Ronald M. Yoshida: “Reduction in The Physical Sciences.” Dalhousie: Dalhousie University Press, 1977. 90 pages. [REVIEW]Cliff Hooker - 1979 - Dialogue 18 (1):81-99.
Yoshida's explicit aim is to defend the standard empiricist model of reduction-bydeduction from recent attacks. Thus the treatment is limited in both scope and orientation.I shall argue that Yoshida does not succeed. The failure is both internal and external.

自然主義論争の構図について——吉田敬『社会科学の哲学入門』の批判的検討(On the Naturalism/Interpretivism Debate: A Critical Review of Kei Yoshida's Philosophy of the Social Sciences: An Introduction).Yuya Shimizu & Yuta Kobayashi - 2023 - Kagaku Tetsugaku 56 (1):111–128.
Kei Yoshida’s recent book Philosophy of the Social Sciences: An Introduction is the first introductory textbook on the philosophy of the social sciences written in Japanese. It concisely expounds on a wide range of topics in the discipline, while its explication of those topics is not impartial or neutral as the author himself says. This paper gives a critical review of the book. The first half of it briefly overviews and assesses the book as a whole. The latter half (...)

    A critical perspective on a critical perspective on social science.David K. Henderson - 2015 - Metascience 24 (3):457-461.
Yoshida considers two broad understandings of how social scientists can and should “describe and explain other cultures or their aspects under concepts of rationality” . In the one corner is a family of approaches that Yoshida finds deeply flawed: cultural interpretivist approaches. Five authors representative of this family are given fine chapter length examinations: Winch, Taylor, Geertz, Sahlins, and Obeyesekere. In the other corner is Yoshida’s favored approach: critical rationalism. This approach is associated with the intellectual descendants (...)

Le chat-monstre dans Meigetsu-ki de Fujiwara no Teika : première occurrence du terme nekomata dans la littérature japonaise? The Monster Cat in Meigetsu-ki by Fujiwara no Teika: the First Occurrence of the Term Nekomata in Japanese Literature?Kôji Watanabe, Tomomi Yoshino & Olivier Lorrillard - 2021 - Iris 41.

Rainer Schulzer - 2022 - Verlag Karl Alber.
Only rarely do foreign visitors find their way to the Temple Garden of Philosophy, located away from the busy shopping streets and off the beaten tourist track in the Japanese capital. In this book, the World Sages, to whose memory the shrine in the centre of the Garden is dedicated, are presented as existential thinkers in four essays by Japanese and German scholars. In a detailed introduction, the author and translator of the volume sketches an intellectual framework that places the (...)

  26. Shinto as a Religion for the Warrior Class.Bernhard Scheid - 2002 - Japanese Journal of Religious Studies 29 (3-4):298-324.
This article deals with developments of Shinto in the seventeenth century, focussing on the school of Yoshikawa Shinto. It is presented as an example of the coalition between Shinto and Neo-Confucianism intellectuals typical for that time. Pointing out the medieval predecessors of this coalition, the article argues that the theological ideas of Yoshikawa Shinto were much more indebted to medieval Shinto than is generally assumed. This is demonstrated by a doctrinal comparison as well as by a historiographical sketch of the (...)
