Although the last decade has seen a proliferation of ontological approaches to arguments, many of them employ ad hoc solutions to representing arguments, lack interoperability with other ontologies, or cover arguments only as part of a broader approach to evidence. To provide a better ontological representation of arguments, we present the Arguments Ontology (ArgO), a small ontology for arguments that is designed to be imported and easily extended by researchers who work in different upper-level ontology frameworks, different logics, and (...) different approaches to argument evaluation. Unlike most ontological approaches to arguments, ArgO utilizes Basic Formal Ontology (BFO) as an upper-level ontology, and may be used alongside other commonly used ontologies in the BFO framework, including boththe Information Artifact Ontology (IAO), and the Information Entity Ontology (INFO). Critically, our proposal is principled, based on rigorous definitions and formal axioms out of which characterizations of arguments naturally fall. It is our hope that ArgO may assist researchers in many projects, including: integrating heterogeneous sources of evidence, structuring the content of semantic wikis, and enhancing semantic reasoning. Semantic interoperability requires the use of standards, not only for Electronic Health Record (EHR) data to be transferred and structurally mapped into a receiving repository, but also for the clinical content of the EHR to be interpreted in conformity with the original meanings intended by its authors. Accurate and complete clinical documentation, faithful to the patient’s situation, and interoperability between systems, require widespread and dependable access to published and maintained collections of coherent and quality-assured semantic resources, including models such as (...) archetypes and templates that would (1) provide clinical context, (2) be mapped to interoperability standards for EHR data, (3) be linked to well specified, multi-lingual terminology value sets, and (4) be derived from high quality ontologies. Wide-scale engagement with professional bodies, globally, is needed to develop these clinical information standards. (shrink)

La découverte récente de l'appartenance de Cléonai à Argos pendant la période qui va de l'époque des diadoques à 235 environ permet de reprendre sous un jour nouveau l'étude de l'inscription IG IV 616, où le Koinon des Arcadiens et la cité de Stymphale sont frappés d'amendes évaluées en χρυσοί. Loin de se rapporter à l'Anolympias de 364, selon une hypothèse de M. Fränkel qui a connu un grand succès, elle émane d'Argos et a trait aux concours néméens. Elle pourrait (...) dater de 315, année où Cassandre, victorieux de Stymphale et de cités arcadiennes, célèbre les concours à Némée. Dans cette perspective, il faut admettre que le Koinon des Arcadiens a survécu à la guerre lamiaque ou, au moins, a été restauré au début des années 320-310. (shrink)

This paper is an attempt to elucidate the senses in which this place-name is used in Homer; to assign meanings to the Homeric terms Achaean, Iason and Pelasgic Arge, to ‘Argive’ as a synonym for Greek, and to establish the nature of the Argos over which Agamemnon ruled. I take the Homeric poems as the unity which they profess to be, and which they must be for historical enquiry. Whatever liberties Homer took with his materials it is plain he was (...) careful to respect events. The effort to distinguish between old and new in the Iliad and Odyssey has caused needless and fruitless encumbrance to the official historians, such as Busolt; the Unitarian position has given us the remarkable results of Professor Myres' . The consistency of Mr. Myres' account, and I venture to hope of mine, allows a fresh inference back to the homogeneity of the poems which are their source. (shrink)

A. Oikonomou, Lampes paléochrétiennes d'Argos. P. 481-502 En 1983, à Argos, une fouille d'urgence dans un cimetière paléochrétien a donné 116 lampes qui copient ou imitent des modèles corinthiens du me et du ive s., des types nord- africains, siciliens ou d'Asie Mineure. Elles ressemblent beaucoup quant à l'argile, la technique et le décor à des exemplaires de la «Fountain of Lamps» du Gymnase de Corinthe. Certaines d'entre elles sont d'origine argienne, d'autres des importations corinthiennes.

Traitant d'abord des subdivisions de la cité, l'auteur maintient qu'il y avait à Argos, selon la terminologie due à W. Vollgrafï et en usage depuis 1916, des phratries (avec une légère réserve) et des kômès (sans restriction). Puis il pose en principe que les variations constatées dans la nomenclature des citoyens argiens durant la période 338-195 n'ont pas pu être dépourvues de sens, et il émet quelques hypothèses propres à en rendre compte.

Themistokles was ostracized in the late 470's, probably in spring 471 or 470; if we are to believe Thucydides, he did not write to Artaxerxes in Persia until 465 at the earliest. In some way or other his stay in Argos and visits to the rest of the Peloponnese, his wanderings in northern Greece, and his delay in Asia Minor must be extended to fill this gap of at least five years. There is evidence of a sort, there are arguments (...) good and bad for the lengthening or shortening of any of these episodes, but none of this evidence or argument is conclusive. Between 470 and 465 no event in Themistokles' life can be securely dated; there is no fixed chronological pattern into which a reconstruction of the political history of Athens and the Peloponnese during these years must fit. Since the reconstruction which I attempt here is itself based on evidence which is far from adequate, plausibility is the most that can be claimed for it or for the chronological scheme which I infer from it. Une stèle argienne, trouvée remployée dans un égout tardif, et malheureusement très usée, porte un texte de loi du 2e ou du 3e quart du Ve siècle av. J.-C, fixant les peines encourues par les coupables de certaines négligences qui sont assimilés à des traîtres. Ce texte est à rapprocher des récits, faits notamment par Thucydide et Énée le Tacticien, des troubles politiques qui déchirent Argos entre 418 et 414.
