Como continuación de su artículo "My Vichian Journey: A Chronology", el autor ofrece ahora una introducción a la ciencia por él concebida: la "Dendrognoseología". Esta ciencia, cuyo principal referente es la "Ciencia Nueva" de Vico, prosigue la inmemorial preocupación humana y erudita por la unidad del conocimiento. No se trata, sin embargo, de otra concepción especulativa, sino de una ciencia; siendo ¿merced a su batería de principios única y constante¿ una estructura histórico-taxonómica independiente de toda visión del mundo, la "Dendrognoseología" (...) aparece como un prototipo válido a lo largo de toda circunstancia y tiempo que acompaña y unifica todo conocimiento en un árbol. Esta ciencia, cuyo gozne es el concepto de simbolismo (en el árbol de 1959) o el de imaginación (en el árbol viquianizado de 1989), dos elementales conceptos que son los respectivos puntos de partida de la filosofía de Cassirer y de Vico, puede ayudar a la perfección de un número indefinido de tareas tanto intelectuales como para-intelectuales. The globalization in business and tourism becomes crucial more and more for the economical sustainability of local communities. In the presence of an epidemic outbreak, there must be such a decision on the policy by the host community as whether to accept visitors or not, the number of acceptable visitors, or the condition for acceptable visitors. Making use of an SIRI type of mathematical model, we consider the influence of visitors on the spread of a reinfectious disease in a community, (...) especially assuming that a certain proportion of accepted visitors are immune. The reinfectivity of disease here means that the immunity gained by either vaccination or recovery is imperfect. With the mathematical results obtained by our analysis on the model for such an epidemic dynamics of resident and visitor populations, we find that the acceptance of visitors could have a significant influence on the disease’s endemicity in the community, either suppressive or supportive. Plato presents us with two versions of the "third man" argument in the "parmenides": they occur in a tightly-knit passage of reasoning containing four arguments against the theory of forms (130e-133a). The orthodox interpretation is that both versions are attempts to show that certain basic tenets of the theory, including a one-over-many principle, form an inconsistent set. The author argues that this interpretation cannot be correct, since it renders incoherent the train of thought in the wider passage and is unable (...) to explain the occurrence of certain perceptual expressions within the first version of the "third man" argument. This highly readable translation of the major works of the 18th- century philosopher Etienne Bonnot, Abbe de Condillac, a disciple of Locke and a contemporary of Rousseau, Voltaire, and Diderot, shows his influence on psychiatric diagnosis as well as on the education of the deaf, the retarded, and the preschool child. Published two hundred years after Condillac's death, this translation contains treatises which were, until now, virtually unavailable in English: A Treatise on Systems, A Treatise of the Sensations, Logic.

In the framework of classical electromagnetism, a charge however accelerated with respect to an inertial frame radiates energy, in any circumstance. Regarding the energy as made of photons, the hypothesis is here introduced that the emission of a photon is only possible as a result of a change of the energy of the charge, which requires an energy-work exchange with the accelerating field. On such an hypothesis an elementary impulsive-dissipative model for the photon emission is constructed, in the framework of (...) special relativity, in which no energy radiation is emitted from a charge in a central Coulomb field uniformly describing a circular orbit. A new non-traditional quasi-classical description of the particle dynamics (QCDPD) is outlined. The “quasi-classical” attribute is suggested by the closeness—although not identity—to the description of a classical system, in the framework of classical dynamics. Founded on a suitable one-to-one mapping of the timelike 4-vectors of Minkowski's spacetime onto the real 4-dimension vector space, QCDPD is mathematically equivalent to the traditional description of special relativity. However, in QCDPD a new frequency fulfilling the same transformation law as the frequency of an oscillator (...) is employed. It turns out that the special-relativity particle is, in fact, modeled as an oscillator which is essentially classical. The associated wave is a natural consequence of such a model. (shrink)
