Hebrew thought compared with Greek.Thorleif Boman - 1960 - Philadelphia,: Westminster Press.

  4. Norms in artificial decision making.Magnus Boman - 1999 - Artificial Intelligence and Law 7 (1):17-35.
A method for forcing norms onto individual agents in a multi-agent system is presented. The agents under study are supersoft agents: autonomous artificial agents programmed to represent and evaluate vague and imprecise information. Agents are further assumed to act in accordance with advice obtained from a normative decision module, with which they can communicate. Norms act as global constraints on the evaluations performed in the decision module and hence no action that violates a norm will be suggested to any agent. (...)

    Emerson's ‘Self‐Reliance’ and political self‐education.Léa Boman - 2022 - Journal of Philosophy of Education 56 (6):878-888.
This paper studies how Emerson's ‘Self-Reliance’ offers a meaningful account of political and moral self-education in Western democracies. Emerson's moral perfectionism involves an ethical, political and democratic individualism that needs to be reconsidered. This paper explores a perfectionist interpretation of the modern forms of self-education as political and ordinary practices, first with the case of conspiracy theories, which express an individual desire for self-education but appear as the result of a lack of self-reliance and a failure of political self-education, and (...)

The reasonable patient – A Swedish discursive construction.Åse Boman, Elisabeth Dahlborg, Henrik Eriksson & Ellinor Tengelin - 2021 - Nursing Inquiry 28 (3):e12401.
The aim of this study was to analyse how the patient is constructed and socially positioned in Swedish patient information. Corpus‐assisted critical discourse analysis methodology was utilised on a sample of 56 online patient information texts about cancer containing a total of 126,711 words. The findings show an overarching discourse of informed consent guided by specific features to produce a patient norm that we name “the reasonable patient”, who is receptive to arguments, emotionally restrained and makes decisions based on information. On the validity of remember–know judgments: Evidence from think aloud protocols.David P. McCabe, Lisa Geraci, Jeffrey K. Boman, Amanda E. Sensenig & Matthew G. Rhodes - 2011 - Consciousness and Cognition 20 (4):1625-1633.
The use of remember–know judgments to assess subjective experience associated with memory retrieval, or as measures of recollection and familiarity processes, has been controversial. In the current study we had participants think aloud during study and provide verbal reports at test for remember–know and confidence judgments. Results indicated that the vast majority of remember judgments for studied items were associated with recollection from study , but this correspondence was less likely for high-confidence judgments . Instead, high-confidence judgments were more likely (...)

“The Emperor's new clothes”: discourse analysis on how the patient is constructed in the new Swedish Patient Act.Elisabeth Dahlborg Lyckhage, Sandra Pennbrant & Åse Boman - 2017 - Nursing Inquiry 24 (2):e12162.
The Swedish welfare debate increasingly focuses on market liberal notions and its healthcare perspective aims for more patient‐centered care. This article examines the new Swedish Patient Act describing and analyzing how the patient is constructed in government documents. This study takes a Foucauldian discourse analysis approach following Willig's analysis guide. The act contains an entitlement discourse for patients and a requirement discourse for healthcare personnel. These two discourses are governed by a values‐based healthcare discourse. Neo‐liberal ideology, in the form of (...)

War, Piracy and Religion: Godfried Udemans' Spiritual Helm (1638).Joris van Eijnatten - 2007 - Grotiana 26 (1):192-214.
The Calvinist minister Godfried Udemans is generally considered to be one of the more important seventeenth-century theologians from the province of Zeeland. He specialized in writings for a broader public, including, in particular, publications on ethical and religious codes in trade and seafaring. Of his various writings on moral theology, 't Geestelyck roer van 't coopmans schip, first published in 1638, is the most important. The Spiritual helm appeared in print some thirty years after Grotius occupied himself with De jure (...)

Introduction to the Suite: Political education for human transformation.Naoko Saito & Sandra Laugier - 2022 - Journal of Philosophy of Education 56 (6):863-865.
This is a brief introduction to the second part of a suite of papers on the theme ‘Political Education for Human Transformation’. Sceptical of the familiar and somewhat narrow frameworks for citizenship education, this East-West collaboration looks again at the very idea, and the possible means, of education for democracy. It examines the principle of an equality of voices as crucial to mature democratic citizenship, expanding on this through the idea of the ‘education of one's experience’. This is a matter (...)

    Norbert Elias and Human Interdependencies.Thomas Salumets - 2001 - Mcgill-Queen's University Press.
While the opposing paradigms of globalization and fragmentation compete in often bloody and destructive ways in the world today, this book convincingly reminds us of the importance of finding out more about the complex and changing ways in which we are connected. The authors demonstrate that the more we understand our connectedness and deal with its consequences, the less dependent and helpless we become. The critical, multidisciplinary perspectives they offer cover a wide range of subjects, from the world wide web (...)
