How discordant morphological and molecular evolution among microorganisms can revise our notions of biodiversity on Earth.Daniel J. G. Lahr, Haywood Dail Laughinghouse, Angela M. Oliverio, Feng Gao & Laura A. Katz - 2014 - Bioessays 36 (10):950-959.
Microscopy has revealed tremendous diversity of bacterial and eukaryotic forms. Recent molecular analyses show discordance in estimates of biodiversity between morphological and molecular analyses. Moreover, phylogenetic analyses of the diversity of microbial forms reveal evidence of convergence at scales as deep as interdomain: morphologies shared between bacteria and eukaryotes. Here, we highlight examples of such discordance, focusing on exemplary lineages such as testate amoebae, ciliates, and cyanobacteria. These have long histories of morphological study, enabling deeper analyses on both the molecular (...)

    Cooking a corporation tax controversy: Apple, Ireland and the EU.Ciara Graham & Brendan K. O’Rourke - 2019 - Critical Discourse Studies 16 (3):298-311.
ABSTRACTGiven the centrality of corporations in distribution of income and wealth studies, discursive constructions of corporate taxation are essential to understanding the production of inequality. The focus of this study is an interview with Apple’s Chief Executive Tim Cook on the Irish state broadcaster, Raidió Teilifís Éireann’s flagship news programme, Morning Ireland, following the ruling by the European Commission on the corporation tax arrangements between Apple Inc. and Ireland. Drawing on a Critical Discourse Analysis approach, a frame analysis is (...)

La Conscience chrétienne et les Nationalismes. [REVIEW]Tomás À Fiaich - 1959 - Philosophical Studies (Dublin) 9:248-250.
Dr. McCracken’s book is partly historical and partly analytical. It opens with as good a summary of Irish history from the founding of the Gaelic League in 1893 until the general election of 1918 as one could wish for. The resounding victory won by Sinn Féin in 1918 prepared the way for the first and second Dáil, whose membership is here analysed from the standpoints of age, religion, education and occupation with some interesting results. As the later parliaments are (...)
