Este artículo pretende ser un aporte a un conjunto de debates que se desarrollan en las ciencias sociales, y en la antropología del trabajo en particular, vinculados con las formas de control que se despliegan en los espacios de trabajo. En tal sentido, focalizaremos en las relaciones cotidianas que constituyen, a nuestro entender, una suerte de “reproducción tensionada” de las relaciones de hegemonía/subalternidad. Para estos propósitos, presentaremos el caso del emprendimiento minero metalífero Veladero, explotado por la empresa subsidiaria MAG SRL (...) de las corporaciones Barrick Gold y Shandong Gold, en la Cordillera de los Andes, al noroeste de la Provincia de San Juan, Argentina. En particular, analizamos lo que ocurre cuando la corporación decide mudar la totalidad de un área estratégica de trabajo a cientos de kilómetros del lugar del yacimiento. Este cambio del área denominada Dispatch responde a un reajuste de las estrategias de control por parte de la empresa que explota el yacimiento Veladero. Como analizamos en el artículo, la empresa realiza este reajuste para suturar fisuras que se producen a partir de prácticas cotidianas de los trabajadores que, en cierta forma, atentan contra los objetivos empresarios. This article aims to be a contribution to a set of debates that are developed in social sciences, and in the anthropology of work in particular, linked to the forms of control that are deployed in the work spaces. On this way, we will focus on the daily relationships that constitute, in our understanding, a kind of "stressed reproduction" of the relations of hegemony / subalternityFor these purposes, we will present the case of the Veladero metal mining enterprise exploited by the subsidiary company MAG SRL of the Barrick Gold and Shandong Gold corporations in the Andes mountains, northwest of the Province of San Juan, Argentina. In particular, we analyze what happens when the corporation decides to move the whole of a strategic work area hundreds of kilometers from the site of the mining deposit. This change of the area called Dispatch responds to a readjustment of control strategies by the company that operates the Veladero mining deposit. As we analyzed in the article, the company realizes this readjustment to suture fissures that are produced from the daily practices of the workers that in some way attempt against the business objectives. The philosophical framework of justice proposed by Nancy Fraser during the 1990s establishes two equally crucial dimensions of justice: redistribution, linked to the allocation of economic goods, and recognition, linked to the assignment of social status. This division makes it possible to distinguish between transformative strategies that intervene in the causes of social injustices and affirmative strategies that focus on their effects. However, the author’s treatment of her notion of “two-dimensional category”, which combines inequalities of redistribution and recognition, has limits (...) for thinking about the functioning of certain systems of social subordination and the situation of certain social groups. In this paper, I will use a queer-crip perspective to argue that both heterocissexism and ableism are two-dimensional categories, since they structure an unequal status system, but also sustain, define, and naturalize the capitalist mode of production and are functional to its distribution of economic goods. This critical review allows us to adapt the Fraserian framework to the current socio-political context. (shrink)

This paper explores the symbolic and material implications of the use of DALYs and QALYs as priority or tie-breaker criteria in triage decisions. It aims to answer the question of their ethical permissibility based on the particular case of the COVID-19 pandemic. For this purpose, theories framed in a queer-crip perspective and ethical frameworks of equity will be used. From a queer-crip perspective, the use of DALYs and QALYs in triage decisions discriminates against and excludes people with disabilities, as it (...) allocates scarce resources based on ableist value judgments about people's quality of life, rather than on evidence. From the point of view of equity, it may imply and reinforce structural injustices involving inequities, that is, avoidable or remediable inequalities. This analysis will argue that the use of DALYs and QALYs categories in triage decisions allocates potentially life-saving resources based on ableist value judgments that lead to an unfair distribution of risks, burdens, and costs. Finally, two objections related to the relevance or necessity of using these or similar categories