  5. An extended TOPSIS for multi-attribute decision making problems with neutrosophic cubic information.Surapati Pramanik, Partha Pratim Dey, Bibhas C. Giri & Florentin Smarandache - 2017 - Neutrosophic Sets and Systems 17:20-28.
The paper proposes a new technique for dealing with multi-attribute decision making problems through an extended TOPSIS method under neutrosophic cubic environment. Neutrosophic cubic set is the generalized form of cubic set and is the hybridization of a neutrosophic set with an interval neutrosophic set. In this study, we have defined some operation rules for neutrosophic cubic sets and proposed the Euclidean distance between neutrosophic cubic sets. In the decision making situation, the rating of alternatives with respect to some (...)

“The Group Knobe Effect”: evidence that people intuitively attribute agency and responsibility to groups.John Andrew Michael & András Szigeti - 2018 - Philosophical Explorations 22 (1):44-61.
In the current paper, we present and discuss a series of experiments in which we investigated people’s willingness to ascribe intentions, as well as blame and praise, to groups. The experiments draw upon the so-called “Knobe Effect”. Knobe [2003. “Intentional action and side effects in ordinary language.” Analysis 63: 190–194] found that the positiveness or negativeness of side-effects of actions influences people’s assessment of whether those side-effects were brought about intentionally, and also that people are more willing to assign blame (...)

Bipolar neutrosophic sets are the extension of neutrosophic sets and are based on the idea of positive and negative preferences of information. Projection measure is a useful apparatus for modelling real life decision making problems. In the paper, we define projection, bidirectional projection and hybrid projection measures between bipolar neutrosophic sets. Three new methods based on the proposed projection measures are developed for solving multi-attribute decision making problems. In the solution process, the ratings of performance values of the alternatives (...)

On the Elements of Ontology: Attribute Instances and Structure.D. W. Mertz - 2016 - Boston: De Gruyter.
Central to Elements is an assay of the attributional union properties and relations have with their subjects, a topic historically left metaphorical. The work critiques eight Aristotelian assumptions concerning attribute dependence and ‘inherence’, per se subjects, attributes as agent-organizers, and unity-by-a-shared-one. Groups of these assumptions are seen to yield contradiction, vicious regress, or other problems. This analysis, joined with insights from an assay of ubiquitous structure, motivate ten theses explicating attribution and its primary ontic status. The theses detail: attributes (...)

Hardworking as a Heuristic for Moral Character: Why We Attribute Moral Values to Those Who Work Hard and Its Implications.Clinton Amos, Lixuan Zhang & David Read - 2019 - Journal of Business Ethics 158 (4):1047-1062.
The Protestant Work Ethic is a powerful force in Western culture with far reaching effects on our values and judgments. While research on PWE as a cultural value is abundant in diverse disciplines, little research has explored how this cultural value facilitates the use of heuristics when evaluating the morality of others. Using both PWE and illusory correlation as foundations, this paper explores whether people attribute positive moral characteristics to others merely based upon a description as hardworking. Three experiments (...)

A modal perspective on the computational complexity of attribute value grammar.Patrick Blackburn & Edith Spaan - 1993 - Journal of Logic, Language and Information 2 (2):129-169.
Many of the formalisms used in Attribute Value grammar are notational variants of languages of propositional modal logic, and testing whether two Attribute Value Structures unify amounts to testing for modal satisfiability. In this paper we put this observation to work. We study the complexity of the satisfiability problem for nine modal languages which mirror different aspects of AVS description formalisms, including the ability to express re-entrancy, the ability to express generalisations, and the ability to express recursive constraints. (...)

This study aims to identify various meanings of the expression (name) “dignity”, with particular emphasis on the meanings of this expression as it appears in the text of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland. The meaning of the name “dignity” is the concept of dignity; in turn, the different concepts of dignity encompass dignity of particular types. Twelve different meanings of the expression “dignity” are indicated – twelve different concepts of dignity, and thus twelve types of dignity. Half of (...)

