18. yüzyılın başlarında vefat ettiği düşünülen Şevkizâde Süleyman Efendi, tütün kullanımının yaygınlaştığı ve şiddetli yasaklamalar sonrası yasakların gevşediği bir dönemde yaşamış bir Osmanlı âlimidir. Bu dönem, Şeyhülislam Bahâî Mehmed Efendi’nin tütünün mubahlığına dair verdiği fetvası ve devletin tütünü resmen vergilendirmesi sonrasına tekabül eder. Söz konusu dönemde tütün kullanmanın hükmüyle ilgili tartışmalar yoğun bir şekilde devam etmekte olup, lehte ve aleyhte pek çok risâle kaleme alınmıştır. Konuyla ilgili risale kaleme alan müelliflerden biri olan Şevkizâde risalesinde, tütün kullanımı ile ilgili tartışmalarda uygun (...) olmayan deliller ve hakarete varan sert bir üslup kullanıldığı, tütün içilmesine engel olmak ve fitneyi önlemek üzere bu eserlerde konuyla ilgili nass bulunmadığı ve kıyasla hüküm istihraç etmenin ihmal edildiği gibi pek çok asılsız iddialarda bulunulduğunu belirtir. Söz konusu tartışmaların ise insanları kafa karışıklığı içinde bıraktığını, bu nedenle Kitap, sünnet ve müçtehitlerin görüşleri ışığında mesele ile ilgili doğruları ortaya koymak üzere kısa bir risale telif ettiğini belirtir. Tütünle ilgili genellemeci bir hükümden kaçınan Şevkizâde risalesinde; tütün kullananların mescide gelmekten menedilmesi, tütünün habâisten olup olmadığı, devlet başkanının tütün hakkındaki emrinin hükmü ve bağlayıcılığı, tütün kullanmanın haramlığını ve mubahlığını savunanların bazı iddialarının değerlendirilmesi ve tütün içmenin oruca etkisi gibi meselere ayrı ayrı temas eder. There are limitations of obstetric estimation of neonatal outcome in extremely premature newborns. Predicting outcomes, survival, and morbidity are often uncertain, such as in cases of extreme prematurity, certain fetal anomalies, intrauterine growth restriction, and intrauterine infection. Informed consent, truth telling, the maternal–fetal conflict, decision making, and the fetus as a patient are the most important issues of obstetric and neonatal ethics. Because the boundary between utility and futility is not clear, the best interest of the mother, the fetus, and (...) the newborn will be subject of discussion every time. Deflationism, one of the influential philosophical doctrines of truth, holds that there is no property of truth, and that overt uses of the predicate "true" are redundant. However, the hypothetical examples used by theorists to exemplify deflationism are isolated sentences, offering little to examine what the predicate adds to meaning within context. We oppose the theory not on philosophical but on empirical grounds. We collect 7,610 occurrences of "it is true that" from 10 influential periodicals published in the United States. (...) We classify and annotate these with respect to the positions of coordinating and subordinating conjunctions that they contain. This way we investigate the contextual relationships between the proposition following "it is true that" with its surroundings. Overall, 34 different syntactical patterns are encountered. In some occurrences of "true", the predicate acts in the same manner as a performative verb does. These occurrences, having been observed in linguistically reliable media, constitute pragmatic counter-examples to deflationism. (shrink)

L’objectif, éminemment politique, de cet ouvrage est de proposer pour 2012 une alternative aux programmes court-termistes et consensuels qui pourraient être développés par les candidats lors de la campagne officielle pour les élections présidentielles. Il vise à offrir une perspective de long terme de ce à quoi la société pourrait ressembler d’ici trente à cinquante ans si nous prenons un véritable virage écologique et humain et si nous opérons un changement concret de paradigme. Si, ces dernières années, un grand nombre (...) d’ouvrages et de films ont dénoncé les pires crises que traverse l’humanité, si d’autres se sont évertués à mettre en lumière des alternatives, force est de constater que très peu se sont attelés à la tâche d’offrir une vision articulée, écologique et positive de l’avenir. Loin des “yaka-fokon” et des déclarations d’intention pleines de bonne volonté, cet ouvrage met en lumière des solutions qui ont fait leur preuve, à petite comme à grande échelle, dans la plupart des domaines de la société. Pour chaque thématique, une personnalité “experte”, ayant développé une vision du sujet - voire souvent conduit ou observé une expérimentation -, propose en quelques pages des voies de transition concrètes, ainsi que les moyens à disposition de tous, qu’ils soient citoyens, élus ou entrepreneurs, pour les mettre en action. Chacune de ces propositions s’appuie sur un “cas pratique” : un exemple concluant mené à l’échelle d’un territoire européen (canton, département, région...). In the history of Sanskrit literary theory Bhaṭṭanāyaka occupies an influential yet mysterious position. Abhinavagupta clearly owes a great debt to him, but since Bhaṭṭanāyaka’s works themselves have been lost, it has proven difficult to understand exactly what that debt is. The common understanding is that Bhaṭṭanāyaka was a Mīmāṃsaka and that he applied the principles of Vedic hermeneutics to literature. But this actually doesn’t fit well with much of what Abhinavagupta tells us about Bhaṭṭanāyaka, and upon closer inspection it (...) becomes clear that in fact Abhinavagupta presents him as someone who was thoroughly interested in ideas drawn from non-dual Vedānta. This article reexamines the depictions of Bhaṭṭanāyaka in Abhinavagupta’s works and shows that while the evidence for a Mīmāṃsā connection is quite thin, the evidence for a similar connection to Vedānta is quite strong. Taking this connection seriously helps us develop a much clearer picture of Bhaṭṭanāyaka’s ideas, and it also helps us understand various details of Abhinavagupta’s response to Bhaṭṭanāyaka that would otherwise remain obscure.