as criteria will be addressed: the independent cases of structural inequities and the inevitability of setting priorities in the face of a crisis. La relación del filósofo Michel Foucault con el cine fue breve pero intensa: hay apenas una decena de textos breves donde da sus impresiones y reflexiona sobre un puñado de películas. En esos textos, producidos entre 1974 y 1982, compilados en Dits et écrits, podemos encontrar una interesante polémica en torno a la memoria histórica y la erotización del poder que ciertos filmes de la época exhibían en relación al nazismo. El presente escrito propone explorar la relación de Foucault con (...) el cine a partir de dos ejes: la tarea de intensificar regiones de nuestra memoria histórica y la posibilidad de deshacer y desorganizar los cuerpos que ofrece la imagen. A su vez, estos ejes deberán ser puestos en relación con la concepción que Foucault tenía sobre la historia y la política. De esta manera, pretendemos valorar la importancia del encuentro del pensador con el cine. (shrink)

El dualismo perspectivista de Nancy Fraser establece dos dimensiones de la justicia: la redistribución, asociada al reparto de bienes económicos, y el reconocimiento, asociado a la asignación de estatus social. Aunque esta división permite distinguir entre estrategias transformadoras que intervienen en las causas de las injusticias sociales y estrategias afirmativas que se enfocan en sus efectos, el tratamiento que hace la autora de su noción de “categoría bidimensional”, la cual combina desigualdades de redistribución y de reconocimiento, posee límites para pensar (...) la situación de determinados grupos sociales. En este trabajo me serviré de una perspectiva queer-crip para sostener que tanto el heterocisexismo como el capacitismo son categorías bidimensionales, ya que no solo estructuran un sistema de estatus desigual, sino también sustentan, definen y naturalizan el modo de producción capitalista y son funcionales a su distribución de bienes económicos. Esta revisión crítica permite adaptar el marco fraseriano al contexto sociopolítico actual. (shrink)

En estudios sobre economía de la salud es usual la utilización de las unidades de medida que ponderan la cantidad de años de vida esperados y la presencia de discapacidad (DALY) o la calidad de vida (QALY) durante dicho período. El objetivo de este trabajo es indagar en los supuestos y las consecuencias éticas del uso de estas unidades de medida como criterios de prioridad o desempate en decisiones de triaje durante la pandemia de COVID-19. Se abordará, en primer lugar, (...) las conexiones entre estas categorías y la perspectiva estándar de la calidad de vida de las personas con discapacidad, según la cual la calidad de vida tales personas son comparativamente inferior a la del resto. En segundo lugar, se argumentará que dicha perspectiva es errónea y que, cuando influye en decisiones de triaje, retroalimenta injusticias estructurales no permisibles desde un marco ético de equidad. Por último, se discutirá la representación de la profundización de los mecanismos que producen desigualdad e injusticia estructural como un período de crisis que justifica estados de emergencia, excepción y urgencia. Esto permitirá mostrar que focalizar únicamente en la necesidad de aplicar criterios individuales de prioridad o desempate en decisiones de triaje durante el COVID-19 se presenta bajo una retórica engañosa que esconde los procesos sistemáticos de exclusión y explotación que han producido gran parte de las condiciones que generan los dilemas del presente, y que obtura medidas integrales, colectivas y a largo plazo. This article analyses different ways of perceiving sports based on the study of cinematographic documentary of the first Olympic Games. The aim is to explore the political discourses and aesthetic senses transmitted through images, studying footages from the beginning of the twentieth century until Berlin 1936, when the aestheticization process became analogous to the sportization process, as Norbert Elias pointed out. This ‘movement-image’—as Gilles Deleuze named it—shows that a set of documentary Olympics footages, especially those produced since Saint Louis Games (...) in 1904, projected meanings about the individual and collective body. The hypothesis is that historic filmed physical activities intended to educate through not only the gaze but also the gaze itself, to form ways of perceiving bodies and practices.The central focus of this paper argues that the informative cinema teaches through the exhibition of educated bodies, but also forms the sensitivity of the viewer perspective. In other words, it not