Quality of life and proactive coping with stress in a group of middle adulthood women with type 2 diabetes.Dorota Kalka - 2016 - Polish Psychological Bulletin 47 (3):327-337.
In middle adulthood the intensity of stress is significantly higher than in the preceding developmental period. This stress is particularly significant in the case of chronically ill women, including those with type 2 diabetes. In this group, the disease-related stress intensifies the difficulties generated by the decrease of age-related organismic resources and in many instances impairs the quality of life. Therefore, an ability to cope with difficult situations is of crucial importance. The aim of the research was to (...)

The technological advances in medicine, including prolongation of life, have constituted several dilemmas at the end of life. In the context of the Belgian debates on end-of-life care, the views of Muslim women remain understudied. The aim of this article is fourfold. First, we seek to describe the beliefs and attitudes of middle-aged and elderly Moroccan Muslim women toward withholding and withdrawing life-sustaining treatments. Second, we aim to identify whether differences are observable among middle-aged (...)

Women's Work-Life Balance in Hospitality: Examining Its Impact on Organizational Commitment.Ting Liu, Jie Gao, Mingfang Zhu & Shenglang Jin - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
Women account for a large proportion of the hotel industry. Work-life conflict has become one of the main obstacles to the organizational commitment of women. Thus, this study investigates the relationship for women between work-life balance, as an independent variable, and organizational commitment, as a dependent variable. Specifically, we examine women's work-life balance in the hospitality industry and compare women's organizational commitment under different levels of work-life balance. Then, we assess whether (...)

Moral education for women in the pastoral and Pythagorean letters: philosophers of the household.Annette Bourland Huizenga - 2013 - Boston: Brill.
"Huizenga examines the Greco-Roman moral-philosophical 'curriculum' for women by comparing these two epistolary collections. The analysis is organized around four elements: textual resources, teachers and learners, instructional strategies, and subject matter. Huizenga shows that the author of the Pastorals has adopted nearly all of the 'pagan' aspects of this curriculum, but has supplemented these with theological justifications drawn from Pauline literature and traditions"--Publisher description.

Thoughts on the Education of Daughters: With Reflections on Female Conduct, in the More Important Duties of Life.Mary Wollstonecraft - 2014 - Cambridge University Press.
Paving the way for modern feminist thinking, Mary Wollstonecraft dared to challenge traditional eighteenth-century attitudes towards women. First published in 1787, this book discusses how girls can best be educated to become valuable wives and mothers. It argues that women can offer the most effective contribution to society if they are brought up to display sound morals, character and intellect, rather than superficial social graces. Wollstonecraft later developed her ideas in A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, in (...)

Women don't owe you pretty.Florence Given - 2020 - Kansas City, MO ;: Andrews McMeel Publishing.
Feminism is going to ruin your life--in the best way possible--because society screams numerous messages every moment about how women must look, act, and speak in order to earn their right to be seen and heard. The only thing any human needs to do in order to earn their right to exist, however, is to exist. Break free of the insidious narratives that hold you back from being your most authentic self.

In this work, we study how a prenatal diagnosis of malformation may affect maternal representations and the quality of these early interactions. To this end, we conducted a longitudinal observational study of mother–child interactions from the gestational stage until the baby completed 12 months of age.Participants and MethodsWe recruited 250 pregnant women from a local university hospital. A major programme of irrigated rice extension in the Middle Senegal River Valley has further limited the river’s natural flooding in the floodplain (Waalo), initially reduced by drought. We conducted a transdisciplinary (TD) and gendered study in the region to explore links between agricultural biodiversity and family diets using a social analysis of women’s practices. The results showed how rice expansion impacts local agrobiodiversity, diet quality and the cultural way of life. Disappearance of the singular agropastoral and fishing (...)

Absence of other and disruption of self: an interpretative phenomenological analysis of the meaning of loneliness in the context of life in a religious community.Valeria Motta & Michael Larkin - 2022 - Phenomenology and the Cognitive Sciences 22 (1):55-80.
Interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) is an idiographic approach to qualitative research. It is widely used in psychologically-informed studies which aim to understand the meaning and context of specific experiences. In this paper, we provide some background and introduction to the principles and processes underpinning IPA research. We extend this via a practical example, reporting on selected analyses from a study which explores the phenomenology and meaning of loneliness, through interviews conducted with a group of religious women. Through our observations (...)

Marital Life: A Challenge for Pursuing Higher Education by Women in Pakistan.Malik Munir, Bakhtawar Munir & Sana Bhutto - 2022 - Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities 61 (2):71-89.
_Misapprehensions of culture and religion are used for the early marriages of women in Pakistan, which generates few significant challenges for women to pursue their higher education. The present study identifies such challenges for married women in higher education. These challenges are relevant to women’s post-marriage lifespan in rural Pakistan. Building upon Fredrickson’s (2001) and Hobfoll’s (2001) theories focused on post marriages issues, the study has developed open-ended questions for collecting in-depth information. Therefore, 43 in-depth interviews (...)

Analyzing of the Changing Lifestyles of Conservative Headscarved Women in Context of Leisure Time.Zülal Asanatuci̇ - 2023 - van İlahiyat Dergisi 11 (18):27-39.
Social changes in Turkey, especially with the 1980s, brought along an irreversible differentiation in the lives of individuals. One of the most striking of these differentiations has emerged in the lives of individuals who generally take care to live according to the religious rules. In this sense, the changing social structure has caused the religious segment, which is described as conservative in Turkish society, to develop a new lifestyle that can be interpreted within the framework of the coexistence of religiosity (...)

The lived experience of severe maternal morbidity among Black women.Lucinda Canty - 2022 - Nursing Inquiry 29 (1).
Black women are 3–4 times more likely to die from a pregnancy‐related complication and twice as likely to experience severe maternal morbidity when compared to white women in the United States. The risks for pregnancy‐related maternal mortality are well documented, yet Black women's experiences of life‐threatening morbidity are essentially absent in the nursing literature. The purpose of this interpretive phenomenological study was to understand the experiences of Black women who developed severe maternal morbidity. Face‐to‐face, one‐to‐one, (...)

The evolution of puritanical morality has not always served to strengthen cooperation, but to reinforce male dominance and exclude women.Konrad Szocik - 2023 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 46:e316.
Puritanical morality regulates a range of seemingly insignificant behaviors, including those involving human sexuality. A sizable portion of the latter particularly burdens women, who are held responsible for the moral conduct of men. In my paper, I show that these norms have not necessarily served to evolve cooperation, but to subjugate and eliminate women from public life.

Although originally developed as a prevention for gastric ulcers, in the 1980s, it developed an off-label reputation as an abortifacient. The drug’s association with clandestine abortion has profoundly shaped its social life as a marginal and suspect character in the realm of global maternal and reproductive health where it has the potential to prevent two major causes of maternal death––postpartum hemorrhage and unsafe abortion.
