Éthique et esthétique étant intimement liées dans les arts chinois, la question de l’authenticité se présente comme une préoccupation centrale, dans la théorie comme dans la pratique, par le passé comme de nos jours. L’aporie dans l’art chinois, notamment en peinture, ne porte pas sur une opposition entre imitation et illusion, comme dans la peinture européenne, mais entre « ressemblance formelle » et « ressemblance spirituelle ». C’est pourquoi l’aspect matériel de l’œuvre, même s’il est pris en compte, apparaît moins (...) fondamental que les valeurs que celle-ci véhicule ou qu’elle est censée véhiculer. The Shuduan《書斷》 by Zhang Huaiguan of the Tang dynasty comprises classifications of calligraphy that Chinese theoreticians still refer to. This article aims at considering the functioning and efficacy of such evaluations through a study comparing this work to other treatises and, when relevant, to the European tradition. Its main objective is to examine how Chinese aesthetic theory responded to new evaluative needs that appeared during this crucial period in Chinese history. Adequality, or παρισóτης (parisotēs) in the original Greek of Diophantus 1 , is a crucial step in Fermat’s method of finding maxima, minima, tangents, and solving other problems that a modern mathematician would solve using infinitesimal calculus. The method is presented in a series of short articles in Fermat’s collected works (1891, pp. 133–172).