only transmits ways of doing but also forms an ethos, to form ways of perceiving, to form ways of being sensitive. The aim of this study is to explore the political discourses and aesthetic senses transmitted through the Olympic images, which are often loaded with moralism and patriotism. This paper concludes with a conceptual counterpoint between Jacques Rancière and Walter Benjamin about technical reproducibility and political reproduction, considering the aesthetic-political tension that sports put into play. The philosophical transformation carried out Xavier Zubiri, especially in his mature work: Sentient intelligence allows to rethink the bases of rationality in structural unity with the senses, allowing a plurality of ways of accessing reality on its foundation, and surpass, in that way, the monological rationality promoted by positivism and pragmatism. To this end, we move through the different landmarks of Zubiri’s work: first, the primordial apprehension of reality from its multiple sentient openings; then, we stop at the constitution of (...) meaning by logos emphasizing how culture prioritize one type of sense over the rest, forging a type of openness to reality and determining a horizon of meaning for it; later, we inquire into how reason accesses the foundation of the real, this allows us to show how the different rationalities settle their options for meaning. From here we contrast with religious rationality founded on historical-scientific criterion, and a strictly religious one, which, ultimately, allow us to finish systematizing and giving a unity of meaning to the previews proposals that were made. Finally, all this enables us to explore the consequences for a sociology of knowledge, and to think about the conditions of intercultural dialogue, and, subsequently, the scenarios of and interlogical construction. The authors of this volume elucidate the remarkable role played by religion in the shaping and reshaping of narrative forms in antiquity and late antiquity in a variety of ways. This is particularly evident in ancient Jewish and Christian narrative, which is in the focus of most of the contributions, but also in some “pagan” novels such as that of Heliodorus, which is dealt with as well in the third part of the volume, both in an illuminating comparison with Christian (...) novels and in an inspiring rethinking of Heliodorus's relation to Neoplatonism. All of these essays, from different perspectives, illuminate the interplay between narrative and religion, and show how religious concerns and agendas shaped narrative forms in Judaism and early Christianity. A series of compelling and innovative articles, all based on fresh and often groundbreaking research by eminent specialists, is divided into three large sections: part one deals with ancient Jewish narrative, and part two with ancient Christian narrative, in particular gospels, acts, biographies, and martyrdoms, while part three offers a comparison with “pagan” narrative, and especially the religious novel of Heliodorus, both in terms of social perspectives and in terms of philosophical and religious agendas. J'ai choisi comme sujet de cours, en cette seconde année de captivité, de dresser un tableau de la pensée française de 1870 à 1940, c'est-à-dire entre deux grands désastres pour la France. Il m'a semblé que cette époque avait été en philosophie une grande époque, non seulement parce qu'elle avait été marquée par de très grands noms et de très hardis efforts, mais encore parce que la philosophie, à l'inverse de ce qui se passait auparavant, avait pénétré dans des domaines (...) qui jusqu'ici ne recevaient qu'un éclairage indirect - je songe à la littérature, l'art, la politique, la religion, la mystique. J'ai pensé qu'après la secousse si douloureuse de 1940, et avant que notre patrie retrouve sa place dans le concert intellectuel des nations, il était nécessaire que nous prenions conscience de notre tradition présente, du mouvement des esprits et des directions vers lesquelles ce mouvement tend. Ces tableaux synthétiques des efforts, ces bilans sont utiles à tous les temps, soit pour faire comprendre aux esprits la valeur respective des diverses pensées, soit pour leur permettre de se mieux saisir en se situant à leur exacte latitude, soit enfin pour faire saisir les lacunes et faire surgir des vocations précises. Le Rapport inimitable de Ravaisson est le modèle du genre, et c'est à lui que nous nous référons, c'est de lui que nous partons. Mais un tableau de ce genre est plus utile encore après les grandes crises. Il n'est pas rare, dans l'histoire, de voir les périodes qui suivent les désastres être fécondes dans le domaine des idées. Le relèvement de l'Allemagne après 1806 s'est fait par l'entremise de Fichte et du réveil simultané de la tradition philosophique et de la tradition nationale. Ce sont les fils de ceux qui avaient souffert en 1870 qui ont fait la France nouvelle ; il est frappant de voir quelle sève montait dans ses hommes qui sont nés autour de 1870, qu'ils s'appellent Poincaré, Pétain, Foch, Clemenceau, ou Barrès, Bergson, Boutroux, Blondel. Là se vérifie encore le mot de Pascal, qu'il faut s'offrir par les humiliations aux inspirations, qui seules font le vrai et salutaire effet. (shrink)

