The aim of this manuscript is to discuss the reliability and the factorial, convergent and discriminant validities in measurement model of the 21-item Exercise Dependence Scale Revised used for diagnosing exercise addiction. A study was conducted among 695 Lebanese bilingual young adults who filled the English version of this questionnaire, along with a general questionnaire. This study showed that, despite an acceptable fit index confirming the 7-factor structure and invariance across gender, exercise duration and age groups; the EDS-R lacks in (...) reliability and convergent and discriminant validities in measurement model, due particularly to the “Reduction in other activities” subscale. The construction of the EDS-R is then to be discussed. (shrink)

Prof. Dr. Erich Frank, a well-known expert on diabetes, and his dietician Elisabeth Wolff, both having refuged from the 1933's Germany. Wolff, one of the early leading and example representatives of the dietetic arising new in the world and Europa at that time, presented and taught the new treatment (...) in Turkey where she worked for 32 years. Frank cooperated intensively with her to establish a modern diabetes treatment with uptodate methods in Turkey. It was her, too, who wrote the first scientifically based book of high practical value in Turkey on the dietary treatment of internal diseases. (shrink)

A Turkish patient with AIDS attempted to commit suicide. Turkey is one of the countries where AIDS education in society and for health personnel has started rather late. This article documents what this patient, his sister and his friends, who helped him to survive for a short while, experienced in the hospital environment. This is a real case history and should be considered from various aspects because suicide was attempted by a person with AIDS who was near the terminal stage. (...) The patient’s friends made a remarkable effort to help him to survive. They were unsure about what to do because they had not respected his wishes and they experienced deep alienation because of the extremely negative attitude of the medical staff. (shrink)

Following the American indie cinema boom of the 1990s and the creation of "specialty" divisions by several Hollywood studios, many predicted an end to both the indie sector's viability and the making of films with ambitions beyond the commercial mainstream. Yet, as Geoff King demonstrates, plenty of distinct indie productions continue to thrive, even in the face of difficult economic circumstances. Recasting the term "indie" to denote a particular form of independent feature production that has risen to prominence in the (...) twenty-first century, King identifies and discusses the new opportunities available to indie filmmakers. These new options and techniques include low-cost digital video and a range of Internet and social-media ventures providing funding, distribution, promotion, and sales. He also covers the ultra-low-budget "mumblecore" movement; the social realism of such filmmakers as Kelly Reichardt and Ramin Bahrani; the "digital desktop" aesthetics of Jonathan Caouette's Tarnation and Arin Crumley and Susan Buice's Four Eyed Monsters ; and the affect of certain dominant discourses, such as the articulation of notions of "true" indie film and its opposition to what some see as the quirky contrivances of crossover hits such as Little Miss Sunshine and Juno.
