    Partitions of large Rado graphs.M. Džamonja, J. A. Larson & W. J. Mitchell - 2009 - Archive for Mathematical Logic 48 (6):579-606.
Let κ be a cardinal which is measurable after generically adding ${\beth_{\kappa+\omega}}$ many Cohen subsets to κ and let ${\mathcal G= ( \kappa,E )}$ be the κ-Rado graph. We prove, for 2 ≤ m < ω, that there is a finite value ${r_m^+}$ such that the set [κ] m can be partitioned into classes ${\langle{C_i:i (...)

    Indivisible sets and well‐founded orientations of the Rado graph.Nathanael L. Ackerman & Will Brian - 2019 - Mathematical Logic Quarterly 65 (1):46-56.
Every set can been thought of as a directed graph whose edge relation is ∈. We show that many natural examples of directed graphs of this kind are indivisible: for every infinite κ, for every indecomposable λ, and every countable model of set theory. All of the countable digraphs we consider are orientations of the countable random graph. In this way we find indivisible well‐founded orientations of the random graph that are distinct up to isomorphism, and ℵ1 (...)

The Ramsey theory of Henson graphs.Natasha Dobrinen - 2022 - Journal of Mathematical Logic 23 (1).
Analogues of Ramsey’s Theorem for infinite structures such as the rationals or the Rado graph have been known for some time. In this context, one looks for optimal bounds, called degrees, for the number of colors in an isomorphic substructure rather than one color, as that is often impossible. Such theorems for Henson graphs however remained elusive, due to lack of techniques for handling forbidden cliques. Building on the author’s recent result for the triangle-free Henson graph, we (...)

The Ramsey theory of the universal homogeneous triangle-free graph.Natasha Dobrinen - 2020 - Journal of Mathematical Logic 20 (2):2050012.

The objective of the present essay is to show that the traditional dilemma of philosophy, namely, does science think or does not think, has today become the problem that science itself has to solve. To assert that science thinks means first that science, when it thinks, constructs its object in an always specific manner; second, in construing its object, it adds to it the real, i.e., a reference, external to the scientific construction itself, which science then discovers as the basis (...)

This article aims at clarifying the status of the Idea in two of Badiou's recent works: Second manifeste pour la philosophie and L'hypothèse communiste. Badiou sets out from the assumption that the operation with the Idea implies an affirmation of the materialism of a philosophy that is under the conditon of four generic procedures. In his attempt to elaborate Badiou's materialism of the Idea, the author does not turn to Plato, as one would expect, but, rather, to Kant's theory of (...)

This study evaluated the effects of an exergame program combined with traditional tennis training on autonomic regulation, tennis technique, gross motor skills, clinical reaction time, and cognitive inhibitory control in children. Sixty-three children were randomized into four groups and compared at baseline, 6-month immediately post intervention and at 1-year follow-up post intervention. At 6-month post intervention the combined exergame and regular training sessions revealed: higher breathing frequency, heart rate and lower skin conductance levels during exergaming; additional benefits in the point (...)

Ramsey Theory for Countable Binary Homogeneous Structures.Jean A. Larson - 2005 - Notre Dame Journal of Formal Logic 46 (3):335-352.
Countable homogeneous relational structures have been studied by many people. One area of focus is the Ramsey theory of such structures. After a review of background material, a partition theorem of Laflamme, Sauer, and Vuksanovic for countable homogeneous binary relational structures is discussed with a focus on the size of the set of unavoidable colors.

    An ordinal partition avoiding pentagrams.Jean A. Larson - 2000 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 65 (3):969-978.
Suppose that α = γ + δ where $\gamma \geq \delta > 0$ . Then there is a graph G = (ω ω α ,E) which has no independent set of order type ω ω α and has no pentagram (a pentagram is a set of five points with all pairs joined by edges). In the notation of Erdos and Rado, who generalized Ramsey's Theorem to this setting, $\omega^{\omega^\alpha} \nrightarrow (\omega^{\omega^\alpha},5)^2.$.

    Rado’s Conjecture and its Baire version.Jing Zhang - 2019 - Journal of Mathematical Logic 20 (1):1950015.
Rado’s Conjecture is a compactness/reflection principle that says any nonspecial tree of height ω1 has a nonspecial subtree of size ℵ1. Though incompatible with Martin’s Axiom, Rado’s Conjecture turns out to have many interesting consequences that are also implied by certain forcing axioms. In this paper, we obtain consistency results concerning Rado’s Conjecture and its Baire version. In particular, we show that a fragment of PFA, which is the forcing axiom for Baire Indestructibly Proper forcings, is compatible (...)

Todorčević showed that Rado's Conjecture implies CC*, a strengthening of Chang's Conjecture. We generalize this by showing that also CC**, a global version of CC*, follows from RC. As a corollary we obtain that RC implies Semistationary Reflection and, i.e. the statement that all forcings that preserve the stationarity of subsets of ω1 are semiproper.

    A graph-theoretic analysis of the semantic paradoxes.Timo Beringer & Thomas Schindler - 2017 - Bulletin of Symbolic Logic 23 (4):442-492.
We introduce a framework for a graph-theoretic analysis of the semantic paradoxes. Similar frameworks have been recently developed for infinitary propositional languages by Cook and Rabern, Rabern, and Macauley. Our focus, however, will be on the language of first-order arithmetic augmented with a primitive truth predicate. Using Leitgeb’s notion of semantic dependence, we assign reference graphs (rfgs) to the sentences of this language and define a notion of paradoxicality in terms of acceptable decorations of rfgs with truth values. It (...)

Modeling mechanisms is central to the biological sciences – for purposes of explanation, prediction, extrapolation, and manipulation. A closer look at the philosophical literature reveals that mechanisms are predominantly modeled in a purely qualitative way. That is, mechanistic models are conceived of as representing how certain entities and activities are spatially and temporally organized so that they bring about the behavior of the mechanism in question. Although this adequately characterizes how mechanisms are represented in biology textbooks, contemporary biological research practice (...)
