While the sociality of software agents drives toward the definition of institutions for multi agent systems, their autonomy requires that such institutions are ruled by appropriate norm mechanisms. Computational institutions represent useful abstractions. In this paper we show how computational institutions can be built on top of the RoleX infrastructure, a role-based system with interesting features for our aim. We achieve a twofold goal: on the one hand, we give concreteness to the institution abstractions; on the other hand, we demonstrate (...) the flexibility of the RoleX infrastructure. (shrink)

En este trabajo analizaremos algunos aspectos involucrados en el concepto de demostración matemática. Comenzaremos con la descripción de Enderton, sobre los requisitos que una demostración debe cumplir, estas son convicción final, finitud y verificabilidad algorítmica, para luego analizar las objeciones que Chateaubriand hace al respecto, y señalar algunas discrepancias con sus planteos. Estas discrepancias no pretenden apoyar la perspectiva de Enderton. En una segunda instancia, procuraremos observar algunas dificultades que surgen, cuando queremos determinar lo que es una demostración. Si bien (...) el concepto de demostración puede ser analizado desde diversas perspectivas, teniendo en cuenta sus múltiples dimensiones, por ejemplo su dimensión retórica, ontológica, me concentrare fundamentalmente en su aspecto epistémico.In this paper I analyze some aspects involved in the concept of mathematical proof. I begin with Enderton’s description of the requirements that a proof must fulfill, namely, a final conviction, finitude and algorithmic verifiability, and then analyze the objections that Chateaubriand raises on this topic, and indicate some discrepancies in his exposition. These discrepancies are not meant as an argument for Enderton’s perspective. Although the concept of proof can be analyzed from different perspectives, i.e., taking into account its several different dimensions, for example its rhetorical, ontological dimension, I will concentrate fundamentally on its epistemic dimension. Literature has been dealing with modern work and its psychological and social consequences through two kinds of narrations: verismo/realism and symbolism. Jack London wrote incredibly penetrating pages from a psychological viewpoint with a veristic prose; Kafka widened the reflection with his symbolism and, particularly, through dreamlike parables. Kafka was not a passive and absent-minded employee. Recent studies on his working documents have shown considerable passion and professional competence. This expertise was poured into his literary works about work and organizations with (...) a direct knowledge. Kafka's symbolist style has been very effective in changing the way to see organizations. The writer particularly realized the growth of the exceeding population in recent years and could grasp the workers' psychology and deeper aspects when they face their superfluity and expulsion from the world of work. More specifically, Kafka was able to analyze psychological surrender to superfluity, which is mainly expressed with a specific form of “mental emptiness,” already described by London. (shrink)

The relationship between the continuity equation and the HamiltonianH of a quantum system is investigated from a nonstandard point of view. In contrast to the usual approaches, the expression of the current densityJ ψ is givenab initio by means of a transport-velocity operatorV T, whose existence follows from a “weak” formulation of the correspondence principle. Once given a Hilbert-space metricM, it is shown that the equation of motion and the continuity equation actually represent a system in theunknown operatorsH andV T, (...) due to the arbitrariness on the initial condition of the quantum state. The general solution is given in some cases of special interest and a straightforward application to relativistic quantum mechanics is performed. (shrink)

The traditional approach to the covariance problem in quantum mechanics is inverted and the space-time transformations are assumed as the basicunknowns, according to the prescription that the correspondence principle and the commutation rules must becovariant. It is shown that the only solutions are either Galilean or Lorentzian (including the possibility of an imaginary light-velocity c2<0). The Dirac formalism for the wave-equation and the condition c2>0 are obtained simoultaneously as theunique solution, provided that the Hamiltonian is Hermitean (in the usual sense), (...) and the internal degrees of freedom allow for afinite-dimensional representation. David Eso and Kay Burns edition of philosopher Leo Ferraris previously unpublished 1973 manuscript brings to light a long forgotten satirical work, which, in an age of fake news, possesses renewed relevance. The editors contextualize The Earth is Flat! for the reader with a scholarly introduction and a humorous Forewarning. Author, Leo Ferrari, draws on his extensive knowledge of classical thought and its key figures to present a history of ideas that is sometimes accurate, sometimes speculative. Speculative or alternative aspects (...) of this history support his Flat Earth theme, as do a number of scientific experiments outlined, which the reader is encouraged to try. He traces the conflict between Globularist and Planoterrestrial beliefs from antiquity to his contemporary moment of the early 1970s, marked by space exploration. Later chapters chart the activities and philosophies of the Flat Earth Society of Canada, including Ferraris experience on the lecture circuit and in media platforms. The authors method is to blur the line between seriousness and humour and to show that intellectual work can also be good fun. He uses the idea of a spinning, spherical planet to symbolically represent the alienating effects of technological modernity. (shrink)