Hormis les œuvres de Comte lui-même, rien n'a peut-être autant contribué à faire connaître le positivisme que cet opuscule. A la différence des autres grands classiques des études comtiennes, il ne s'agit pas d'un travail universitaire, ce qui n'a pas été pour rien dans son succès. L'auteur ne s'adresse pas aux seuls spécialistes, et offre, en deux cents pages, une vue d'ensemble qui, si elle demande à être corrigée sur bien des points, ne manque pas de mérites. Pour qui ne (...) connaît l'œuvre de Comte que par ouï-dire et s'en tient au sens actuel de positivisme, la lecture fera l'effet d'une découverte. La présence de Clemenceau au côté de Comte et de Mill témoigne de ce que la politique positive n'était pas moins importante alors que la philosophie positive. Si nos contemporains s'obstinent à refuser à Comte la place qui lui revient, c'est qu'ils ne savent que faire d'un penseur qui, n'étant ni révolutionnaire ni libéral, met en échec les schèmes classificatoires aujourd'hui en vigueur. La présentation du Cours et du Système est accompagnée d'un examen critique. Depuis 1865, les temps ont bien changé, mais le débat entre les deux auteurs n'a rien perdu de son actualité. (shrink)

La invasión napoleónica a la Península Ibérica provocó una crisis de legitimidad política en las principales ciudades y provincias chilenas. Lo que comenzó como una revolución autonomista derivó con el tiempo en una guerra civil con aspiraciones separatistas. Este artículo estudia este contexto de guerra civil revolucionaria en un período clave de la historia de Chile: el gobierno de Bernardo O’Higgins. Para ello, se han escogido los reportes y cartas preparadas por cinco agentes estadounidenses residentes en el país durante la (...) administración o’higginista. Ellos muestran importantes aspectos sobre el faccionalismo y sobre el involucramiento de los estadounidenses en las disputas entre la denominada Logia Lautaro y el grupo liderado por José Miguel Carrera. Asimismo, permiten hacerse una idea de las tratativas del gobierno de O’Higgins por alcanzar el reconocimiento de la independencia chilena de parte de Estados Unidos y el valor asignado por las elites chilenas a los regímenes republicano y monárquico. In Intolerance, Polemics, and Debate in Antiquity scholars reflect on politico-cultural, philosophical, and religious forms of critical conversation in the ancient Near Eastern, Biblical, Graeco-Roman, and early-Islamic world. They enquire into the boundaries between debate, polemics, and intolerance, and address their manifestations in both philosophy and religion. This cross-cultural and inclusive approach shows that debate and polemics are not so different as often assumed, since polemics may also indicate that ultimate values are at stake. Polemics can also have a positive (...) effect, stimulating further cultural development. Intolerance is more straightforwardly negative. Religious intolerance is often a justification for politics, but also elite rationalism can become totalitarian. The volume also highlights the importance of the fluency of minorities in the dominant discourses and of their ability to develop contrapuntal lines of thought within a common cultural discourse. En 1868, un jeune médecin promis à un bel avenir politique, Georges Clémenceau, met sa connaissance de l'anglais au service d'un ouvrage déjà célèbre Outre-Manche, le commentaire critique que John Stuart Mill a donné de la philosophie d'Auguste Comte. Auguste Comte et le positivisme marque ainsi la singulière rencontre de ces trois noms prestigieux, dans un formidable débat philosophique. Il en résulte un texte remarquable, tant par la qualité des protagonistes que par celle du traducteur, dont l'élaboration nous est rapportée (...) par Michel Bourdeau, à qui on en doit la réédition, dans l'introduction qu'il donne à l'ouvrage: il y a d'abord la «forte secousse» que ressent Mill à la lecture de Comte, son enthousiasme, la réaction heureuse du vieux positiviste, et finalement la prise de distance circonspecte du premier.
