    Affirmative biopolitics and human nature in Franco basaglia’s thought.Alvise Sforza Tarabochia - 2011 - Angelaki 16 (3):85-99.
In this article, I contend that Franco Basaglia’s work of reform in psychiatry can be read as a proposal for an affirmative biopolitical psychiatry. My claim is that Basaglia’s reform is to be regarded not only as a successful dismantling of the old disciplinary psychiatry but also as an ante litteram attempt at preventing what Pierangelo Di Vittorio refers to as a “biopolitical psychiatry.” Di Vittorio’s definition is notably limited, for he seems to overlook Foucault’s conceptual oscillations between affirmative biopolitics (...)

Body –to-head transplant; a "caputal" crime? Examining the corpus of ethical and legal issues.Zaev D. Suskin & James J. Giordano - 2018 - Philosophy, Ethics, and Humanities in Medicine 13 (1):10.
Neurosurgeon Sergio Canavero proposed the HEAVEN procedure – i.e. head anastomosis venture – several years ago, and has recently received approval from the relevant regulatory bodies to perform this body-head transplant in China. The BHT procedure involves attaching the donor body to the head of the recipient, and discarding the body of R and head of D. Canavero’s proposed procedure will be incredibly difficult from a medical standpoint. Aside from medical doubt, the BHT has been met with great (...)

Altered Mortality: Why the Quest for Immortality is Regaining Visibility in the Media.Mirko Daniel Garasic - 2019 - NanoEthics 13 (3):255-259.
Media carry the message of the scientific community into the wider world, though sometimes it would be more appropriate to say: of a certain scientific group. For the field of bioethics, this is particularly true. From films such as Gattaca to TV series like Black Mirror, the relationship between science and science fiction appears evidently bidirectional. This relationship is not new of course, but this paper discusses quasi-science-fictional experiments such as that of Sergio Canavero and the recent TV series (...)

    Impassable scientific, ethical and legal barriers to body‐to‐head transplantation.Ruipeng Lei & Renzong Qiu - 2019 - Bioethics 34 (2):172-182.
This article consists of four parts. In the first part it briefly describes the history of body‐to‐head transplantation (BHT) and the surgical plan proposed by Drs. Sergio Canavero and Ren Xiaoping on a human subject. In the second part it argues that the BHT procedure that they propose is scientifically invalid and technically infeasible so therefore would end in failure. In the third part it argues that the present conceivable procedure of BHT cannot be ethically justified because it would (...)

Is There a Place for Humility in HEAVEN?Anto Čartolovni - 2017 - American Journal of Bioethics Neuroscience 8 (4):234-236.
The primary intention of Ren and Canavero's article (2017) is to respond to various criticisms raised by their proposal of the head anastomosis venture (HEAVEN) procedure. Before we launch a deeper analysis of Ren and Canavero's article, I would like to draw attention to a sentence, “Unfortunately, humility is not a part of medical lore,” where they refer to the arrogance and unsuccessfulness of medical science to recognize the importance and breakthrough of the HEAVEN procedure. Interestingly, with this (...)