Community Detection Based on Density Peak Clustering Model and Multiple Attribute Decision-Making Strategy TOPSIS.Jianjun Cheng, Xu Wang, Wenshuang Gong, Jun Li, Nuo Chen & Xiaoyun Chen - 2021 - Complexity 2021:1-18.
Community detection is one of the key research directions in complex network studies. We propose a community detection algorithm based on a density peak clustering model and multiple attribute decision-making strategy, TOPSIS. First, the two-dimensional dataset, which is transformed from the network by taking the density and distance as the attributes of nodes, is clustered by using the DBSCAN algorithm, and outliers are determined and taken as the key nodes. Then, the initial community frameworks are formed and expanded by (...)

Finding Missing Links in Complex Networks: A Multiple-Attribute Decision-Making Method.Longjie Li, Shenshen Bai, Mingwei Leng, Lu Wang & Xiaoyun Chen - 2018 - Complexity 2018:1-16.
Link prediction, which aims to forecast potential or missing links in a complex network based on currently observed information, has drawn growing attention from researchers. To date, a host of similarity-based methods have been put forward. Usually, one method harbors the idea that one similarity measure is applicable to various networks, and thus has performance fluctuation on different networks. In this paper, we propose a novel method to solve this issue by regarding link prediction as a multiple-attribute decision-making problem. (...)

    On Predicating a Diagnosis as an Attribute of a Person.Douglas W. Maynard - 2004 - Discourse Studies 6 (1):53-76.
This article explores the relation between ‘citing the evidence’, or implicating a particular diagnosis, and ‘asserting the condition’, or overtly predicating the diagnosis as an attribute of a person. Clinicians regularly postpone or delay asserting the condition, which is interactionally more confrontational and presumptive. They regularly do the postponement by citing the evidence prior to asserting the condition, using the evidence as kind of predecessor account for predicating the diagnosis as an attribute of the person. Citing the evidence (...)

Entity alignment via summary and attribute embeddings.Rumana Ferdous Munne & Ryutaro Ichise - 2023 - Logic Journal of the IGPL 31 (2):314-324.
Entity alignment is the task of integrating heterogeneous knowledge among different knowledge graphs (KGs). KG is a popular way of storing facts about real-world entities. Unfortunately, a very limited number of the entities stored in different KGs are aligned. This paper presents an embedding-based entity alignment method that finds entity alignment by measuring the similarities between entity embeddings. Existing methods mainly focus on the relational structures and attributes information for the alignment process. Such methods fail while the entities have a (...)

Exploring Personal Values and Job Attribute Salience Among Job Seekers.Yohann Mauger, David M. Wasieleski & Sefa Hayibor - 2019 - Proceedings of the International Association for Business and Society 30:50-58.
The person-organization fit (P-O fit) literature suggests that job seekers are attracted to organizations that match their personal values; but, to date, little is known about how individuals’ personal values might affect their preferences for particular job attributes when seeking a job. In this paper, using data from 351 job seekers at several employment agencies in Haute-Normandie, France, we examine possible connections between certain personal values and job attribute preferences among job seekers.

In a single-iteration fake barn case, the agent correctly identifies an object of interest on the first try, despite the presence of nearby lookalikes that could have mislead her. In a multiple-iteration fake barn case, the agent first encounters several fakes, misidentifies each of them, and then encounters and correctly identifies a genuine item of interest. Prior work has established that people tend to attribute knowledge in single-iteration fake barn cases, but multiple-iteration cases have not been tested. However, some (...)

First I lay down the data a semantic theory for K-claims needs to explain. Next I present and assess three views purporting to give the semantics for K-claims: contextualism, subject-sensitive invariantism and relativism. All three views are found wanting with respect to their accounting for the data. I then propose a hybrid (...)

A common objection to particular views of attributability is that they fail to account for weakness of will. In this paper, I show that the problem of weakness of will is much deeper than has been recognized, extending to all views of attributability on offer because of the general form that these views take. The fundamental problem is this: current views claim that being attributionally responsible is a matter of exercising whatever capacity that they take to be relevant to attributability; (...)
