comunicaciones; primero en la era de la electrónica analógica y luego en la época digital. El objetivo de este trabajo es exponer una breve sistematización del concepto de sensorium en vistas de una posible definición en tanto unidad de análisis estético-política. Dicha categoría permite, por un lado, pensar la disciplina Estética como pensamiento político; y por el otro, pensar lo político en clave estética. Para ello el texto repasa los diversos sentidos que ha tenido la categoría a lo largo de la historia, según su emergencia en diferentes epistemes. La primera parte recorre ciertos discursos puntuales identificando autores en los cuales se pueden encontrar usos específicos (Newton, Simmel, Benjamin, McLuhan, Kittler, etc.), delineando así una serie de sentidos relacionados con el espacio y el tiempo desde lo estético, lo perceptivo, lo gnoseológico, lo sociológico y lo técnico. A partir de dicho esquema, en la segunda parte se presenta la idea de un “giro sensorial” en los estudios sociopolíticos contemporáneos, donde la idea de sensorium cobra una nueva importancia. Por último, se hace foco en las relaciones conceptuales que se derivan del uso que propone Rancière en torno a la categoría. En base a dicho recorrido el texto busca delinear una serie de elementos para abrir la posibilidad de definir la Estética como el pensamiento del sensorium común; se trata de una unidad de análisis estético-política que funciona como marco teórico para una morfología de lo social en tanto analítica del orden de lo sensible. In this article we propose to overlap aesthetic experience with medial experience, starting from the assumption that every aesthetic experience is always a medial experience. Adopting a naturalistic approach, in which we explain what we mean with the term naturalization, we suggest a partial review of the issue. First, we state that human natural language is a kind of technology, made possible by certain physical, cognitive and social features; this sort of biological technology must be considered as an underlying condition (...) for aesthetic experience. Secondly, we suggest the importance of social relationships among various species, demonstrating the role played by this relationships in natural selection: a new perspective will emerge. Thirdly, we explain in more detail why aesthetic experience can be likened to medial experience; in doing so, we offer an epistemological comparison between evolutionary theory and Marshall McLuhan’s approach to media studies. Resulting comparison will offer an original definition of aesthetic experience which rises through the interaction engaged by our natural technologies interacting prosthetically with environment. These objects, however, to be thought, must first be received, handled, exhausted, covered, used, consumed, handled in their technician structure, questioned, listened, sometimes rejected and sometimes invoked. In the ontology of the artwork and its regimes of existence, Gérard Genette gives but little room to the theory and practice of restoration. However, restoration is seen in relation to the identity of the work itself and to its material and pragmatic temporality and anachronism. In the wake of Nelson Goodman, it is also understood as a form of actuation and implementaion of the aesthetic experience. Starting from these premises, the present essay intends to examine the relationship between Genette’s (...) and Daniel Arasse’s reflections on restoration and the history of art, highlighting their similarities and differences with Cesare Brandi’s theory of restoration and, therefore, pointing out their as yet undischarged debts to Sartre’s phenomenology of image. Anzi, essa affiora spesso, e in modo quasi automatico, nei discorsi inaugurali dei vernissages, nei cataloghi d’arte e nelle laudationes. In questi casi si può parlare della potente atmosfera di un’opera, dell’effetto atmosferico o di una forma di rappresentazione dotata di una valenza maggiormente atmosferica. L’impressione è quella di dover indicare con atmosfera qualcosa di indefinito, di difficilmente esprimi...

L’articolo cerca di spostare il punto di vista sull’intermedialità, ponendo l’accento sul problematico statuto ontologico ed estetico dei media come “intermediari”, vale a dire come agenti dell’“in-fra” e del “tra”. L’articolo riflette sui cortocircuiti ontologici nella formazione della realtà, illustrati dalla massmediatizzazione degli omicidi seriali, considerati qui come una forma perversamente razionale di delusione tecnologica. Inoltre si addentra nell’uso che Karen Barad fa di nozione come “intra-azione” e “taglio agenziale”, allo scopo di gettare luce sui processi attraverso cui gli apparati (...) tecnologici della sensibilità (media) producono realtà, inserendo inserti di apparenza/rilievo tra noi, soggetti umani, e dando così un’esistenza palpabile a ciò che è in opera “in” e “tra” noi. L’articolo conclude con osservazioni su alcune delle implicazioni che tale riflessione ontologica potrebbe avere per l’estetica. (shrink)

1 Introduzione La Fiorentina è una squadra di calcio dalla vita ultimamente piuttosto travagliata. Maurizio Ferraris, citando un’acuta osservazione di un suo studente, dà un’interessante descrizione di questa sua complicata esistenza: L’ac Fiorentina, nata il 26 agosto 1926, fallisce nel luglio 2002, e cessa ufficialmente di esistere. Jahrhunderts bis zur Kritik der Urteilskraft, in which he works on a systematic project about a “logic of individuality”. The essay has the aim to analyze the genetic relationship between aesthetic faculties and symbolic performances. The field chosen by the author for his remark is the work of Walter Benjamin, in which the centrality of the subject is detectable both in its first and in its last part. Following the theory of Fabrizio Desideri’s last book La percezione riflessa and trying to apply its results to this specific field, the essay sheds light on the mimetic link between symbol and (...) perception, therefore it results perspicuous the role of aesthetic faculties in the genesis of human symbolism. From Charles Darwin, the theoretical framework of evolutionary aesthetics is sexual selection. Recent debate focuses the attention particularly on the criterion of female choice. The aim of this article is to sketch a Darwinian way to aesthetics complementary to the one that Darwin himself present in The descent of man (1871). A series of notes in the Darwin's notebooks traditionally known as “ Metaphysical Enquiries ” will constitute the point of departure for a hypothetical reconstruction of evolutionary history of aesthetic.
