Reseña de FRASER, Nancy: Dilemas de la justicia en el siglo XXI. Género y globalización , Mª Antonia Carbonero Gamundí y Joaquín Valdivielso (eds.), Edicions UIB, 2011.

Armado de espíritu crítico y una espléndida formación en el universo de la filosofía hermenéutica, en los desarrollos de la filosofía contemporánea, así como en pedagogía y sociología de la educación, Joaquín Esteban Ortega elabora en Memoria, hermenéutica y educación una reflexión equilibrada, imbuida, por una parte, de la vocación totalizadora de la filosofía como pensamiento sobre la actualidad, y por otra de la actualización del saber históricamente acaecido que toda reflexión filosófica implica: es justo, pues, atribuir inteligencia al interés (...) del lector de hoy día por las perspectivas multidisciplinarias. Ahora bien, cuando confrontamos esta tendencia actual a favor de la complejidad interdisciplinaria con la desmemoria, dogmatización o anquilosamiento y fundamentalización de tradiciones con las que, en ocasiones, se afronta la misión socializadora de la educación, entonces nos encontramos con que es de justicia acercar la filosofía a la educación. La motivación última del libro es mostrar la voluntad de divergencia, de diferencia, de la filosofía y de la educación y de qué modo: método y razón de ser de una y otra convergen en el paradigma hermenéutico. Mas vayamos por partes, ya que se requiere de una contextualización previa para comprender la razón de ser de esa conciliación entre estos dos saberes. (shrink)

Experimental high-energy and nuclear physics was created in Spain thanks to Joaquín Catalá de Alemany, who founded the Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC) at the University of Valencia in 1950. The physics of photographic emulsions, cheap and easy to manipulate, were well adapted to the depressed situation in Spain following the Civil War. This essay describes how, using these techniques, Catalá de Alemany created a group, established links with international laboratories, and fostered a tradition that continues today.

Agustín Serrano de Haro edita y presenta en el volumen colectivo Cuerpo vivido una selección de textos memorables en torno a lo que en 1925 fue denominado programáticamente por Ortega y Gasset una “topografía de nuestra intimidad”. La reflexión fenomenológica acerca del intracuerpo fue un tema que ha preocupado y preocupa de manera notoria a los filósofos cuyos trabajos reúne este colectivo: Ortega y Gasset, José Gaos, Joaquín Xirau, Leopoldo-Eulogio Palacios y Agustín Serrano de Haro. Pese a ello, tal vez (...) no sea tan conocido de todos nosotros el hecho de que las investigaciones filosóficas acerca del cuerpo humano (siempre sentido por uno mismo y reconocido por otros de modo intransferible) resultaron ser contribuciones pioneras y anticipaciones preclaras del tema actual del cuerpo y la corporalidad. The purpose of this paper is to show through the concrete example of epileptic seizure anticipation how neuro-dynamic analysis and “pheno-dynamic” analysis may guide and determine each other. We will show that this dynamic approach to epileptic seizure makes it possible to consolidate the foundations of a cognitive non pharmacological therapy of epilepsy. We will also show through this example how the neuro-phenomenological co-determination could shed new light on the difficult problem of the “gap” which separates subjective experience from neurophysiological (...) activity. Human languages vary in many ways but also show striking cross-linguistic universals. Why do these universals exist? Recent theoretical results demonstrate that Bayesian learners transmitting language to each other through iterated learning will converge on a distribution of languages that depends only on their prior biases about language and the quantity of data transmitted at each point; the structure of the world being communicated about plays no role (Griffiths & Kalish, , ). We revisit these findings and show that when (...) certain assumptions about the relationship between language and the world are abandoned, learners will converge to languages that depend on the structure of the world as well as their prior biases. These theoretical results are supported with a series of experiments showing that when human learners acquire language through iterated learning, the ultimate structure of those languages is shaped by the structure of the meanings to be communicated. We propose an extension of answer sets, that we call safe beliefs, that can be used to study several properties and notions of answer sets and logic programming from a more general point of view. Our definition, based on intuitionistic logic and following ideas from D. Pearce [Stable inference as intuitionistic validity, Logic Programming 38 79–91], also provides a general approach to define several semantics based on different logics or inference systems. We prove that, in particular, intuitionistic logic can be (...) replaced with any other proper intermediate logic without modifying the resulting semantics. We also show that the answer set semantics satisfies an important property, the “extension by definition”, that can be used to construct program translations. As a result we are able to provide a polynomial translation from propositional theories into the class of disjunctive programs. (shrink)

