© 2016 Regents of the University of California. The Review summarizes much of particle physics and cosmology. Using data from previous editions, plus 3,062 new measurements from 721 papers, we list, evaluate, and average measured properties of gauge bosons and the recently discovered Higgs boson, leptons, quarks, mesons, and baryons. We summarize searches for hypothetical particles such as supersymmetric particles, heavy bosons, axions, dark photons, etc. All the particle properties and search limits are listed in Summary Tables. We also give numerous (...)

    Is humpty dumpty vindicated?Gershon Weiler - 1960 - Inquiry: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Philosophy 3 (1-4):278 – 281.
Can Humpty Dumpty be seriously taken as expounding and exemplifying a possible attitude to language? Mr. Tennessen has taken the view that this is so. It is argued here that (a) his view bears close resemblance to some recent criticisms of Wittgenstein's theory of language-games, (b) that while Tennessen's descriptive statements about the expansion of language are mostly correct, (c) his constituting this as a vindication of the Humpty Dumpty attitude is wrong. One of Tennessen's examples is analysed and his (...)

Natural theology: Wit, the electric shock, the aesthetic idea—and a belated acknowledgment of points made by the late MR Gershon Weiler.Patrick Hutchings - 2003 - Sophia 42 (1):9-26.
The paper concludes the argument that certain aesthetic objects conduce to a feeling of radical contingency, and to an openness to St Thomas's Third Way proof for the existence of God. Much is conceded to the late Mr Gershon Weiler's criticism of an earlier discussion. The upshot is (a) that Necessary Being as converse of radical contingency may be an Aesthetic Idea/Sublime of Kant's kind, and (b) that without the ‘I AM that I am’, it is empty. The ‘inference’ (...)

The shadow self in film: projecting the unconscious other.Gershon Reiter - 2014 - Jefferson, North Carolina: McFarland & Company, Inc., Publishers.
The cinematic Other is interpreted as an unconscious personality, a denied part of the protagonist that appears in his life as a shadowy menace who won't go away. Overall the book aims to show how movies envision the unconscious Other we all too often project on other people.

Hidden Dimensions: The Unification of Physics and Consciousness.B. Alan Wallace - 2007 - Columbia University Press.
Bridging the gap between the world of science and the realm of the spiritual, B. Alan Wallace introduces a natural theory of human consciousness that has its roots in contemporary physics and Buddhism. Wallace's "special theory of ontological relativity" suggests that mental phenomena are _conditioned_ by the brain, but do not _emerge_ from it. Rather, the entire natural world of mind and matter, subjects and objects, arises from a unitary dimension of reality that is more fundamental than these dualities, as (...)

Mauthner’s Critique of Language.Gershon Weiler - 1970 - Cambridge [Eng.]: Cambridge University Press.
A critical examination of the philosophical theories of Fritz Mauthner. Mauthner was a prolific writer with diverse intellectual interests, but he was preoccupied with developing a comprehensive philosophy or 'critique' of language which would help resolve a whole range of persistent and controversial philosophical problems. In pursuit of this aim Mauthner pioneered a view of language which has had a very wide circulation in the twentieth century - namely that the analysis and understanding of language, particularly ordinary language, is the (...)

From Mausoleum to Living Room. Practicing Metabolic Carpentry in the Museum.Martin Grünfeld, Adam Bencard & Louise Whiteley - 2023 - Centaurus 65 (2):387-416.
Museums might seem to be the enemy of metabolism: mausoleums that preserve collections and their knowledge-producing potential, out of time. We argue that museums are in fact intensely metabolic: in their attempts to manipulate the life course and temporalities of objects they proliferate metabolic processes, limits, and potentials. We suggest that looking at the museum in this way can help articulate pressing practical as well as theoretical issues: storage rooms are “constipated,” as traditional practices of disposal cannot keep pace with (...)

    Collections, Knowledge, and Time.Martin Grünfeld & Karin Tybjerg - 2023 - Centaurus 65 (2):213-234.
In recent decades, an increasing interest in the dynamics of collections has brought to view how objects circulate as parts of networks of knowledge and how collections can acquire new meanings. Introducing this special issue on Collections, Knowledge, and Time, we want to shift focus from geographical circulation towards the temporal dynamics of collections: the layering and interweaving of asynchronous temporalities as collections are preserved, frozen, reinterpreted, sampled, and destroyed over time, and how these temporalities constitute knowledge potentials. We treat (...)

    Beliefs and Attributes.Gershon Weiler - 1961 - Philosophy 36 (137):196 - 210.
In a philosophical paper the point one wishes to make should be stated at the very outset. And in dealing with a problem which is as controversial as religion, the bias should be confessed before any points are made. I want to conform at once to both these requirements. I want to discuss beliefs, ordinary beliefs but mainly religious ones, for the expression of which, oddly enough, we use the same word. “Belief” and “Faith” are admittedly different in English, but (...)

    Hobbes and Performatives.Gershon Weiler - 1970 - Philosophy 45 (173):210 - 220.
Professor J. W. N. Watkins argues in his Hobbes' System of Ideas that Hobbes' theory of moral predicates must be interpreted in terms of Austinian performatives. In this paper I shall argue two points. First, that Watkins' thesis is false. Second, that Hobbes' own doctrine, which asserts that things are made good or just by being declared to be so by the sovereign, is inconsistent. Watkins begins with brief exposition of Hobbes' theory of moral language as stated in the Leviathan (...)

Quality health care relies upon communication in a patient's preferred language. Language access in health care occurs when individuals are: Welcomed by providers regardless of language ability; and Offered quality language services as part of their care. Federal law generally requires access to health care and quality language services for deaf and Limited English Proficient patients in health care settings, but these patients still find it hard to access health care and quality language services.Meanwhile, several states are implementing Medicaid Accountable (...)

The availability of these sources fills a gap in the field and stimulates new directions for teaching and scholarly research in modern Jewish thought.
