Ethical Leaders and Their Followers: The Transmission of Moral Identity and Moral Attentiveness.Weichun Zhu, Linda K. Treviño & Xiaoming Zheng - 2016 - Business Ethics Quarterly 26 (1):95-115.
ABSTRACT:In the expanding field of ethical leadership research, little attention has been paid to the association between ethical leaders’ ethical characteristics and perceived ethical leadership, and, more importantly, the potential influence of ethical leadership on followers’ ethical characteristics. In this study, we tested a theoretical model based upon social cognitive theory to examine leaders’ moral identity and moral attentiveness as antecedents of perceived ethical leadership, and follower moral identity and moral attentiveness as outcomes of ethical leadership. Based upon data from (...)

Procedural Justice and Employee Engagement: Roles of Organizational Identification and Moral Identity Centrality.Hongwei He, Weichun Zhu & Xiaoming Zheng - 2014 - Journal of Business Ethics 122 (4):681-695.
Workplace procedural justice is an important motivator for employee work attitude and performance. This research examines how procedural justice affects employee engagement. We developed three propositions. First, based on the group engagement model, we hypothesized that procedural justice enhances employee engagement through employee organizational identification. Second, employees with stronger moral identity centrality are more likely to be engaged in their jobs. Third, procedural justice compensates for the effect of moral identity centrality on employee engagement. Specifically, when procedural justice is higher, (...)

Hang on to Your Ego: The Moderating Role of Leader Narcissism on Relationships Between Leader Charisma and Follower Psychological Empowerment and Moral Identity.John J. Sosik, Jae Uk Chun & Weichun Zhu - 2014 - Journal of Business Ethics 120 (1):65-80.
We develop and test a process model demonstrating how leader charisma and constructive and destructive forms of narcissism interact to influence follower psychological empowerment and moral identity, using survey data from 667 direct reports of leaders from 13 different industries. Study results revealed that leader narcissism moderates the relationship between leader charisma and follower psychological empowerment such that when leaders possess a more constructive and less destructive narcissistic personality, their charisma has a stronger positive relationship with follower psychological empowerment. Study (...)

Ethical Leadership with Both “Moral Person” and “Moral Manager” Aspects: Scale Development and Cross-Cultural Validation.Weichun Zhu, Xiaoming Zheng, Hongwei He, Gang Wang & Xi Zhang - 2019 - Journal of Business Ethics 158 (2):547-565.
The importance of ethical leadership in organizations has been increasingly recognized, especially as a shield against unethical employee behaviors and corporate misconducts. Ethical leadership has been theorized to include two aspects: “moral person” and “moral manager.” This conceptualization resonates well with Chinese teachings of Confucius on leadership and management—namely xiuji and anren. Based on the theoretical framework of ethical leadership, we develop and validate a new ethical leadership measure. Through qualitative studies and five quantitative studies, we establish the reliability and (...)

Corruption or professional dignity: An ethical examination of the phenomenon of “red envelopes” in medical practice in China.Wei Zhu, Lijie Wang & Chengshang Yang - 2018 - Developing World Bioethics 18 (1):37-44.
In the medical practice in China, giving and taking “red envelopes” is a common phenomenon although few openly admit it. This paper, based on our empirical study including data collected from interviews and questionnaires with medical professionals and patients, attempts to explore why “red envelopes” have become a serious problem in the physician-patient relationship and how the situation can be improved. Previous studies show that scholars tend to correlate the spread of “red envelopes” in health care sector to the commercialization (...)

  8. What Topic for off-topic in WK3?Massimiliano Carrara, Filippo Mancini & Wei Zhu - 2022 - In Pavel Materna & Bjørn Jespersen (eds.), Logically Speaking. A Festschrift for Marie Duží. College Publications. pp. 113-128.
Beall (2016) proposes to read the middle-value of Weak Kleene logic as off-topic. This interpretation has recently drawn some attention: for instance, Francez has pointed out that Beall's interpretation does not meet some important requirements to count as a truth value. Moreover, Beall is silent about what a topic (or a subject matter) is. But arguably, what is a topic? is a crucial question, and an answer is really important to fully understand his proposal. Thus, our goal here is to (...)