It is generally accepted that, around the turn of the century, GIBBS and EINSTEIN independently developed two equivalent formulations of statistical mechanics. GIBBS version is taken as genuine and rigorous, while EINSTEINs, despite some features which are characteristic of him, is usually considered a not totally satisfactory attempt.It will be shown in the present work that such a picture is oversimplified and requires further nuancing. In fact, there are significant differences, with important implications which have not been sufficiently examined, between (...) the two formulations. Several issues relating to the impact of the two versions will also be addressed. (shrink)

En el presente trabajo analizamos la formación de la mujer musulmana en las revistas digitales oficiales del grupo Daesh: Dabiq y Rumiyah. Llevamos a cabo un análisis de contenido cualitativo de los artículos destinados a la mujer musulmana y aquellos en los que se habla específicamente de ellas. Para el análisis de los datos utilizamos el software Atlas.ti. Daesh promueve una clara desigualdad de género, considerando que la mujer musulmana debe ser casta, modesta, obediente, fiel y sumisa. Le otorgan roles (...) tradicionales como madre y esposa. Resulta imperante diseñar medidas educativas preventivas que incluyan la perspectiva del feminismo islámico. (shrink)

The word έρμηνϵία (ermeneia) means expression and interpretation of a thought, from which the word “hermeneutics” comes. Some authors maintain that the name of the Greek god Hermes subsequently came from the same root. Hermes was the brother of Apollo and Athene and the son of Zeus and Maia, from which it could be deduced that he is paired by family lineage with images of light on the one hand and darkness and opacity on the other. Both metaphors remind us (...) that the expression and interpretation of thoughts may follow either a rational or an irrational order. The fact that most authors agree that it was after the expansion of Greek culture that the problem of interpretation acquired such marked prominence gives us an idea of the connection between hermeneutics and otherness. En este trabajo ofrezco un análisis de algunas de las ideas más importantes sostenidas por Ricardo Caracciolo en su ensayo sobre hechos y justifi cación de las decisiones judiciales. Estas tesis son: a) tesis de la aplicación posible. Las normas generales sólo se pueden aplicar a los casos que ellas regulan; b) tesis de la aplicación efectiva. Una norma general es aplicada a un hecho sólo si la premisa que describe ese hecho es verdadera. Este artículo muestra que hay buenas (...) razones para revisar ambas tesis ya que ellas pasan por alto una distinción relevante entre distintos sentidos de ‘casos individual’: casos individuales de un universo del discurso y casos individuales de un caso genérico. Como consecuencia de ello, se señala que es necesario modelar un concepto de justifi cación jurídica que no presuponga a esas mencionadas tesis. (shrink)

In order to fulfil their essential roles as the bearers of truth and the relata of logical relations, propositions must be public and shareable. That requirement has favoured Platonist and other nonmental views of them, despite the well-known problems of Platonism in general. Views that propositions are mental entities have correspondingly fallen out of favour, as they have difficulty in explaining how propositions could have shareable, objective properties. We revive a mentalist view of propositions, inspired by Artificial Intelligence work on (...) perceptual algorithms, which shows how perception causes persistent mental entities with shareable properties that allow them to fulfil the traditional roles of (one core kind of) propositions. The clustering algorithms implemented in perception produce outputs which are (implicit) atomic propositions in different minds. Coordination of them across minds proceeds by game-theoretic processes of communication. The account does not rely on any unexplained notions such as mental content, representation, or correspondence (although those notions are applicable in philosophical analysis of the result). (shrink)
