Why "System and Freedom"? Why "Rationality and Improvisation"? These are the two questions that are at the origin of the conference "System and freedom. Rationality and improvisation between philosophy, art and human practices". The conference, held on 28-31 January 2015 in the premises of the University of Turin and organized by the Center for Philosophical-religious Studies Luigi Pareyson, thanks to funding from the Piedmont Region, and with the sponsorship of the Interuniversity Center of Morphology Francesco Moiso, had a large audience (...) participation. There have been many reasons and reflections reported in this article, on the theme of improvisation and freedom, analyzed from a philosophical point of view. The very high quality of the speeches from the invited speakers and of all the speakers, the wide and lively public participation and certainly the intensity of the discussions contributed to the success of this long meeting. It considers also the systematic structures of the Principien, with particular attention to the doctrine of manifestation. L’esistenza dell’assoluto. Sulla Dottrina della scienza 1805 - The Doctrine of Science of 1805, which Fichte developed at the University of Erlangen, is a philosophical reflection displaying great theoretical vigour. It can be seen as consisting of two parts: the theory of existence or of knowledge and the theory of form or of objectivity. In this work Fichte makes a criticism of certain concepts of Schelling, as expounded in Philosophy and Religion , concerning the relationship between thought and life, between (...) subjectivity and absolute reason and between form and being, as well as the idea of nothingness. Considered here to be the central concept in Fichte’s doctrine is the idea of knowledge or of thought as absolute existence and as the existence of the absolute. (shrink)

Der vorliegende Band befasst sich zentral mit dem Problem der Anwendung der Transzendentalphilosophie auf die praktische Philosophie. Zu Ehren von Marco Ivaldo haben sich einige der führenden Fichte-Interpreten zusammengetan, um das Thema diachronisch zu behandeln. Angefangen bei Kant bis hin zur zeitgenössischen Philosophie werden einige der philosophischen Hauptpositionen (Kant, Fichte, Hegel, Husserl, Deleuze und viele weitere) auf ihre Verträglichkeit mit dem transzendentalphilosophischen Ansatz in praktischer Hinsicht geprüft. ********************** The present volume deals with the problem of the application of (...) transcendental philosophy to practical philosophy. In my contribution i would like to consider a thesis of Reinhard Lauth, according to which Fichte’s Doctrine of Science must be properly characterized as theory of the Bilden, as “Bildenslehre”. In his late Berlin lectures Fichte understands Wissen, in its actuality, as “Bild”. Knowledge is image and identifies itself as an image. The image as such shows a reflective and relational structure. The image presents an essential self-reflexivity and does not exist in isolation, but is a relationship to something (...) else which Fichte designates as being, life, light, one, God. The basic idea of Fichte is that we have access to reality only through the image and in it, within a transcendental unity of being and thinking that must be conceived not as a fact, but as an act. The term and concept Bilden expresses well the dynamic and active nature characteristic of the image. i try to explain this on the basis of certain passages of the Doctrine of Science of 1804. Fichte’s doctrine of science is a theory and practice of thinking, which reconstructs the constituent acts of “knowledge”. As “system of freedom” is therefore in Fichte’s Transcendental Philosophy not only a system of knowledge, but also, and at the same time, the never definitive result of an activity of thinking, which is never satisfied with the results already obtained and deals with new issues. It was Fichte’s fundamental conviction that the construction of the theory of science as an “art” of (...) reflection presupposes the formation of a particular “organ” of reflection or of “seeing”. This inner sense is called the “sense of philosophy”. A genuine philosophical attitude presupposes the formation of the sense of philosophy and can come into being only through it. In this paper, the issue of the formation of the philosophical sense is taken into consideration, such as Fichte has developed it in the Introduction to the theory of science of autumn 1813 at the University of Berlin.Fichtes Wissenschaftslehre stellt eine Theorie und Praxis des Denkens dar, welche die konstituierenden Akte des „Wissens“ zum Thema hat. Als „System der Freiheit“ erweist sich daher die Transzendentalphilosophie Fichtes nicht nur als System der Erkenntnisse, sondern auch, und zugleich, als nie definitives Ergebnis einer Tätigkeit des Denkens, das sich mit den errungenen Resultaten nie zufrieden gibt und sich mit neuen Fragestellungen auseinandersetzt. Es war Fichtes grundlegende Überzeugung, dass die Konstruktion der Wissenschaftslehre als „Kunst“ der Besinnung die Bildung eines bestimmten „Organs“ des Besinnens bzw. des Sehens voraussetzt und fordert. Dieser innere Sinn wird als „Sinn für die Philosophie“ bezeichnet. Die echte philosophische Haltung hat die Bildung des Sinnes für die Philosophie zur Voraussetzung und kann erst durch ihn zustande kommen. In diesem Aufsatz wird das Thema der Bildung des philosophischen Sinnes in Betracht genommen, wie Fichte es in der Einleitung in die Wissenschaftslehre von Herbst 1813 an der Universität Berlin entfaltet hat. The aim of my contribution is to show that Fichte in the Anweisung zum seeligen Leben confronts the charge of nihilism raised against the Wissenschaftslehre by Jacobi in his “Open Letter” to Fichte of 1799. Although the term “nihilism” does not appear in the text of the Anweisung, it is nevertheless evident that the problem of nihilism, which Jacobi placed at the center of philosophical discussions, has influenced the development of the fundamental thought of this work. The transcendental ontology of (...) the Anweisung expresses in popular form the principles of the Wissenschaftslehre during the period 1804–1807. In this popular work Fichte endeavors to show that the principles of the Wissenschaftslehre do not result in the “annihilation” of reality, as Jacobi seems to have thought, but contain instead the core of a profound theory of life. Philosophy is conceived of in the Anwweisung as a self-critical and reflective way of looking at life, and thus it should not be confused either with a “totalitarian” way of thinking nor with a purely deconstructive way of thinking ; instead, philosophy is characterized here as a “reasonable understanding of reality”.Mein Beitrag will zeigen, dass Fichte sich in der Anweisung zum seeligen Leben vom Jahre 1806 mit dem Vorwurf des Nihilismus gegen die Wissenschaftslehre auseinandergesetzt hat, den Jacobi im Sendschreiben An Fichte im Jahre 1799 geäußert hatte. Selbst wenn im Text der Anweisung das Wort Nihilismus als solches faktisch nicht vorkommt, lässt sich dennoch behaupten, dass das Problem des Nihilismus, durch Jacobi in den Mittelpunkt der philosophischen Diskussionen gerückt, auf die Ausarbeitung des Grundgedankens dieses Werkes eingewirkt hat. Die transzendentale Ontologie der Anweisung bringt in populärer Form die Grundgedanken der Wissenschaftslehren des Zeitraums 1804–1807 zum Ausdruck. Fichte unternimmt darin den Versuch nachzuweisen, dass die Wissenschaftslehre in ihren Prinzipien und ihrer Entfaltung keine Vernichtung der Wirklichkeit vollzieht, wie Jacobi zu meinen scheint, sondern dass sie den zentralen Kern einer grundlegenden Lebenslehre beinhaltet. Philosophie wird in der Anweisung als selbstkritische und reflexive Darstellung des Einen Lebens konzipiert, welche weder mit einem „totalitären“ Denken noch mit einem bloß dekonstruierenden Denken zu verwechseln ist, sondern sich als „vernünftige Durchdringung der Wirklichkeit“ auszeichnet.
